Moonstone Beach. What curiosity that brings to mind. The Fogcatcher, an even more intriguing name. The FogCatcher Inn has been our favorite special get-away. Doesn't seem to matter what room we end up in, they are all so nice. The dark sands of the beach just across the road provide a means for long quiet walks and the sounds of the surf allow one to get lost in thought. Being right around the corner from the quaint villege of Cambria, it also provides a chance to shop or dine at will. The FogCatcher provides is a place to get away from it all or to get out and see it all. We love it there and will certainly be back again.

Room Tip: Call direct for special requsts.

We had a big upstairs ocean view room. The room was large, the view was okay -- but like all of the hotels on Moonstone Beach it is separated from the boardwalk by the road. Nevertheless, it was as easy access to the beach as you can get. The boardwalk along the beach is very nice and worth a stroll. The room was clean, but my wife thought the decor was odd in that the colors and furnishings seemed to be thrown together. Still, it was a comfortable stay. The staff was friendly and the breakfast filling. There is a small outdoor pool but we did not use it. The room was a bit pricey, but not unusual for the location. I would stay there again.

Stayed at this hotel for a few days while we explored the area. Upon arrival, the hotel management was both prompt and cordial. They also seemed knowledgable of the area as we had specific questions for them. The room was a good size, clean, and the bed was comfortable. The room had a nice view of the beach, and there was a table and chairs to enjoy the view from a window. The breakfast was good: eggs, sausage, waffles, pastries, fruit, oatmeal, coffee and juice. The hotel offers free wifi, but it did not work that well from the room. We enjoyed our stay at the fogcather, and would stay there again.

The room was large and clean with a view of the ocean from the front door; better yet, we could hear the ocean all night. The room had a gas fireplace and large bathroom. There is a nice boardwalk across the street with steps down to the beach. The breakfast room was large and the selection of food was varied. Just a short drive to the town of Cambria which had nice restaurants and shops.

I booked this room based off of trip advisor reviews and was disappointed. We arrived on a Sunday evening - place could not have been more than 1/2 full. We were sort of bummed when we were given a room overlooking trash cans.

The next disappointment came when I turned on the lights. The room was cute enough but you could hardly tell with the lights on. We stayed at six places over an 11 day road trip and all used CFL light bulbs; however, all the other places understood the importance of lighting. The Fogcatcher used CFL's with bright white lamp shades and our room had grey walls. I really felt like I was in a dingy office or hospital room - it just felt like icky floresent lights. No atmosphere at all. Depressing.

The breakfast was good enough - I liked the waffle maker and the location is really nice across the street from the beach - but their are many less expensive options nearby - all across the street from the beach.

The bed was very comfy - so that was a plus.

All in all - the atmosphere of the room was really the biggest issue I had.

The FogCatcher Inn works hard to give every guest the best experience possible, from check in to check out. Our rooms are decorated in the style of an English Cottage and our guests love the decor, colors and amenities. We do use ecologically sound practices such as CFL bulbs, our in room recycling program and are part of Project Planet for water/detergent reduction. Our guests consider us a great value, with our complimentary hot breakfast, free bottled water, cookies, coffee, newspapers, parking and more. Our guests love us, we love them and our reviews are proof!

The FogCatcher Inn isn't a 5 star resort, but it's a perfectly lovely and comfortable cottage-type environment. We love to stay here when visiting the central coast. The breakfast is wonderful and the staff is so friendly. If your budget can afford the ocean view rooms, go for it, as they are a little nicer than the garden view rooms.
