Booked this Inn for an overnight stop before Hearst Castle. Was guided by previous reviews on Trip Advisor. What an excellent property. We needed a room that could accommodate 2 adults and 2 teenagers. We booked two queen room, which was more than adequate as we were concerned with space regarding our luggage, but there was ample and we were not falling over each other. It was clean and comfortable, and lovely Philosophy Bathroom amenities. Checkin was friendly and informative, with local area and restaurant information. Easy walking distance to Moonstone Bar and Grill (have also reviewed). Complimentary breakfast from 0700 in Breakfast room. Very clean and good variety of options. Ample parking. Overall this was a great place to stay with a very reasonable room rate.

Our original plan was to go camping in Big Sur, but due to weather (30-70% rain all weekend). My husband and I decided to check-in instead. After doing some research, Fogcatcher Inn was the best choice. A charming pet-friendly inn with all the amenities (including full breakfast service) and a few steps to the beach! It was a treat to check-in to a garden view room with a toasty fireplace waiting for us. We will be returning again.

This was our first stay with this hotel. And I have to say it was a great experience. The staff was very helpful and accommodating with our needs and request. The rooms are very clean. They have a fresh full breakfast the next morning also.

We just spent 3 nights in their wonderful 2 Bedroom Suite. Two private bedrooms and full baths. Very comfortable living area with full kitchen. Perfect for 2 couples or a family. Patio outside your door is perfect for watching the ocean with a glass of wine. Additionally, the staff was exceptional. Dinner recommendations every evening were perfect! Overall a great place to stay to visit the Hearst Castle, Cambria and the local wineries.

Cambria and the California coast is breathtaking. Having read the reviews of other travelers and the rating we booked an ocean facing room. Room 121. Our check in was great and the nice individual was very helpful in recommending a local place for dinner. Frankly, the location is great and the outside appearance of the property is charming. Our room was worn and badly in need of some TLC. The toilet seat was pealing, the lamp shades were worn and dirty, the bed was very soft and sagging and many places needed either paint or new wallpaper. Not what one would expect from a four or five star rating. Breakfast is included and served in a very unappealing room, in desperate need of a make over. The breakfast includes a buffet of yogurt, cereals, waffles, toast, scrambled eggs, meat and oatmeal. Tried the oatmeal and it was really runny and fair at best. Overall even though the breakfast is included....go somewhere else. As vellet2014 says "The place was not what was promised" and I agree.

Thank you for taking the time to review us. We value all of our guest’s opinions and are always looking for ways to improve. I am sorry you felt the Old English theme of our rooms was not what you were looking for. Thank you for bringing to my attention some of the maintenance issues you experienced and we will be replacing those immediately for future guests. We are scheduled for a full renovation later this year. We are very excited for the upcoming changes and know that you will be too. Please feel free to reach out to me personally to discuss your stay.

My wife and I spent two nights at the Fog Catcher Inn in Cambria in late December, 2013. The accommodations were more than adequate, and we really liked the fireplace, which provided the gas heat for our room. We paid extra for a view of the surf and ocean across the street. This view, which includes a view of the setting sun on the ocean, is spectacular and well worth the extra money. One can cross the street and take the steep path down to the beach, or one can walk along the coast on boardwalks up high and look down at the beautiful rocky areas and at the occasional seals. The Inn serves a good hot breakfast, cafeteria style, but does not have a restaurant. Restaurants with ocean views are within easy walking distance, or one can take a short drive into town.

The elephant seal rookery is located on the coast just 12 miles north of Cambria, and is well worth the visit. Cambria is a quaint small resort town and a number of people retire here, although my wife I would find it too isolated. We greatly enjoyed our stay, and would come here again.

Room Tip: An ocean view room is worth the extra price

So excited to hear you had a chance to visit the elephant seal rookery. Many of the seal pups were born in January and February so it is a great time of year to visit Cambria. Thank you for taking the time to leave a great review. James Davison, General Manager-FogCatcher Inn

Just a wonderful seaside motel with friendly staff and fantastic location. This our second visit and we just love it, you won't be disappointed and the location is perfect for a walk along the seashore, shopping in Cambria, visiting the Hearst Castle or taking a day trip into wine. Rooms are nice and cozy with easy access for us older folk.
