We stayed at the cottages from referrals of friends. It was better than we imagined! Spotless, all were very friendly and polite, breakfast was fresh and you could get fresh smoothies or waffles. They even had a bottle of wine in our room.
We brought our dog and the cottage (for animals) was very clean and comfy. They had dog dishes with treats!
The location is right off the main street tucked away and walking distance to the downtown.
We wish we could of stayed longer and cannot wait to go back!!!

Our first stay here. We are relatively local, so it's a lovely treat once in awhile to drive up into Napa or Sonoma and to stay the night, rather than drive back down to SF. Check-in was smooth, our cottage (#1) was at the end and felt quite private. The bed (especially the pillow-top) are linens are great and we had a very good sleep. Love the wood floors, the fireplace and the TWO comfy chairs. Jacuzzi tub is not my fav design (upright) but welcome all the same. Shower has curtain (I prefer a door). Decor is somewhat kitschy. Luckily we got to bed pretty early because the sound of cars driving by in the morning on Lincoln was quite loud. Breakfast was OK but not great (though the smoothie was quite good). Some cut fruit, cereal and yoghurt. We tried the waffles - again OK, not great. We like Calistoga because of the mud baths; I might try another place or two before I decide on a favorite but I would be happy to stay here again.

My husband and I recently got married. Our honeymoon was spent abroad with our 18 mos. old daughter. So we were looking for a quick get away to celebrate us alone. We found Cottage Grove Inn thru Travel Zoo. We booked in Oct for a weekend travel in January. We were coming from the south, so the drive was a bit long, but once we arrived in Calistoga, the 8 hours became just a number. A beautiful, small town set in the north end of the valley. The Cottage Grove Inn snuggled in the mix, came up shortly on the left and my jaw dropped in the beauty hidden behind Lincoln Ave. Cottage Grove Inn looked everything like their pictures on their web site. But better in person. We arrived a bit early, so we able to park our car there and walk the town. They buzzed us when our room was ready. The cottage was perfect. Clean, organized, had the fireplace ready for lighting. A bottle of wine and champagne were out with a note welcoming us and congratulating us on our marriage. The bar was stocked and the music was playing. Once inside, you didn't feel like there was anyone else within 50 yards of the place. The bed was amazing, very comfortable. The bathroom had double sinks, a shower and a deep jacuzzi tub for two. The room had surround sound for the TV, DVR, Music playing. We our first evening curled up on the love seat chairs with the fire lit while watching the NFL playoffs. We then headed to the complimentary wine and cheese spread; which was amazing. You had a choice of some wines and multiple choices of cheeses. I think there was coffee and water and tea, but I didn't really pay attention to those. I was enjoying the wine. We walked in town for dinner on both of our nights. A complimentary breakfast is provided and you shouldn't miss it. It's wonderful. Plenty of food and choices of to start your day. In their common room, where you eat and drink and socialize, there are plenty of activities to keep your mind busy and plenty of flyers and coupons for wine tasting places to visit. We took the bikes, provided, and rode to the local wineries for some tasting. We also managed to get in a hike up to St. Helena mountain. Since this was our "romantic" get away, I packed a picnic with the basket the Cottage Grove Inn provides, heading to the local deli and had sandwiches made to our liking. We bought a bottle of wine from one of the wineries and ate the mountain side. I couldn't ask for a better weekend or a better place, Calistoga and the Cottage Inn, is what I;m calling a little piece of heaven in Napa Valley. If you can make the trip, do. I can't imaging anyone being disappointed, not matter what their "taste" is.

Room Tip: All cottages are the same, so anyone will do. Once inside, you don't feel like there is another...

When we began our planning for a trip to the California vineyards, we happened to get a Groupon for Cottage Grove Inn in Calistoga. We did our research, liked the convenient location at the top of Napa, with easy access to Sonoma and the Russian River area. The reviews were all fantastic, so we booked our 25 year anniversary trip with the Cottage Grove Inn this January. When we got to Calistoga we loved the quaint little town, but the most wonderful surprise was the Inn where we were staying. To say the property was, picturesque, charming, attractive, well manicured just doesn't give justice to this fantastic little find. The cottages are very well maintained. They include a working fire place with wood replaced every day at your door step. Each cottage has its own patio area, ours included a fountain and sitting area in a garden spot just off the porch. The room is set up perfect for coming home after a day of wine tasting, they have hanging wine glasses, red and white, of course the wine opener and tray for serving cheeses and fruits purchased from the local store about a block away. The sitting area had two great chairs in front of the fire place for us to enjoy our wine pairings. The refrigerator has all of the usual items to purchase, but there is more than enough room to store your purchased cheeses and fruits to keep them fresh for the next evening. The room includes a very large hot tub, a wonderfully comfortable bed as well as the usual extras, plus some that provide that special touch that makes this place fantastic. They include robes, a back pack with all the items to do a day hike with your wine, a yoga mat and roller....what more could you ask for? When you include the fantastic include breakfast and evening wine tastings, we found a place that will always be our little place in Napa!!

