A really quaint cottage with magnificent views over the Solent, lots of places to visit but most of the time we were content to while away the hours watching all the different things happening on the Solent. We were very lucky with the weather which was glorious.

Liked best: The magnificent outlook
Liked least: I did find the stairs difficult but because of the downstairs loo and shower didn't have to tackle them very often, the shower is very hot and could be much too hot for a child, but I would still go again. ta

“Glorious view....but...!”
Reviewed 13 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

A view like few we have experienced...compelling and soothing. The cottage is now showing its age, and needs less "nautical nick-knacks" and some decent chairs and a few shelves in kitchen. Beds were superbly comfortable, but "wet-room" is dark cupboard, with little control of the very hot shower. Confusing "right of way" instructions..we never did find the washing m/c. and previous reviewers have commented on this.
Masses to see in area, and good local pub just up road and a superb cafe for breakfast.

“What a gem of a cottage”
Reviewed 14 March 2014 for a stay in October 2013

Filled with character, fantastic views and peaceful area, this cottage is one I would recommend for anyone wanting a great base to return to but also a cottage you'll be happy to spend time in.

Can't wait to go back.

“beautiful views of sea, sunsets, Solent and Isle of Wight”
Reviewed 5 November 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We had a fabulous few days in this lovely coast guard cottage. It is right on the coast with beautiful views of sea, sunsets, the Solent and the Isle of Wight.
The house was really cosy with rather luxurious under floor heating and very comfortable beds. There is so much to see and do in this area with a beautiful nature reserve literally on the doorstep, and Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight nearby, and a pub just down the road!
Meli, the owner was really helpful and lives nearby. We only wished our long weekend could have been a bit longer as there was not enough time to just sit and gaze at the view from the big picture windows!

“What a Gem of a Cottage”
Reviewed 12 August 2013 for a stay in July 2013

Arrived 20th July for one week. Fell in love with cottage straight away it just felt so cosy. The views were fantastic especially from the master bedroom and the cottage had absolutely everything that we needed for our week by the sea holiday. Had some lovely trips out to Portsmouth visited the Mary Rose and the Victory, went to Hamble on the little 'pink ferry' loads of fab places for lunch or dinner and travelled a little further to Bosham . We were blessed with long warm sunny days what more could we want. Had dinner at the Osborne Pub twice not bad , and lunch twice at the Breeze Café. We loved Cowes View Cottage even our 17 year old son.

“Ideal first holiday with our new baby”
Reviewed 24 July 2013 for a stay in July 2013

As our son is only a few months old, we were looking for somewhere we could have full facilities in a nice location. Cowes view is a delightful little cottage, which suited us perfectly. Ok, you take a chance sometimes with the British weather. But we took the attitude that if we stay inside for a week and watch stormy seas and DVDs, it's still better than working! - and we got lucky with a hot July, which made for a great stay. The cottage is in a small community, and there are 2 pubs, a cafe and a good convenience store within 10 minutes walk (with a buggy). Views are great, and the shore is just down a path through the gardens. The beach makes for a great view and a nice walk, but this is the south coast - so don't come expecting white sands. Location-wise, the cottage is well suited for exploring the area - we spent time in Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard and the New Forest, as well as on the sea front and in local towns. A car is not essential (there are bus services), but makes these further trips more accessible. The cottage itself is well thought out, clean and fun, with all the conveniences we needed. It took a couple of days to stumble across the guidebook, and discover that the washing machine is hidden in an out-house, but the kitchen is well equipped, bathrooms are fine, and a cot was provided with clean sheets. Parking is on the road outside, but that was not an issue. A lot of thought has gone into making this cottage work well as a holiday home, with some really nice touches as well as all the essential functions. I think the only downside for us was that there is no wifi - there is a dongle to plug into a laptop, which will get you online. But we had come with ipad/iphones, so couldn't use it - which was frustrating when you want to search for local attractions or get your groceries delivered and there is limited 3G coverage. But that was a small downside to an otherwise excellent stay. The neighbours were friendly, and the owner was keen to check in and ensure we had a great stay. We would be happy to stay here again in the future for another restful break - highly endorsed.

“Idyllic stay face to face with the Isle of Wight”
Reviewed 22 July 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We've spent a week there with our little Son the second time - and for sure not the last time. Nice, small cottage with well-tended and individual facilities and - important - a very friendly, warmly and reliable hirer with a good empathy for children's needs. More private feeling than typical Tourist Style, just like the nice small town Stubbington. British Smalltown life with a great maritime touch. You got an epic view on the solent and the Isle of Wight from here - and a (stony) beach to reach on a private path within a view minutes - depends on how many seashells and stones your kids collects on the way ;-) It's a nice run area for dogs too - but I am not sure if pets are allowed in Cowes View too (we don't have one). If you anyhow want to see something else, there are a lot of activities including big Cities (Southampton, Portsmouth), old, small Villages (Beaulieu, Arundel) or nature (Isle of Wight, New Forest) easy to reach. Also there some nice playgrounds for bigger and smaller children around. Not much to miss at Cowes View, so there's really no reason not to return.
