Timberline Lodge

The lodge is about four miles from the east boat ramp, right on Big Bear Blvd. It is a quiet, family atmosphere that is very pet friendly. The 2 bedroom with 2 queen size beds in each room that we stayed in was old, but clean. It had a small bathroom, kitchen and a balcony that the manager let us BBQ on. The living room area had two couches that have seen better days, but were actually comfortable. The manager has a large VHS and DVD library that he loans to guests for free. We stayed during "shark week" and that is all my kids wanted to watch. Luckily the lodge has free WiFi and I could sit on the balcony and watch movies and TV shows on HuLu.
Although it is far from being a 5 star lodge, the manager and staff could not have been more helpful or accommodating. He gave us 50% discount coupons for a local bicycle rental place that was also a great deal. I am sure there are better places to stay in Big Bear, but for the $57 per night we paid, plus the place sleeps 8 people - you can't beat it.

We really wish we would have read all the reviews prior to booking this hotel. We don't know where to begin... on the outside, the playground is rundown and has several unsafe areas. There is dog poop around the entire property that doesn't appear to be picked up ever. The inside of the cabin had floors that were neither vacuumed nor in any way clean. There was a "coating" of grime on the wooden floor in the kitchen, and the rugs and carpets were worn or blackened in various areas. The kitchen walls above the counters had grime, grease, and old food on them from previous tenants. Some of the silverware was also dirty with old food. The furniture in the living room was worn, torn and dirty. The bathroom had smears of dirt and grime on the walls around the light switch, the toilet and the sink. The towels were gray and dingy, although they seemed to have been laundered. No soap was provided in the bathroom for washing your hands. The bedroom sheets and blankets had some stains and there was a dead spider underneath one of the pillows on our bed!! The one floor fan provided was dilapidated, noisy, and a little scary to operate. When trying to use our hair dryer in the bathroom outlet, it worked for only a short time before becoming inoperable, but worked fine once we got it home, obviously due to some defect in the electrical system of the cabin. When attempting to operate the shower, the middle knob came off in my hand! The only good thing about this place was a clean refrigerator and it is pet friendly, although the private patio advertised was taken up most of the time by our upstairs neighbors who appeared to be drunk most of the time. Not a good place to bring children. Very unsafe and gross!

We decided to go on a spontaneous trip to big bear for a two night stay. After researching online the Timberline Lodge had great midweek specials. I called to book for the same day and the gentleman in the office was extremely friendly to take a last minute reservation and also rearranged their schedule to give us the best deal. We brought along our little weiner dog too and they were happy to let him stay with us. All in all it was a great place to stay.

Cabin was as expected for the price we paid. Cabin had everything we needed. The beds were too old and we were not able to sleep thru the night. The owner should get new or at least better beds. It had a kiddy playground that my son & his cousins enjoyed a lot and the outside of the cabin was very clean. All the furniture is very old and a bit dusty and needs some upgrading and probably because of that I got very bad allergies.

We stay in Big Bear at least once a year and can easily say this was our best experience yet with lodging. The Hosts were very friendly and extremely helpful. The cabin was great -- lots of room, clean, comforable. Good community areas including playground, BBQ. Each cabin had a bbq and picnic table. Great location very close to lake and the Village. We felt very welcome and safe.

If you like camping, enjoy the outdoors, being nestled in middle of pine trees and the smell of firewood like we do, then Timberline Lodge is the place to go! My husband and I felt like we were camping but with the luxury of being indoors, our dog loved it.The manager Fendi (sp?) is so friendly and will help you with anything you need. Yes, the office does close early but hey, you have to love the small town feeling here, not like the city. Your not bothered here with maid service and yes you can hear the traffic (not that loud) & only if your in the very front otherwise get a cabin in the back. Oh by the way, Fendi has the best treats in the front office! If your looking for a 5 star hotel, than go to one but if you want to feel like your in a middle of a forest this is the place to go......we got a cabin with the kitchen and everything was clean especially the bathrooms. We love it here and will be back again! I also found out up the street and around the bend there is a picnic area and also zip line! vanallen