Ladd N,

We'll always be happy to be your "little place in Napa"! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with others. Coming from across the country is a big trip and we're so glad to hear you enjoyed every moment. Cottage Grove Inn's location is key when it comes to visiting the Napa Valley, just a walk or bike ride to the downtown area near shops and amazing restaurants, or you can always grab something at the local Cal Mart a few hundred yards away.
Thank you again and we hope to see you next time!

Take care,
Donna Johnson

CGI is located at the edge of downtown Calistoga. Very convenient as you can walk or bike to the main drag a few blocks away. 2 decent bikes w/ helmet & locks are waiting to be used just outside the entry way.

The units are single cottages lined next to each other, but far apart that provide adequate privacy. There are other cottage lodgings in the area but found these to be more picturesque! You can sit on the front porch & have a quiet moment.

Inside they are well appointed, very comfy king bed, desk area, 2 armchairs in front of a gas fireplace. Small closet w/ safe, umbrella for weather & Pilates mat available. A separate covered area had small tv & dvd player, speakers mount on wall above fireplace that was playing music when TV was not on, small fridge, wet bar, Keurig coffee, and stuff for wine drinking!

Our unit #17 was the handicap access (CA requirement mandates hotel & B&B's have one) which might explain the oversized bathroom . Separate deep jacuzzi on one side & an open tiled shower area on the other w/ open sink & a make-up corner. Space heater in bathroom came in handy on the mornings where temperature outside was 28*F. The main heater/ac unit was more than adequate for the premises as well. The cottage had a side ramp which lead to the office & a dining area well appointed w/ oversize fireplace. We noticed that most units had fire logs outside for the fireplace but maybe because our had handicap access it was on a gas timer that turned on for up to half an hour at a time,

Breakfast was provided at the main office cottage which included fancy coffee & teas, waffles, smoothies, yogurt, pastries, & variety of fruits & more.

In the evenings wine tasting was provided between 5-7 pm including several local whites & reds, different cheeses, crackers & jellies.

No matter whether you came early or late the offerings were plenty as they refilled the area often. Something that is lacking on some places where the popular stuff disappears early & not always replenished.

Donna the manager & her staff do an excellent job of providing excellent service w/ attention to detail. She runs a tight ship & it shows!

As much as we travel, we are in our mid fifties, this was actually the first time visiting the area. We have stayed away because of the pricey lodging & the hustle & bustle of the Sonoma/ Napa valley. But visiting off season which still felt busy & staying in Calistoga at the north end of the region suited us fine.

The Cottage Grove Inn was moderately priced yet the service & amenities were top notch. I would definitely
return & spend more than 2 nights:)

My wife and I took our kids (ages 5 and 3) down to Legoland for my son's birthday the week before and, as all parents can probably sympathize, we needed a vacation from our family "vacation". Luckily, I had booked a get-away for us here to celebrate our anniversary (sans kids) months before and we were able to just relax in our cozy cottage. We really appreciated all the little details that were attended to flawlessly. In the room were two bottles of wine and a personalized note congratulating us. I had forgotten to bring a charger for my phone and they were happy to provide one. The fireplace was already set so all I needed to do was just light the match. The amenities -- jacuzzi tub, pillow-top bed with down comforter -- and the peaceful environment contributed to a wonderful night's sleep; we were recharged and ready for a day of wine tasting and food sampling the next morning. I've already recommended this place to friends and would welcome a trip back myself.

I had been looking forward to sharing Cottage Grove Inn with my husband as last time I was there it was with my sister and other friends and it seemed a waste not to share the romance of the cottage.

We arrived early and were allowed to check in right away, which is always a huge plus in my book. The look on his face when we entered our cabin was worth everything-- he went so far as to comment that he could happily live there.

It just doesn't sound right to call the daily 5pm-7pm hosted gathering a wine and cheese reception. To me that conjures up pictures of cheap wine and little squares of nasty cheese served with Ritz crackers, which this certainly is not. It feels more like hors d'ouvres and wine before dinner at home with friends. Nice wine, artisan cheeses, fruit and crackers served in a lovely space. We had the opportunity to meet a very nice couple also enjoying the hospitality. It was relaxed and we found that 7pm came before we knew it.

After a nice dinner in town we walked back and lit a fire, filled the tub and spent a relaxing night in. It was so cozy.

The bed feels like a nest and is very hard to get out of in the morning. Fortunately the breakfast was enticing enough to get us up and out. Delicious quiche and waffles, espresso and fresh fruit, all included. A nice way to start the day.

I will stay here again and again. We're so happy to have located this little home away from home, staffed with friendly, helpful, thoughtful people.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms.
