“Great 1950's style desert hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2013

Wonderful weekend at a very funky style hotel. Rooms are large and clean. Great breakfasts served. Fab hiking trails near by, and take an afternoon to explore all of the wonderful metal sculptures in the desert.

Room Tip: Get a view of the pool or one of the cabana rooms

The Palms at Indian Head Desert Inn is the best kept secret in Borrego Springs! My friends and I spent a lovely, long weekend exploring the Anza-Borrego area and stayed at this delightful Inn. It is small yet accommodating, peaceful with efficient service, with intimate restaurants both indoor and poolside, with a delightful menu and great service. Our favorite rooms were the poolside casitas, but other rooms were quiet and roomy. It wasn't until I returned home that I read the history of the Inn on their website: http://www.thepalmsatindianhead.com/history.html
No wonder I left feeling special!

Room Tip: Poolside casitas are delightful!

Our group of 21 women headed out to Borrego Springs for a retreat to bond, relax and laugh, all good for our health. We selected The Palms for our lodging and were treated to so many great experiences. We loved our views of the valley. The staff provided excellent service and our rooms were great. Cookies served each afternoon to our rooms were just part of our wonderful weekend of Borrego fun. Thank you staff for a great stay.

Room Tip: The casita by the pool is a lovely convenience.

This is my second 3-night stay. I've always come in the spring. This place really hearkens back to resorts of the fifties with its mid-century modern architecture, intimate setting, huge pool and friendly staff. The ambiance cant't be beat. This does not make any pretense to be a 5 star hotel and I think it would lose its casual tranquility if it was. The dining for all three meals was reasonably priced and quite good for such a small property. It does fall short in a few areas. TVs were old with limited channels (50% spanish language). The locksets on the doors were kind of funky and the room seating & upholstery was looking kind of dated. However, in light of the other positive aspects, I considered this trivial unless I was going to spend a lot of time in the room

This is a great hotel to relax in the desert. With only 12 rooms, a restaurant and great pool, this place has a quiet relaxing laid back feel. My wife and I brought our bikes and had great rides on fairly level roads through Borrego Valley. The room came with a wonderful breakfast served on the patio overlooking the pool. We had dinner in town which offers several good restaurants (see my French Corner review). The hotel is old and could use upgrades but that is part of its charm. Borrego Valley is filled with nature to discover, we were there for the Hawkwatch, when migrating Swainson's Hawks arrive in the valley each night. Hours by the pool (not heated quite cold) completed our visit. We loved this place!

This inn sits at the edge of Anza Borrego State Park. You can walk out the door and across the desert as the scenery of a beautiful location below Indian Head rotates around you. We booked the Corner Room for four days in February. There's a couch in the sitting room where you can sit with a cup of coffee in hand and watch the sky lighten at sunrise in absolute, awestruck silence. Location, location, location. The Inn has two good restaurants where the locals come for lunch and dinner. We enjoyed our burgers and beer on the terrace in mid-afternoon, looking across the picture-perfect swimming pool (as if painted by David Hockney) in the shade of a grove of mature palms. Yes, it's rustic and shows its modernist shortcomings, but it's also a landmark property. Our second stay.

Room Tip: The Corner Room, hands down.

We love it for many reasons. One reason it that it sits well outside of town all isolated. We like that. Great views of the desert. THe pool is fantastic--and huge! It is beautiful--just to look at. Then there are the nearby "ruins" -- a number of bungalows that burned many years ago but the walls and are all still standing. I am a photographer and have spent hours photographing them. The next reason is kind of difficult to explain well, but I'll try: We love it 'cause it's not all fancied out. It's not dilapidated, but it is well-worn. In the 50's it was the hot-spot for the Hollywood stars. It later went in to disuse and was even abandoned for some time. The new owners have brought it back to usefulness, but have not gone overboard with fancy decor and amenities, thus keeping the price very reasonable--which is another thing we love about it. We tend to go in the off season when we are almost the only guests on the property. This is our favorite hotel anywhere!

Room Tip: We like the upstairs corner room. It gets hotter than the other rooms, but the view is worth it to u...
