“Don't go out of your way”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

We happened to be in Calistoga so we stopped to see the geyser but I'm glad we didn't go out of our way. We spent about an hour there. The geyser would erupt for about 4 minutes. There were some goats/sheep/llama feed and visit with, but not much else.

“It's a lot of fun”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

It isn't a big show, it isn't super interactive and it isn't Yellowstone. However, if you are in Napa, and plan on driving up valley, it is well worth the stop to see it. It is a little old school, but it gives you a vision into what geothermal is, and the power that it can generate. There is a fee, but it isn't enormous, and is cheaper than a lot of things you can do in the Napa Valley, and it is a nice stop to catch your equilibrium while touring the wineries in the area.

“if you visit napa/calistoga, see it”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

Compared with exciting, "modern" media shows and attractions, it is boring, ok.
It is a "down to earth" thing. Actually, most of the action is even under the earth .. get educated and read the plates or website.
I have been there now multiple times, and always enjoyed the setting, the peace, the quietness, the wind touching the bamboo .. a calm and serene place (despite some tourists). Then suddenly you have the water eruption happening .. it IS nice if you have a passion for wonders on earth !
It is a perfect stop and picnic place if you do a day tour through Napa valley. If you come with a (motor)bike, mention it and you will get a discount on the entry fee.
The goats are nice too and love to be fed, of course.
Again - don't compare with las vegas artificial water light and sound shows. Expect nothing fancy. But note this thing goes on probably longer than humans have been in this area, and it will continue like that.
I wonder if it did announce the recent (August 24th 2014) with irregularity .. when i was there a week before the quake, it had its normal cycle but some intermittent smaller fumes and eruptions ..

“Check it out But don't get to excited”
Reviewed 23 August 2014 via mobile

Having been to Yellowstone and seeing Old Faithful I thought it's worth checking out. It is a bit expensive, however they do offer a military discount. The geyser itself was cool. There are plenty of places to sit back and relax to wait and watch. As for souveniers, there is not much. They do sell cold drinks and chips. Cashier was nice and friendly. If you have time to visit, why not.

“Great intro to geothermal”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

This is such a fun, low key, old school site. We road our bikes hear from town and spent over an hour watching the geyser. Very interesting for families.
