I've just returnded from a business trip to the Ugadale Hotel & Cottages, the facilities are fantastic for the golf business traveller. But I have to say, the quality of the hotel, the fixtures and fittings, the staff, the food and the views are world class! This place really is a true hidden gem, we will certainly be back - well done!

Room Tip: Front facing overlooking the first at Machrihanish Golf Club

Stayed on business for 3 nights, some of the best weather anyone could have asked for. I have never been to this part of Scotland before so drove from St Andrews, took B roads the lot and it only took 5 hours 20 mins. I couldn't believe the scenery had even stopped to take photos (I never do this!) Arrived at the hotel great check in, told where we were meeting up and got settled into what can only be described as a high quality 5 star bedroom that was homely and not hotel at all. Service is personal, there is a real desire to get it right for you in everything the do. Meetings were in one of their lodges and, open great light yet quiet good Wifi all over FREE! even better. We went to the sister hotel for dinner one night and where driven by the hotel - great plan wine selection exceptional without being over the top. and the highlight was the food, Queenie scallops, porterhouse steaks, Langoustines showed local produce off at its best. How can people knock Scotland when you can drive to the tip of an almost island and find gems like these- thanks to David, Andy John and the whole team for such a great and fruitful time. I will be back with the family soon. By the way the prices are so reasonable don't to a city break do one at Mac Dunes!!

Room Tip: only some rooms have baths but the showers are amazing

After an extremely long journey I didn't expect to consider returning. However, after a weekend of fantastic food, exemplary service and luxurious accommodation I am already planning my return!
Every staff member spent time chatting and was friendly.
One suggestion would be to build a hot tub in the absence of swimming pool!

Went back to the ugadale after being in the area, did not think this place could get better but it did, had a fantastic weekend, food food, cottage great, and on the saturday of our stay there was an open gold championship held at this golf clbub with a presentation at night and the value for the tickets was excellet, a carvery, with champagne to toast the winners and then a top local band.
Keep it up at the ugadale service first class and manager very friendly and helpful as is all his staff

I walked the Kintyre Way at the weekend and passed this place on Saturday. At 5.30pm I went into their pub and bought a beer and asked for a menu. I was told they could not serve me any food since they were fully booked! Welcome to Scotland!!! Obviously the board outside that said "Food Served from Noon". Before I left I asked how long they would serve alcohol for. "Open til 1am, last orders 12.30". No wonder the Scots drink!

We were on a dinner, B&B package staying in the cottages. The accommodation was excellent. Dinner in the hotel was only average, and front desk was a bit confused. Service very professional and friendly. Wonderful location.

We stayed at the Ugadale in early June whilst golfing in the area. The hotel and location were excellent. Rooms were clean and very spacious. We ate in the Clubhouse Bar adjacent to the hotel, as the hotel restaurant was full. Food and service were excellent. The only let down (and why the review did not get 5/5) was the breakfast. The full Scottish breakfast was poor. The sausages were limp and tasteless and I was not expecting very fatty streaky bacon. There must surely be a decent quality butcher on the Kintyre peninsular that could provide good quality produce. That said, one of our party had the smoked haddock and poached eggs, which was excellent. Other than that you could not ask for more.

Thank you for your patronage and for sharing your thoughts. I am pleased to hear that your group enjoyed their stay with us.

We take great pride in our efforts to provide outstanding offerings in our restaurants at all times of day, so I’m sorry that your breakfast wasn’t up to your expectations. Many other customers have commented that they very much enjoy both our sausages and bacon, but as with all things, sometimes it’s a matter of preference. People in particular have commented favorably on our streaky (or side) bacon. In the future, perhaps we will consider offering both types of bacon – streaky bacon and back bacon. In the meantime, I will pass your comments along to our executive chef because we want everyone’s breakfast to be perfect.

We hope to welcome you back soon.

Greg Sherwood
