If you are looking for a B&B that has beautiful grounds, gracious hosts and tastefully decorated rooms on a 20 + acre secluded private property – then look no further. We often stay in B&B’s when we travel, looking for tangible and intangible features that we will incorporate in our own B&B when we retire. We usually find more disappointing features than features we would like to incorporate in our B&B; however, Meadowlark had no disappointing features. Our expectations about Meadowlark were exceeded from the minute we drove across the entry bridge until we left three days later after calling our offices and extending our planned stay.

Kurt and Richard make their guests feel much more like guests in their home than guests in a B&B. They are wonderful conversationalists who are worldly, well read and well versed, yet they are humble and truly interested in their guests’ perspectives. While enjoying their lovely homemade breakfasts, the conversations can cover a huge range of interesting topics. They respect their guests and their opinions, and these breakfast conversations are a wonderful way to start the day.

The pool and spa is in a beautiful, clean, enclosed area surrounded by a backdrop of cascading trees. The grounds are beautiful with fig trees, vegetable, fruit and flower gardens, horses, guinea hens, deer, dogs and cats. Guests’ dogs are welcome. We consider ourselves professional wine tasters, and when we come to Napa Valley we will now look forward not only to the wines but also to staying at Meadowlark.

We've stayed in Calistoga several times and checked this out after reading a good review. Somewhat hidden away, it was totally comfortable and relaxing. The very gracious hosts immediately make you feel at home. In addition to their extensive knowledge of the area, they provide a delicious, full breakfast and all the comforts you might want. We look forward to returning many times!

I needed a weekend away and was very lucky to stumble upon Meadowlark. The B&B allows dogs- so it was the perfect place for me and my 15 lbs cutie. I have to say that besides the warm and nicely decorated home, beautiful grounds, and tasty homemade breakfast- the owners were charming, genuine, and just lovely people.
I will 100% be back.

We are mother and daughter visitors to this wonderful country house--our experience included the sauna and pool, walks among the gardens, trees, chickens, horses, playing with Sparky, the doggie, and the peaceful ambience of the inn. We enjoyed the breakfasts with our hosts and other guests...watching Richard making breakfast with the just gathered eggs, herbs, and vegetables from their garden. Kurt is a true raconteur, and we were introduced by them to delightful nearby vineyards and dining spots. We are planning our next return and introducing it to special friends. We were content beyond our expectations at this secluded 20 acre estate just outside Calistoga. 6 rooms in 3 or 4 large cottages are well furnished and spacious, but the lovely outdoors make it unique. Kurt and his partner Richard are gracious hosts, preparing casual gourmet breakfasts and advising on the best wineries to see. The hot tub is private and there is a large pool with lounges. The name comes from the huge, sunny hillside meadow; there is a horse barn, a gorgeous wooded mountainside and a fine flower garden. A rare rain was falling on our first night so we spent the evening alone in front of the LR fireplace browsing their collection of art books and 1930s Colliers magazines. We were truly "at home" there, for half of what you might pay at some of the more famous auberges in the area. The other guests were all man/woman couples, though gays are welcome and skinny-dipping in the pools is OK. Five stars!

All the wonderful reviews for this B&B were borne out by wife's and my three day-long stay there. Kurt and Richard are wonderful hosts - gracious, warm, knowledgeable about the area, and generous. The property is beautiful. The only downside is the proximity of Petrified Forest Drive, which is a fairly busy road. Noise did not intrude, however, most of the time and certainly not at night. We have no hesitation in highly recommending this wonderful place to discerning travelers.

I'm tempted to give this place a 4.5 or 5 star review. It was an absolutely charming place to stay and the innkeepers, Richard and Kurt, extremely lovely hosts. But.... Our beautiful, comfortable, Mountainview room (with the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in outside of my own home) was so very cold at night that my husband and I both caught a bad cold while we were there. It is also true that as another reviewer pointed out, there are no curtains on the glass door or window in the bathroom. The window was not such a problem given that it faced a mountain and really the only voyeurs were one of the 30 or so chickens that roamed the grounds or one of the several cats. But the glass door faced a parking area....

In any case, there were so many positives that I would almost certainly stay again. The breakfasts RIchard made in the a.m. were quite good, incorporating fresh eggs from their hens and herbs from their garden. Kurt gave us some great restaurant recommendations (including Sol Bar). The grounds were wildly beautiful and interspersed with fig trees laden with delicious, ripe fruit. There are seven beautiful, healthy horses on the property, a lightly heated mineral water pool and (heavily chlorinated) hot tub. The pool was clothing optional. It was a bit too cold for me to find that option enticing, though there were a few nude bathers (all men with a substantial amt of insulation).

I am glad you had an absolutely beautiful time at Meadowlark. I am sorry you did not tell us you would like your room at a certain temperture. We could have done it for you so easily--very warm or very cold, it does not matter. We do this with a flip of the button.
There are bushes planted in front of the deck and railing which obstruct the view of anyone looking into the bathroom or living room-bedroom. These bushes give privacy but allow the guests to look over the bushes seeing the barn, the horses, and the mountains on the other side of the valley. The living-room bedroom French doors always had the possibility to be totally closed. Many guests leave them open knowing no one can see in. We are happy to read the guests had an absolutely charming place to stay. We are looking forward to seeing the guests here at Meadowlark.
