My husband and I recently stayed in one of the Ugadale Cottages with some friends! We were nearing the end of our trip and I must say the wonderful accommodations were greatly appreciated. The bed was one of the best during out stay and I can't say enough about the nice large shower. All of the staff was very accommodating as well. We showed up early afternoon and headed straight to Machrihanish Dunes in hopes of getting to play it a day earlier than we had arranged. " Absolutely" was the response! The very nice lady behind the counter even called the main golf shop to change it for us, made us a wonderful lunch, called the hotel to let them know we would be checking in later, and then even called and made us a dinner reservation at the Old Club House Pub! Now that is service!

We played both courses during our stay and both were simply breathtaking!

The internet was a little slow, but the front desk receptionist was wonderful with trying to help us check in for our upcoming flight!

In response to previous reviews....as an American visitor....the coffee was wonderful and freshly brewed, not instant like most of the places served on our trip! We love fresh brewed coffee!

See you Soon!

Our all male group of friends recently stayed in the Ugadale Cottages as part of a golfing trip to Machrihanish. Although Machrihanish is a little out of the way to get to we arrived to find the accomodation was first class and staff super friendly and helpful. Cottages were immaculate inside and perfectly set up for our golfing group. Top quality linen and one of the comfiest beds I have ever slept in. The adjacent pub and restaurant were excellent and would be highly reccomended. Staff here were very friendly and efficient. We ate there both nights and couldn't fault the standard of food or the service. Definitely reserve a table at the pub if its a weekend night.
A top weekend and a top location....5 stars!!

WE arrived at this beautiful part of Scotland on the ferry from Ardrossan. Even before we had arrived we had the pleasure of soaking up some pretty fabulous views towards Arran with the sun starting to set behind this and the islands beyond. Arriving at the hotel was particularly pleasing as the last time we had seen the hotel it was still being renovated when we were staying at the Ugadale cottages. Our expectations were high as the cottages had been decorated to a very high standard and we had really enjoyed our stay. The Ugadale did not disappoint from the moment we walked into the reception. The hotel has been decorated sympathetically in a traditional style that combines comfort and luxury with generous sized rooms and there is a feeling of light and space throughout. The room on the orner of the hotel exceeded our expectations with windows on two sides with beautiful views looking onto the sea and hills respectively.

The service was impeccably delivered by Andrew, the front of house manager and his team. They could not do enough for us, including asking one of the staff to come out to advise us on a trip to the Isle of Gigha. We did not golf on this trip but both courses have a backdrop that is hard to beat. Both the dinner and the breakfast in the Kintyre restaurant within the hotel were delicious. The quality delivered by the hotel on accomodation and service is first class and and I am looking forward to returning soon with friends to enjoy the golfing and the spa. The pull to return is particularly strong as we look across to the Mull of Kintrye from our hometown of Ayr.

With family at a recent wedding and was very impressed with luxurious accommodation and the helpful and cheerful staff. They made a wonderful wedding absolutely perfect, and the sun shone the whole weekend! Would return for a short break and golfers would love this place, challenging course I have been told!

When you think of Scotland, Kintyre, Campbelltown, and your family clan’s home, Glenbarr Abbey- your research does not include Travel and Leisure or Town and Country. In fact, it is difficult to find listings of any sort on Orbitz, Travelocity, or TripAdvisor. And that, is probably a good thing, for it allows those few of us who have found the Ugadale and Macrahanish to enjoy this sumptuous location for ourselves. When planning a visit to the family “clan” home at nearby Glenbarr Abbey, it became obvious at an early stage of planning that finding a place to stay would be problematic at best. Remembering that Scotland was the destination made compromise a reality. Boy, were we surprised.

The Ugadale Hotel met or exceeded every possible expectation, and not expectation for Scotland, but the entire world. What a pleasant, pleasant surprise. The staff was beyond compare- friendly, accommodating, and eager to make our stay memorable.

The rooms were impeccable. Bathrooms amongst the finest we have seen in a hotel. Towels of heavy cotton and robes awaited the shower or separate tub. The linens and bedding were of highest quality. The entire room was meticulous and enormous when compared to a much higher priced room in any major city.

The food service and wait staff was delightful- giving recommendations or providing whatever was desired. There was no shortage of fresh berries, or fine cuisine in the hotel. And in the neighboring Pub, the sandwiches and lighter fare was prepared to order and priced according to quality and service. Deserts were decadent, but I was assured “non-fattening”.

Visiting the clan home at Glenbarr was supposed to be our highlight, but walking the cliffs overlooking the Mull of Kintyre, watching the sunsets, visiting the distillery in Cambelltown, driving in the country, and sunbathing-yes, sunbathing made the Ugadale a destination. And we didn’t pick up a club!

Most importantly, the staff was extraordinary. Everyone seemed to enjoy what they were doing. We were fortunate to have met nearly everyone, from Mr. Martin the GM, Brian James the Red Sox fan and Executive Chef, the personable and charming desk staff, and the entire compliment of wait/serve staff- were all there to serve the customer. I asked several if they were trained by Disney, because they all had the youthful and pleasant dispositions that we all recognize and appreciate.

No downsides or regrets in any aspect of our stay!

We have travelled the world for 50 years. My heritage is Scottish. Until July 6th-the 9th, I am not sure I would have looked forward to returning to Scotland. The Ugadale Hotel, Southworth Golf, and the people of Macrahanish have changed our minds. I kind of hope no one reads this review.

Room Tip: Any room is enjoyable, but an ocean view room would be advisable.

The Ugadale Hotel played host to my brother's wedding at the weekend and it's hard to imagine a more perfect choice. We loved our room the minute we opened the door - spacious and luxurious, it had the most incredibly comfortable bed and an ensuite bathroom with both bath *and* shower, so we could choose between convenience and indulgence (we did both). The view from our first-floor window was also breathtaking, out over the water to the distant Paps of Jura, and the full breakfast in the Kintyre Club bar/restaurant was just the job to set us up for a long day's celebrating.

The staff were absolutely brilliant - friendly, professional and always ready to help. Particular mention must go to Mari, Rhona, Andy and Dean, who all leapt to our assistance to iron out last-minute technical hitches and make for an unforgettable day. Whether we needed a pen or an improvised easel on which to stand our order of service, we only had to ask.

It's a long drive down from Glasgow (3.5-4 hours, not counting stops) but absolutely worth it - even if you're *not* planning to take advantage of the two golf courses nearby. Five stars, very well earned indeed!

Room Tip: If you can, get a room at the front of the building - the view out over the water is stunning.

Thank you for your patronage of The Ugadale Hotel and your great review! We are most pleased to hear that you enjoyed the accommodation, food and service at our award-winning hotel, as well as the world-class golf. We should note that while the area may be remote, it is readily accessible by air (return flights six days a week from Glasgow) and sea (ferry service four days a week), and road access takes you through some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery. I should also note that while we do offer a great golf experience, we are not just for golfers--there are also many non-golf activities in the area which reflect its breathtaking natural beauty and rich history—please see our response to the “Fantastic stay!” review below for a partial list! Thank you again—we look forward to welcoming you back in the future!
