The only downside is the tiny bugs in the bathroom and they changed computer systems so made a error with our booking and payments .
However the place is unusual and quite a nice place to stay , very close to Bodie.

We stayed one night at Virginia Creek Settlement as it is very handy for the (not-to-be-missed) Bodie ghost town.
The room (No 2) was a bit small by modern standards but has everything you'd want and a comfortable bed. Log cabin style with lots of photos of film cowboys on the wall (Lash LaRue anyone?)
Food was good and plenty of it. Mostly an East-Californian take on Italian. Not quite what you might expect, but good all the same. Very good value, particularly the wines.
Friendly, though very informal, service.
We enjoyed it and we'd definitely stay here again.

I've stayed here a few times. I recommend that you book a room rather then the tent cabins. I found the room to be a wonderful mix of rustic log cabin with old western movie pictures. The restaurant serves a very nice bill of fair.

Staying at the Virgina Creek Settlement is always a highlight of my trip when I visit the eastern side of the Sierra's

Pretty neat establishment, close proximity to Bodie (ghost town) and Mono lake. Not far from Yosemite, June lake, Mammoth lakes and so on. Nice dinner, very-very nice staff. And you can sleep in a pioneer-wagon :-) I stayed in a "full cottage" (with en-suite bathroom), pity I never found how to turn on the heat -- night was cold (mid-late Oct). Simple environment, but everything was good.
Oh yeah, there were some issues while checking in and leaving -- new reservation/billing system, probably resolved until now.

Room Tip: If you don't mind shared toilets, go for the wagon cart (pioneer-style).

What a cute little place. It has a real family feel. The gentleman working the front desk was very informative and gave my friend and I some great local tips for places to take photos, and visit. The Travertine Hot Springs were definitely a must and very close by. Ask how to get there because there are no signs, but worth the find! I have just started a gluten-free diet and was thrilled to see they have gluten free pancakes AND gluten free pizza. This was awesome! The room we had was nice, beds were comfortable. There were flies in the room, but the door must have been left open. Sort of a bummer; but we killed them all! Overall, a great place and we would totally stay again!

Room Tip: Motel Room #5

If you're looking for five star luxury, keep looking. But if you want a warm welcome to a peaceful, comfortable place to stay, this is where to go. It's an old-fashioned Mom and Pop run business. If there is anything at all that they can do to make you feel more welcome, you only have to say the word. For example, there are no hair dryers in the motel rooms but you can borrow one from the front desk. Our room had a hand made quilt on the bed which really set the atmosphere in the log cabin room.
There was some traffic noise from the main road, since all the rooms are close to the highway but it didn't bother me, and I'm a very light sleeper. Quiet time is encouraged after 10pm.
While we were having dinner, our neighbor lit a cigar on the porch, which filled our room with foul smelling smoke. We closed the window, opened the back window and the ceiling fan soon cleared it up. Don't leave your room window open, if you don't like smoke.
The restaurant seemed a little pricey, until we saw the both the quantity and quality of the food. It was excellent. Like the hotel, you only have to say the word if anything is not to your liking. The staff are eager to please.
The way the campground is set up is imaginative, with the tent cabins looking like old buildings. The whole place is filled with character. I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here with a large group, to the point I think we took over the place. Owners were very helpful, cheerful, and very friendly. Great times! It is enough out of the way to be remote but still be in the middle to get to other places. Visited Mono Lake while we were here. Highly recommend staying here. Stayed in a cabin with a Queen fold out fouton and two bunk beds. It has a kitchen and a bathroom with a stand in shower. Very nice. Creek runs right along side, soothing sounds. Bunk bed matresses are a bit stiff. Will visit again.

Room Tip: Most rooms and tent spaces from what I saw were all located really well. I suggest Cabin 9 and along...
