“Great for a small town hotel”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

Was in the area on business, selected this hotel to stay. The hotel was renovated and was clean. The family owned hotel is maintained and it appears that most of the clientele is business related.

Would return if in the area.

Room Tip: Select the suite, this is the newer part with larger rooms

This was the #2 rated place and top rated place available in Burney the night of our stay. We had one of the older 2 person queen rooms, but at $99 a night, we assumed for a little more than the basics. Here's my assessment:

1. The room was very basic. 2 beds(besides the filthy bedcovers, actually clean and quite comfy), table and chairs, fridge, microwave, horrid coffee maker. It was fairly clean and you could tell there was some "modernizing" that had happened) Bathroom was a joke. A teetering glass shelf was all there was to put your stuff, the shower was TINY. None of this is necessarily bad, but I did not feel it warrented $99 a night (and am wondering why our price was so much higher than other trip advisor reviews...we had 2 kids, is that really $30-40 more a night? My experience is that they tend to be free...). Also, we were asked THREE times if we had any pets. We did not. It was posted clearly at the checkin desk. I GET it. You don't want pets. Don't make me feel like I'm trying to hide anything though. Oh! And, there is free wi-fi, but no streaming. Which was a bummer.

2. We had a wakeup call at 5:50 am that we had not ordered. Ok, mistakes happen, but after already paying more than seemed reasonable for our room, it wasn't helping things

3. The icing on the cake. As we were preparing to leave, my 4 year old went to open the back curtains. She may have pulled a bit and the cheap connectors of the curtains to the rod fell off (fair, our bad), but then the WHOLE curtains and rod assembly fell down almost right on top of her head. It was barely connected. When we approached the owner about this, he just kept pointing the finger at our daughter. Ok, yes, she pulled on it, but she's FOUR, the thing should have actually been screwed in (there was a place to do this) so that it didn't topple down with a tug. No apologies, just a lot of explanations about how big the motel is.

Bottom line: It seems like the 30 room place is wholly owned and operated by a husband and wife team. I am sure they work very very hard to keep this place going. Its not awful and probably fine if you are travelling through town on your own. But the older rooms seem fairly overpriced, in my opinion. The owner seemed cheerful and very hard working, but I think there could be some polishing of the customer service skills. This very well might be the best option in the town, I don't know, but next time through Burney, I'd probably try somewhere else or maybe drive a bit down the road to find another option

Room Tip: Try one of the new rooms. Its a whole new building. I'm assuming its more worth the price.

Had a great trip one of the best parts was being pleasantly surprised by a room that very clean but more importantly resources and attention paid to the small things. The room had three pillows per bed, very important to disabled clients, it had a soft top on the mattress providing support but allowing your body actually rest and relax from the days activity. A cold fridge when we got there to put our medicine and milk in. It was a trip I am looking forward to repeating and I am looking forward to renting the same room next year.

Although we paid for extra person, the room was equipped with only 2 sets of everything - towels, sugar and sweetener, coffee cups (no other cups of glasses in the room). The hand towels were disgustingly dirty, that we used the wash cloth instead.
On the checkout day, at 9:40 AM we received 2 calls (we missed the first call) from the front desk to remind us that checkout is at10:00 AM with no exception, though the motel did not seem too busy. By 9:50 the manager was already pacing from one room to the other chasing guests out of their rooms and watching them loading their stuff in the cars. Us and at least 2 more customers were the watched and ushered out or our rooms at 10 AM.

We occupied a ground level room in the corner, by the picking tables and the owner was dis-considerate and chatting with other people right at our window, while we were trying to rest.

Room Tip: Avoid room #163. One window is facing the picking tables and the other the stairs. Lots of traffic a...

I have been staying at Shasta Pines for over 6 years on an annual fishing trip. Rooms are great, owner is absolutely fabulous. Very friendly and goes out of their way to accommodate their guests. Have never had a problem, and find the rate to be extremely competitive. Have never let me down or disappointed me. It's the only place to stay in Burney!!

Bob

Room Tip: rooms in the "new" building are fantastic.

Nicely appointed suite for Burney, Ca but they were charging Oxford Inn and Suites (Spokane, WA) prices and delivering without Oxford service. We noted on our reservations that we would be a late arrival. It was cold in Burney and they did not turn on the heater in our room. When we arrived about 9:30 pm the room temperature was 56F. The heater thermostat is mounted on the wall about 18" away from the heater so it never really warmed up. There was a very distracting hum in the ceiling fan, necessary for what air circulation there was. The bathroom is very roomy, 10x15'?, yet does not have it's own heat source. We had to turn the hair dryer on high to keep from freezing to death while using the toilet. Also, with all the handicapped rails in the bathtub you had to stand sideways in the tub. Also needs a modern shower head.

Room Tip: The king suites are the newest and roomiest. My folks stayed in a single queen in the older section...
