“Mind blowing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2013 via mobile

What an amazing experience. We did the short educational hike near the park headquarters called the 'Redwoods Trail'. They have a flier for .25 that highlights the different types of trees and some specific noteworthy specimens.

This route would be perfect for anyone wanting to learn more about these wonderful trees. The trail guide says it will take an hour but that is just because you will be stopping to collect pieces of your mind back up along the way. Well that and lots of photos

Truly mind blowing experience I knew the trees were huge but who knew how tiny the pine cones they came from. I did not. I always pictured the larger ponderosas pine tree type cones.

Well worth the $10 vehicle admission fee for anyone in the area I highly recommend you check it out.

“Amazing state park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 October 2013

The roads in are a bit scary- hair pin, blind turns. Once in the park though you can relax with nature and breath in the trees. Many trails to hime- one for any skill level or duration to suit you. The redwoods are amazing and the park is well maintained. Beautiful spot to re- charge.

“Thank Goodness the State Didn't Close Down!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013

We were in San Fran to enjoy prepaid tours out to Yosemite and Muir Woods but thanks to the US government shutdown we were able to enjoy instead the Big Basin Redwoods State Park. Well worth the drive which is beautiful even for a visit of only a few hours and come back via the beach highway for a change of scenery. The trees were beautiful and the park is well set up. There was a $10 entrance fee.
Thanks for being open.

“Beautiful and Impressive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2013 via mobile

My girlfriend and I did a few hour hike into the park and had a great time. There are a variety of hikes of different lengths and elevations, and some of the most impressive redwoods are actually on a short and flat half mile loop. The ranger at headquarters was friendly and helped us pick out a good route. In short, don't miss this if you're in the area.

“My favorite hiking spot in Bay Area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 October 2013

Big Basin is always my first choice for hiking in bay area. It's located at south of Saratoga which is about 30 mins drive. Found it while I was looking for a red wood park for hiking and loved it since my first time here. Ranger is very kind and helpful about the route suggestion. It has various difficulty and length of routes for different level of hiker. Just pick the one fits you most. Parking is 10 dollars and there are plenty spots. Really good get away spot for bay area.
