This place serves up large, tasty, sizzling-hot beef patties on wonderful homemade buns. Their culinary creations are everything I hope for when I'm in the mood for a great burger, and having eaten here several times, I've never been let down. Simply put, these are the best burgers anywhere along Highway 395 between L.A. and Reno.

Husband and I decided to eat at the famed Burger Barn our last night in Bishop. The Burger Barn is located in the middle of a small trailer park. Hint #1: Park on the street, not on what looks like parking turf at the BB. Hint #2: if you have small children in tow, make sure they stay clear of an unmarked "drive through" section that cuts a dubious swath between the take-out window and the, uh, trailers.

It took twenty minutes to get up to order window, largely because each order took at least five minutes to execute. When we got up to the window, the server asked us every single question very slowly, and it was one of those situations where, if you told her you had been standing in line for 20 minutes, you would have sealed your fate with even slower service.

When we got our food, we hightailed it back to the hotel; the sun had set and the one eating area at the BB, probably nice if you can get a seat, since it looks out on beautiful Bishop, was full. The food was okay, nothing great. We (and probably you) have had better hamburgers at the (defunct) Whiskey Creek; Denny’s, and a Mexican restaurant. Bottom line: Go to Holy Smoke Bar-B-Cue on Main Street, near the Bishop Park, for good food and good service.

I recently had the Burger Barn"s special of the day which was quiche. It was the best I have tasted..and I enjoy quiche. It held it's shape, but wasn't dry as they often are. Beyond that they have wonderful burgers and homemade ice cream. In fact, I stopped in one morning to see the owner in the process of making the ice cream and rolling out the dough for all the hamburger buns for that day. The only drawback is lack of indoor space in inclement weather, luckily Bishop is in the high desert! Very funky, Great food.

We stopped here for dinner last night as we were looking for a new place to try. You order at a takeout window and they have plenty of outdoor seating and even have a drive thru. The prices were also comparable to what you would pay at Carls Jr for a combo. The burgers are cooked fresh on homemade buns and were delicious. We also tried the french fries and onion rings and I preferred the rings. They also have shakes in many flavors, so I just had to try one for my review. The shakes were good, just not as thick as prefer. They also have tater tots for all u tot lovers. This place would be a great lunch stop while in the area and we will definitely be back for more Burger Barn!

This is an old school family burger and shake place with personality plus! You will never see anything like it, it is at the entrance to a trailer park and is a hodge podge of buildings and unique outdoor seating. If you are a 5 star dining kind of person - this will be a true experience - and may open your mind. If you are a explorer and like to find the local hang outs this is YOUR spot. Don't fall for an on the main drag Carl's burger ever again. The Bishop Burger Barn is where it's at - turn off 395 at Line Street and head west just past Barlow Lane on the north side of the road - they have an OPEN sign on the street.

They have local grass fed beef as an option on your burgers. Burger patties are all hand made as well as the burger buns and the ice cream and the ranch dressing. This is authentic real food - not your average burger place. Fries are crunchy and the onion rings are yummy and huge. The service is not typical drive through - but you can drive through or walk up to the drive through window. It's not lightening fast - but it is so worth the wait to eat REAL food. They have other things besides burgers, but that's all we have had. They had a huge Philly steak sandwich on special this weekend. There is a salad and veggy burger on menu for the non-beef eaters.

Great if you have cranky kids or dogs - it's all outside or in your car, so no need to worry about other dinners not enjoying your family. There is a funky bathroom that's always clean. Staff is super friendly. They do take credit cards.

This is one you just won't find unless you know about it - FIND IT!!
