“Loved the food - especially the chowder!”
Reviewed 5 January 2012

Clam chowder is one of those foods where everyone has an opinion. My favorite is another's disappointment. Island Style Deli is a local hangout located near a very popular tourist restaurant (Luca's Wharf). It's small, rundown, has limited seating and is not especially clean. The service is slow and lackey (they were slow and botched up a simple order). But the deli has terrific chowder - thick, creamy, loaded with clams and seasoned well. Served in a bread bowl - oohh lala! Burgers are ginormous served with a heaping pile of fries. Top it off with a cold beer - life is good! Given the downsides of this deli, I'd still fight the crowd for another wonderful bowl of chowder.

“Love this place!”
Reviewed 6 September 2011

Unlike the prior reviewer, by husband and I love the clam chowder. We go about every other month and always make a point to hit the Island Deli. The fish and chips are awesome and the ambiance is low key, usually with surfing videos being shown on the TV. We usually get a couple of clam chowders and a fish and chips to go...it is more than enough for the two of us and we usually can't finish it all. We have never ordered anything other than the fish items, but hey....this is what we go to the ocean for.

“Worst Clam Chowder”
Reviewed 16 May 2011

My friend and I ate three different food items at the deli. The tacos are okay but not impressive. The fish taco contained very little fish. The biggest disappointment was with the clam chowder. It contained too many herbs (Rosemary or Thyme). On the plus side, the staff was courteous.

“Good food, no frills.”
Reviewed 22 March 2011

We had read about the Island Style Deli in a food magazine and were anxious to try it when in Bodega Bay. It is a tiny place, a dive really, located adjacent to Lucas Wharf Restaurant. Though it is on the water, any view is blocked by other buildings and fences. You place your order at the counter, grab a soft drink or beer from the refrigerator case, and take your meal to a table in a small adjoining room or to a picnic table in the parking lot outside. We were there on a cold, rainy day, so we ate inside. The room is not heated, so we stayed bundled up in our jackets. My companion and I both had fish and chips, for which this place is best known. It was very good, though the fish batter was a little thicker than we prefer. This inexpensive and definitely no frills cafe is fine if you just want to eat and run, but locals tell us you often have to wait in line on sunny weekends.
