“Bodega Bay Sailing”

Captain Rich was very business-like in the beginning, making sure we knew all the safety rules and regulations and insisted that we all wear life jackets for our own safety. Once we started going into the bay, the businessman left and the friend took over. Don't get me wrong, he was professional, but a lot of fun too. He pointed out the seals body surfing in the waves. So cute and we even saw a couple of whales, one pretty close to our boat. He played a little Barry White for the whale - he said they like that. O.K. whatever you say Capt. Rich. We got lucky with the weather - it was a beautiful, clear day. Unfortunately not a lot of wind, so we didn't get to sail that much - more motoring and floating, but it was a wonderful, relaxing day. It was so calm out on the water, that we were able to go outside the bay and into open seas. My only regret is that we didn't bring our champagne with us. Thought it would be hard to pour on board, but I don't think so now - darn it.. He is very knowledgable about boating and about Bodega Bay. He even gave us two coupons to a local wine tasting shop so that we could continue our afternoon at Bodega Bay. Thanks Rich for a fun day. You were great.

“Take a break on the water!”
Reviewed 20 June 2012

My 3 sisters and I scheduled a sailing trip with Bodega Bay Sailing and Capt. Rich on Fathers Day. It was a pleasure riding across the waves and listening to stories that were entertaining and informative. Even with the choppy waves that day, Capt. Rich found us a little whale and we saw a small island covered in seals and sea lions. This sailing trip was one of the most enjoyable trips I've done this year!

“Nice Sail with Captain Rich”
Reviewed 29 August 2010

We went sailing with Captain Rich and another couple on Friday morning last week at 10 am and had a good time. The sailboat is pretty nice, although the view straight ahead in front of the sailboat is limited by a canopy, but we took turns standing in the cabin from time to time if we got tired of the view from either side. Our 3-hour tour motored out of Bodega Bay past Doran Park, where Rich is a park ranger, then we set sail out into the ocean past Seal Rock, where we saw lots of sea lions and seals, and we also managed to wake up some sea lions who were sleeping on top of a buoy at the edge of the reef and started barking at us. We had seen lots of gray whales from Bodega Head two days before our trip, so we had hoped to see the whales up close; Rich tried his best to find some for us, but the waves were a bit choppy, making any surfacing whales less visible between the white water, so we didn't see any unfortunately and sailed a bit closer to the coast with great views of the cliffs instead. So my suggestions are to try to go on as calm a day as possible when the water is most glassy during the whale migratory season. This will also help you out if you are prone to sea sickness at all; take a motion sickness tablet beforehand if you are. Of course, Rich told us that some brave souls actually bring their own alcohol and turn it into a party boat, but my stomach would not be strong enough for that. Also, make sure to wear warm clothes, as Bodega Bay is often windy and cold. Of course, Rich told us this beforehand, so we were well prepared. He also had some interesting stories about sailing, the local area, and where to go and what to do nearby. If you like sailing, give it a try!

“Birthday Sailing Trip”
Reviewed 22 July 2009

We went sailing with Rich for my 50th birthday in April and it was one of the highlights of our trip to California! Not only is he an experienced sailor but he was very entertaining! I don't know what we enjoyed most the views, watching the sea lions and dolphins or his great stories and wonderful sense of humor! If you are in the area this is a must do. A great way to spend a afternoon - with the sun in your face, laughing and seeing all of the beauty and nature of Bodega Bay! Thanks Rich!!!!

I just returned from a three hour tour with Bodega Bay Sailing where I was on board Captain Rich Crumley's sailing vessel. Rich has been sailing all kinds of waters since he was six years old and I felt very safe and secure with him. Rich took us out of the bodega bay channel to Seal Rock where all the sea lions lay in the sun. He then took us beyond the reef to see sea lions sunning themselves on the buoy. Out beyond the buoy was open ocean where we saw dolphins and on occasion a stray whale. If you are looking for something fun to do in Bodega Bay, I highly recommend Bodega Bay Sailing.
