First time visitors, we booked Suite No 5 (as recommended on another Tripadvisor review) and it is certainly the best room in the house. The bed was extremely hard - but that's always subjective. The quality of the look and feel of the hotel is definitely top notch. Staff really friendly and welcoming - a special thank you to Sandra on Reception - nothing was too much trouble for her. We were staying out of season which meant there were very few guests, resulting in very little atmosphere, expecially when dining. Our meal in the Kintyre Club was excellent - though potentially too big a portion. Breakfast was the biggest let down. The Continental option was very limited with the cold meat, plastic-wrapped cheeses and pastries all looking as if they'd been lying out for several days at a time. The hot plate dishes were delicious but tended to arrive before you'd finished your cereals! You make your own tea and coffee but the water in the urn never seemed to be hot enough, so we didn't manage a hot drink on any morning. There was just a distinct lack of attention to detail with breakfasts - not from the kitchen but from a front-of-house perspective. And don't expect a morning paper to read with your breakfast - the driver has to go into Campbeltown to fetch it, so it was around 11.30am before it arrived! But that's just being picky - this is a very good hotel, which is only a short step away from being excellent.

Room Tip: Definitely go for a room at the front to get the magnificent view of the sea.

We stayed in the hotel over the New Year holiday. Stunning drive down to Machrihanish with a stop for lunch at Tarbert, Loch Fyne.
The hotel has a real quality feel about it, with well trained friendly staff and a great pub next door (which we ate in as the main restaurant was fully booked).
Great value for money.
I am looking forward to returning in the summer to play some golf.
If only the majority of Scottish hotels could emulate the Ugadale.

Room Tip: Sorry, clicked the Swimming Pool by mistake (No pool)

We had such a great time last New Year that we came back again and brought some more family and friends with us. Everyone loved it and had a great time. The food on New Year's Eve was excellent and we enjoyed the music and atmosphere - we even had a wee dance! The cottages were as comfortable as ever and the staff could not do enough for us. Another relaxing and enjoyable break - we will be back!

Room Tip: Cottages with sea view are noisier but nice to look out onto sea.

Just returned from a 3 night break at the Ugadale Hotel over New Year 2013/14.

The hotel was excellent and our room had a great view out to sea and over to the 1st tee on Machrihanish Golf Club. The hotel is part of a development called the Village at Machrihanish Dunes which is slightly confusing as the Machrihanish Dunes golf course is a short drive away. However, that's not really a problem and the hotel offers a shuttle service to the golf course if you require it.

We twice ate in the Old Club House Pub next to the hotel (not to be confused with the Machrihanish Golf Clubhouse which is situated on the other side of the hotel) and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food which was extremely good value. On New Year's Eve we dined in the Kintyre Club in the hotel and had a great night complete with entertainment which included the local pipe band, indoors, at midnight (and beyond!).

The thing we will remember most from this trip, however, was the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff we met throughout the development. Nothing was too much trouble and made for an overall really enjoyable experience.

We visited family in Campbeltown who looked after our son. We stayed at Ugadale for two days which was great. The hotel was ideal, the room was lovely, the restaurant was closed as it was winter but the bar / restaurant a short walk away was probably just as good.

Only negative was I asked bacon and poached eggs for breakfast. I got a small rasher of bacon and one poached egg.. probably my fault for not asking for more but maybe the staff could have asked me how much I would like. Anyway it is a small thing in an other wise great stay and the weather was very stormy which made the view from room 16 amazing.

I love Machrihanish and the hotel was excellent. I will stay again and bring my golf clubs next time.

PS. Typically Scottish staff (some adopted Scottish) = very friendly and genuinely concerned about making sure the guests enjoy their stay.

I had a very pleasant stay at the Ugadale while I was in the area to play golf at the Dunes and the Old course. Very good food, helpful and supporting staff, great shuttle service, just a fabulous experience!
