My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here. We came early and set out our folding chairs. We were second in line for the first seating. We sat for about 75 minutes enjoying a bottle of wine and looking at the ocean. We chatted with other people and it was quite the social event. Once inside we got a table with an ocean view. The servers brought us bread and we paid $.35 a piece for two bottles of water. There is a severe water shortage in Cambria and we felt the price was fair. Our server was great. We enjoyed some clam chowder which was very good. We had the shrimp and scallop scampi and it was amazing. The only thing I was not crazy about was my dessert . I had the lemon tart and the crust was hard as a rock. I am guessing I just got a bad one because people usually rave about it.

This was our 2nd meal at the Sea Chest--both times were because we didn't want to drive into downtown Cambria. We won't make that mistake again!

They don't accept reservations so you need to arrive very early or very late if you don't want to wait for ages. They now have a nice outdoor fire pit to wait by, however. They also don't accept credit cards but have an ATM in their (beer and wine only) bar area but two out of our group's three ATM cards wouldn't work in it. Prices are tourist-trap high but some may like their very large servings of food.

Their menu is very old-school and not particularly healthy or mindful of dietary needs or sustainable fish (for instance they don't carry gluten free beer and suggested Budweiser, when asked about it). Our clam chowder was super salty but mahi mahi was not highly flavored at all.

Service stared out only perfunctorily friendly but improved slightly as our meal wore on. The young man working the wine bar said he "didn't know anything about wine" but did offer to let us taste what he had open when we asked him for a recommendation.

Like all local restaurants, they are currently charging for bottled water but it was very inexpensive (35 cents?!).

Unfortunately, not good enough for us to recommend and we won't be back.

This is a busy restaurant which doesn't take bookings, so be prepared to wait for a table. However, the wait is worthwhile with delicious local seafood served at this restaurant. The service is good with obliging staff and the prices won't break the budget. Deserts are also worth a consideration. yum.

The sting of having to wait for a table was taken away by sitting outside with a drink by the fire pit? We enjoyed delicious clam chowder and very fresh, beautifully cooked swordfish steak. Simple, but delicious served in a busy and friendly restaurant with a great sea view.
