The Sea Otter Inn is old and in desperate need of remodeling. When was the last time you had a 400 pound TV in a resort room. If you've read about the heaters in other reviews, it's all true. Do yourself a favor. Turn the heater way down and use your blankets. The heater igniting will wake you up every 15 or 20 minutes. Breakfast is nothing to write home about either--store-bought bagels and mini-muffins. But the beds are really comfortable. Once you turn off the heater, you'll sleep like a baby.
When you check in you'll get a map of Cambria. IT IS NOT TO SCALE. It shows a restaurant, the Moonstone, very close to the hotel. Seeing that, you might think all the other restaurants and shops are close by. They are not. It's a good 1+ mile, one-way trip into the northern part of Cambria, and another 1+ mile hike into the southern part. The southern part is the best for restaurants and shops. We walked the first night, but took our car the second when we went to southern Cambria.
It's close to Hearst Castle. This is a must see for anyone in the area. Truly fabulous.
We would stay here again because we know about the heat and the map. A little updating could make it a real nice place to be. Don't change the beds, they were great. Everything else needs to go.More
