We had a great time at the Blue Dolphin Inn. It is located on Moonstone beach & is across the road from the beach. There is a boardwalk on the cliffs with access to the beach & it stretches roughly about a mile and a half. It is located about 10 minutes from Hearst Castle & minutes away from Main st. Cambria. The hotel has soft water which was an added feature. They have a friendly staff, clean rooms & very confortable beds. I normally struggle with hotel beds but not this time. My wife was very happy with the Inn & we are planning another trip in the fall. The location is great for sunsets. On our visit it was windy & cold for the first day but the other 2 days were nice. Overall the whole experience was great.

We reserved the room thru hotels.com, got in late after driving from SF. Everything was as expected and better - the website really does not do the inn any justice - Beautiful room with king size bed, great bath and bathroom, lovely hostess, quaint tea room. We're just sorry we couldn't stay more than the night we did.

This Inn is the most beautiful and friendly place I have ever stayed. Our rooms were First Class all the way. Comfort and peacefulness abounded at the Blue Dolphin. The staff was friendly and helpful. We highly recommend the Blue Dolphin and look forward to another visit.

We stayed in a partial Ocean View room and it was just as good as a full view. It is worth the extra $20 to upgrade from a no-view room. They are right on the beach, and Cambria has walking boardwalk paths along the coast to enjoy seals, surf, and fresh air.

The rooms are decorated nicely, they have big comfy mattresses and gas fireplaces for atmosphere. We had a nice table and chairs in our viewing windows; very pleasant. Could see the ocean from the bed too. The hotel continental breakfast includes make-your-own waffles, cereal and yogurt, standard sweets and juice, and the tea room is open until 5pm or so for hot beverages all day. We had a microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker, hair dryer, and nice-smelling shampoo/lotion/loofah items.

Dining: eat at Linn's! The main restaurant is still recovering from a fire, but they have a cafe in the meantime. The food is great, nice people, outdoor dining area in the back. Try the pot pies. (Then stop in the store for those little take-home individual pies. You can enjoy them while watching the ocean in your room later on!)

If you get lazy like we did because the room is so nice, try Woodies pizza for delivery: they deliver until 10pm and have salads and beer as well.

There are hiking paths a short drive up the way, look for the campgrounds (the hotel has local maps). We have seen groups of wild turkeys and all kinds of critters back there. Stay on the paths though, we went off the beaten trails and came across a stripped deer carcass (obviously a mountain lion attack).

Check out the galleries in town, esp. Seekers glass gallery (National glass artists). Avoid the Moonstone restaurant that is a few doors from the Blue Dolphin. Average service/food.

Enjoy the Blue Dolphin!

We stayed here in early August. I loved this place!! We stayed in 3 different hotels during or CA vacation and this was the most comfortable.

The front desk was very helpful. The rooms were very clean and well appointed. They have great toiletries for use. The bed was a pillowtop mattress and was so comfy. The sheets were soft and we had lots of pillows. The room was a desent size. The inn has a very cozy feel and feels more like being in a nice guestroom.

The breakfast was awesome. We got there early and enjoyed fruit, pastries, and fresh waffles. In the afternoon they offer snacks but we missed these. The times posted for bfast and afternoon snacks in the room book are off and that messed our schedule up just a bit.

The beach is just across the street and is beautiful (and cold). We enjoyed spending our afternoon at Hearst Castle. We at dinner at The Wild Ginger Cafe on Main Street. It was a neat little bistro.

Would highly recommend this place and cant wait to return one day....

Looking forward to a pleasant stay in Cambria, we booked a room with fireplace at this 18 room inn and were assigned an upstairs corner room with partial ocean view and given a confirmation number by the person taking the reservation on site. Upon arriving around noon we were told the room we had reserved has been given to someone else and the only room left available was room 109 on the ground floor, the worst room in the house as freely admitted by the desk clerk. No apologies, just the admonition: you should have said you don't want to be moved. I guess it was our fault. While the room was appointed nicely with decorator touches and a gas log fire place, it was bordered by the tea room, a hallway on two sides, and the front entry porch on the third side with our windows facing facing onto the porch and the driveway. The next morning we were jolted out of sleep by noisy activities in the hallway with laughter that just would not want to end and rather loud conversation. Upon looking what the source might be, there were two tables with chairs set up in the narrow hallway, and happy travelers were noisily having breakfast. The thin walls separating us from the tea room/hallway did nothing to muffle the noise. To top it off, smokers were gathering in front of our window, forcing us to close the curtains to get some privacy. Needless to say, we left certain never to book a room here again. In all fairness, a stay in another room may have provided a different experience and a better review than ours.

The website for this inn gave a very accurate description. Matter of fact, the picture on their website was the same room we stayed in. The room was a little small; I like to call it "cozy" instead. The bathroom was huge. We lucked out with the weather-it was high 70's-low 80's. We had breakfast on our patio directly overlooking the ocean. We enjoyed the sunsets from there too. Access to the rooms is very easy-we parked right outside our door. Our bed was a little old, but was told they are replacing them. A nice retreat as you can hear the waves crashing from your room.
