After visiting many cities and touring we were looking for something different to enjoy. The Seven Ladders Canyon hike is a must do for any outdoor enthusiast! We loved the actual ladders to climb the canyon - you may get a bit wet! It was an absolute exhilarating experience. We continued onwards to the cabana at about 1500m(?) - it took us a further 2 hours and was fairly difficult due to rough terrain and an ongoing incline for pretty much the entire two hours - not for the physically challenged. The cabana hosted offered beers and a light meal (bean soup was all that was left that day - but they also do have meats) for less than $15. After enjoying the beautiful vistas of Brasov and the surrounding mountains (and the grazing donkeys) - we headed back down on a much more forgiving walk (called 'the family road') taking about 2 hours. There was an option of heading to the highest peak (another hour) but we declined. We were thrilled to have chosen this option - it is well worth the trip.

This is the number one attraction around Brasov! Starting from Dibul Morii parking with a nice 45 minutes walk along the river you will hit the newly built 'cabana'. A log cabin where you can warm up or have a drink. And buy entry tickets (10 lei for adults, 5 for children). Next you can enter the stairs to conquer the canyon. For years a dodgy challenging experience, they now rebuild all stairs and platforms, providing you unique access through the canyon. Various waterfalls, rocks, steep walls finally bringing you to the upper valley. From there you can take a hike to Piatra Mare (couple of hourse!) or return via the backside of the canyon to the cabin and have an easy stroll to return. Absolutely fabulous family experience - we will keep coming back!

Short after taking the exit from the Brasov road there are some maps with the different routes you may take. We did bring any hiking map, but took a picture at these maps with the cellphone and we were all set. The paths are marked with crosses and triangles of different colors and are easy to follow (although you have to be careful at the crossroads.

The gorge was closed due to renovation. The rest of the routes were great anyway; we went in october and I doubt there is any better season: the forest were all yellow and red and there was some snow in the peaks. We spend 3-4 hours and could have spent much more.

The canyon is located approximately 25 km or a 30 minute drive south of downtown Brasov. Once at the unmarked entrance (left at Blvd Libertatii/Rt. 15), the canyon is located at the end of a roughly one hour hike through fields & forests. The hike is not strenuous but does have some uphill and downhill portions which may be challenging.
Unfortunately, when we went, the ladder path through the canyon itself was under renovation but once that's done, I expect it will be a marvelous sight to see! It will allow for hiking through the gorges and waterfalls of the park! Looking forward to heading back!
