We did a day trip from sfo to napa in nov 2013, and although castello di amorosa was probably the farthest winery, we decided to go for it. It took us roughly 5 hours (with 2 large breaks in between) to reach from SFO. There is a one way toll of 5$ while going towards Napa before crossing the bridge.

Once you reach the napa valley region, all you would see is wineries for miles and miles, on both sides :). There are pretty interesting places while going along the way, but we had made our mind on the castle. And we weren't disappointed. The entrance of the castle is grand, located on the top of a small hill, with a winding road leading to it. We went on a saturday, and parking was 95% full. However we managed to get a parking slot in not more than 10 mins right near the entrance (ticket counter).

We were a group of 5 friends and decided to take the standard tour + tasting ticket of 34$ per person. I would recommend this one as it includes the underground tunnel tour. We got the next avaliable timeslot of around 2.30 pm. We wandered and clicked a few pics until then. Post that our guide for the tour arrived, and took us though the entire castle. It was roughly a 30-45 min tour. Then underground in the tunnels. Again 15-20 mins there. And finally the wine tasting session which was of course the best. We took some chocolates along with the wine (you can buy them later if you haven't bought them on the ticket counter). I personally liked the sweet wines at the end. Our guide was very nice and jovial. And we really had a fun day @ the castle.

Next time you are in Napa you have to stop by the Castello. The grounds are very cool and very reminiscent of Tuscany. Best of all the wine is better than good, and the prices are reasonable. Even though we are not avid wine drinkers we liked the wine so much we joined the wine club.

Being in Napa, you will drink plenty of great wine, but some of the best wine you will have is at the Castle! We bought more wine from here than any of our other stops in Napa. The tour is very informational and quite entertaining. For someone who is not BIG wine drinker, I found the process of the wine making process very interesting.

The tour itself was quite fun. We have a great guide who allowed plenty of time for pictures and was very generous with his pours during the tasting. Going as a couple or with a friend is your best bet so you can try a much larger variety. All in all this was the best tour and tasting we have in Napa.

Well that's what it looks like a European Castle, and it is well worth the price of admission, ( but a tip for those who don't drink, but want to see the inside, buy one ADULT ticket and the other partner can buy a child's ticked).
You will stand around outside to just watch the animals on the grounds. Then go thought the heavily carved doors and stop and catch your breath as you look at the and hand painted walls, from scenes from the Renaissances period, parkay floors and the enormous hand planked table and chairs, as well as the inlayid wood ceilings. That's just one of the many sights to see there.
Don't forget the gift shop, it is well appointed too....

What a magnificent place. Take the dungeon tour it's well worth the extra cost. The wine is great too. Our guide was Sean Lyon. He was awesome. Personable. Professionally funny. Dealt with all questions and personalities of our group like an expert. We loved this tour and will be back!
