It is clear from other reviewers that pretty much every tour guide at Schramsberg is well informed and interesting. That is an essential when talking about the making sparking wines, because the whole process is much more complex than making regular wine. Our tour guide, Ilya, did not disappoint. My husband has done a great deal of reading on the making of champagne in France, and even he thought her information was outstanding. The original caves, the beautifully restored original home on the property, the fascinating complexity of the process - - -and of course, the tasting of the exquisite Schramsberg Sparkling Wines - - -made for one of the highlights of our trip to the Napa Valley. We have had champagnes/sparkling wines from all over the world, and Schramsberg is a tough competitor for the best of them - - -the tasting of some of their older vintages alone makes the price of this tour well worth it! Just be aware that you must reserve your tour, preferably a few days in advance.

This was very interesting to us. Kelly was our guide. She has superior knowledge of the wine making process. Again we were interested in only the sparkling wines. She gave us a nice story of the evolution of these vineyards starting with Joseph Scramsburg and going into the demise of the vineyards for several years. Then the Davies took over and made the vineyards what it is today. Their work is carried on by their sons. The caves were hand dug using picks and shovels.

It also is something you will want to do in the Napa and Sonoma valleys. Take a few tours. Go to wine tasting shops in Healdsburg, Calistoga, and St. Helena. The countryside is very nice also.

One of the original wineries, included real caves, steps to make wine and five tastings, all great. Our guide was great, handled a difficult person in a very professional style.

The entire tour and tasting was in and through their caves and exceedingly interesting and educational. We learned a lot about the process of making sparkling wines. All of the wines were fabulous and we truly loved our tour. I would truly recommend this tour to anyone interested in how sparkling wine is made and to anyone who loves sparking wine. We loved our experience and hope to come back for another visit!
