“ADA and ants”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

We just got back from a two night stay at this location. We travel with a disabled child so we were happy when they said that they had a wheel chair accessible room. It did not start out well, the entry to the room had a normal threshold to it (no ramp) so we had to tilt the wheelchair back to get in. I do not think that if someone were in a wheelchair they would have been able to easily access the room. The bath room was OK, it had a roll in shower, but no shower chair, so I had to call the front desk to get one delivered. The other problem we had were the ants, yes there were ants in our room, mainly the bathroom and we found a few on the bed. This made for a sleepless night and I think I got one ant bite on my neck (not sure but I did not have the bite before the stay). Overall the location was nice. The indoor pool and Jacuzzi were nice. The only other problem that we had was accessing the rec room. It was up a series of steep stairs so we were not able to us the room with our daughter. Needless to say I do not believe that this location is ADA compliant (Americans with Disability Act).

Stayed here over Easter, 2014 week on an RCI exchange. Excellent property. Have been involved in RCI/II since 1985 and this has the best activities I have seen offered. They offer free bus trips to the east side of the lake on one day, then later in the week to the west side of the lake. Free transportation to the the local zoo, not very large but nice afternoon trip. Free bingo several times a week. Have their own pier and large enough to handle 15-20 boats for owners/renters only. We were there too early in the season, but they also have boat, kayak, and wave runners for rent at the lodge. Also have a free boat/lake tour 'in season'. This is the only condo in the Big Bear area that actually is lake front. Total of 98 1, 2, and 3 BR units, most of which have water view. Inside pool and in/out side sauna. Fish cleaning station for those so inclined. Fishing allowed from the pier. The week we arrived they were replacing the furniture in 1 of the 4 buildings, the next weekend they were replacing the mattresses in the same building. New outside security cameras were being installed. Lodge is old and located on a small road full of individual cabin rentals. Building maintenance was excellent as was the majority of the staff. Daily linen exchange, bedding replaced mid week. Not a lot of parking, maybe enough for 110-120 cars. Boat trailer parking on site, enough for about 8-10 trailers. Boat ramp not operational due to low water levels. Lake serviced only by snow melt, no streams flow into it. Snow skiing in season within 2-3 miles of lodge.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Lagonita Lodge. It was a spur of the moment decision and we got to Big Bear without a reservation. Luckily it was in April which is considered off season so finding a room was not a problem and prices were low. Luckily we found Lagonita lodge. We decided to splurge and went for the one bedroom with a fireplace and a view of the lake. It still was very reasonable at $129 a night. The View was beautiful and very relaxing and the fireplace was a nice touch. The kitchen is very well equipped. The living and kitchen area are very spacious and comfortable. Nothing fancy but clean and well kept. Outside grounds are nice with BBQs and a nice outdoor Jacuzzi. We will definitely come back to Lagonita.

Room Tip: Get a room with a lake view and Fireplace

My husband and I spent a weekend at Lagonita Lodge in early March when we decided to plan a last minute get-away.

We were pleasantly surprised by everything that we found at Lagonita Lodge. The friendly staff at check-in gave us a welcome bag with toiletries, granola bars and packs of gum. We were informed of an events schedule, none of which we participated in, but it was nice to know about all the same.

Our room was very spacious, with two bathrooms, a living room and a full kitchen. We found everything to be very comfortable. We didn't have a lake view, but it was a very short walk to the lake outside, which was beautiful. Ducks came to our door in the morning!

Parking was easy and we found it to be a relatively short walk to Big Bear Village- about a mile or so. We walked so that we could drink and not have to worry about driving!

My only complaint was the heater. It was very cold in the room, but when we turned the heater on, it was too loud to hear the television. We suffered through the cold, until we turned off the TV to go to bed and then we cranked it up.

The price was right, less expensive than some of the hotels closer to the village.

I would definitely return here and next time, I would try to get a lake view.

Family oriented lodges many facing the lake for wonderful views and walks. The location is serene but just a few minutes drive to the town. Grills and small children play area facing the lake as well. Well equiped, with fireplace, good size living room, dining area and kitchen with all the necessary kitchenware and utensils.

We stayed in the 3 bedroom (had 2 rooms each of 3 bedrooms) and 2 bathrooms. Good and ample towels. And fair amount of closet space.

Heating system worked differently in each room, sliding glass door to patio stuck and slammed. Very very thin walls and ceilings. Since we were there between Xmas and New Years it was crowded and heard everyone walking around and talking. Also not enough parking for the high season crowd

Recreation room simple, small and dated but with small pool jacuzzi, couple of pool tables, ping pong table and very simple basic toddler area.

Rather out off at check in time was 5pm and check out was 10am which was rather strictly enforced...again I get we were there in high season but that's a big gap,

Wifi existent but weak.

Basically great location, bit outdated and needs updating beyond fresh towels. Good for families but then also be prepared for the noise from a lot of people.

Decent stay but may not be worth the money and the crowds in high season

After we had a terrible experience the last time we went (see my review titled “Worst hotel stay ever”), and after I complained to the BBB about how hotel staff dealt with our complaints, the general manager reached out to us and offered us a comped stay, to show us that they can do better. We accepted, and the second stay was really nice. The room was clean and cozy, we especially liked the fireplace. The view on the lake is great, especially in the mornings or at dusk. We very much enjoyed our second stay and can definitely recommend Lagonita Lodge again.
One thing might bother you: Unless you are a really heavy sleeper, the heating system will keep you awake, because it is really loud. We had to turn it off for the night, which might be impossible when it is really cold.

Room Tip: Get one with a fireplace!
