“Went back and had another great experience!”
Reviewed 15 December 2012

Such a beautiful setting. Ocean veiws from our hotel room, a lovely stroll along the ocean cliffs just outside our door. We took a late morning stroll with our friends and the views were nothing short of glorious. We had to pinch ourselves to know it was real.

The room was clean and cozy and the staff incredibly friendly, just like the last time we were there. This is affordabe paradise. We had a wonderful mini-vacation!

Room Tip: Play a few dollars more for an ocean view. Worth it!

The motel row of Moonstone Beach, is what it is. 1960's motor courts trying to keep up with the times. However, the Best Western Firestone Inn is well worth the cost for an upgraded oceanfront room. You get a small patio so you can gaze at the gorgeous ocean view.
Highway 1 backs up to the whole Moonstone Motel row, so oceanfront is key for the ambience, if you can.
Clean, quiet, cozy, and even romantic. Pleasant staff. Decent breakfast included.
Can't go wtong if you look for a casual and affordable stay right on a very special coastal location

..and nothing more! The Hotel is located perfectly! Right across the street starts the Walking Way on which you can walk for Hours on some wooden Boardwalks. One can see Squirrels and Sealions, Birds and all other kinds of Animals. But getting back to the Hotel makes you feel bad. Its way overpriced! Check In is not that friendly, Rooms are old, used and not looking to the Beach - as a Diamond Member i asked for an Upgrade and got a Room where you can see a small part of the Sea - thanks a lot! There is not much to do around without a car - the Town is only to be reached by Car..

I would not stay there again!

Room Tip: Try to get a Room facing the Seaside!

Justin F, General Manager at Fireside Inn on Moonstone Beach, responded to this review, 6 December 2012
We appreciate this reviewer's comments regarding their stay. It seems they enjoyed the beautiful setting of Moonstone Beach which is one of the best on the California coast. We are sorry they felt the complimentary upgrade given was not sufficient. I would have liked the opportunity to speak with this guest while they stayed with us so I could have seen if there was anything further we could do. We pride ourselves on superior customer service at the BW PLUS Fireside Inn, so, any concerns about the staff not being friendly will be dealt with promplty.

You can't get any closer to the boardwalk for Moonstone Beach that at the Fireside Inn. Terrific location, easy on and off Highway 1. Wonderful office staff, incredibly helpful, even showed us how to determine if an unseeming rock really was a moonstone. I'll leave that for you to find out when you visit.
The room was nice (139), tucked away at the far end of the hotel, no patio, but that was okay, because the room was VERY QUIET without the noise of cars coming and going (as you would have with a patio room) I didn't see the oceanfront rooms, but they appeared nice with patios out front facing the ocean and weren't that much more than the standard room. Our room had a fireplace (switch on) and unlike others who wrote in, our DID put out a lot of heat. The bed was very comfy. It was nice to see that they gave you a trash can and a recycle can in the room. The bathroom amenities (shampoo, etc.) smelled nice. Plenty of towels, nice robes in the closet. Refrigerator and coffee maker provided. Ours had a little love seat and a chair that faced the fireplace.
Breakfast was fine (it's free, cmon) I actually loved the waffles, skip the eggs, nice fresh bagels, all types of danishes, toast, cereal, oatmeal, juice, coffee, etc. Breakfast room only seats about 16 at the most, but there is plenty of seating outside around the pool and on the patio, Also, there are trays if you wish to just take it back to your room.
I would stay here again, for the location. It's basic, but nice enough to feel like you're on vacation. Enjoy!

I had a nice relaxing 2 night stay. Awesome comfortable room. Awesome location. Only negative was the kitchen room with the make-your-own-waffles with decaf & light blend coffee that opens at 7am. The standard in room coffee is what it is; brown water in a machine that makes you wonder if they cleaned it using the previous guests old towels. Probably not true but it does make you wonder though. A sunrise beach walk will have to be done without coffee. Nothing special about the generic breakfast snacks. Oh the brown bananas, that was special, they must be good, there was plenty of them. Now I miss Hostess Twinkies. But, no big deal, breakfast in town or nearby Paso Robles or Morro Bay is what I look forward to.

Our romantic escape was a great one. The hot tub was popular with the children. Hey, at least I had a fireplace and a locked door. Peace out homefry!

Room Tip: Pay more than the lowest price, duh. Remember, you get what you pay for. Reference: read the bad r...

Having a surplus of "points" in my Best Western account, and planning a jaunt down California Highway 1, I looked for places to stay in the San Luis Obispo area. I noted that the Fireside Inn point requirement was a third more than the other B/Ws in the area, so I booked there, thinking that it might be something special. YES, it was!
Cambria is a tiny California beach town that somehow survives on fishing, farming and tourism. "Motel Row" is a mile-long collection of one-story bungalow motels that all seem to do well, despite the fact that they are all competing for the same tourist dollar.
The Fireside Inn is one of these. but what ambiance! Their ten oceanfront rooms, with king beds, fireplace, and patio (complete with hummingbirds, sparrows, seagulls and the occasional brown pelican fly-by) are worth the premium price. If not available, or affordable, the other rooms are equally well-appointed. It is a 2-minute walk to the beach, to view the harbor seals, sea otters, gulls, oyster-catchers (with their red beaks), and other coastal fauna.
Worth a visit.

Room Tip: Rooms 101-104; 126-128; 131-133.
