Wonderful experience out under the stars. Crowded in summer, but we've been treated to this by family in the cooler months and when the crowds are few.

This natural hot spring is wonderful. Several pools of varying temps. Even a kiddie, wading pool. The scenery that surrounds you as your soaking is gorgeous. Not a fancy place just fantastic! We camped up there and spent 2 days just playing in the water. I hope too many people don't find it and ruin the tranquility.

Travertine Hot Springs is such a gem -- and it's free. Avoid busy times (weekend days and evenings). We have gone at 6 or 7 a.m. on Saturday or Sunday morning and have it all to ourselves.

Travertine is easy to get to right off the highway near the ranger station in Bridgeport, and the rangers are happy to give directions. Beautiful high desert landscape and great hot springs. If you explore the area a bit you will find lots of pools aside from the four most popular that are grouped together. All the pools have varying temperatures from very hot to luke warm. When we went it wasn't crowded and all the people we met at the pools were friendly. You travel up a dirt road to get here with a very easy hike to the pools, but there are no amentities except a porta potty type bathroom, so bring water and snacks.
