“more adventurous than you think”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

We enjoyed every activity but you better be a bit fit to do them. This is not everyday activities or amusement park stuff where you can flip the switch and the rapids stop. People were dumped out of their tubes, some horses have minds of their own, and zip lining you have to pull yourself up on to the cable. Nobody was hurt, but some had small children and the parents were quite worried. We had a blast but then again we were all adults and just had to be cautious. A great time was had by all and you felt very accomplished after successfully completing the day.

“Incredible family experience ”
Reviewed 7 July 2014 via mobile

There are so many options for tours here. Im very happy we selected the one we did... horseback riding to Rincon de la Vieja national park and back, 2 hour tour in the national park, and swimming at a beautiful waterfall. All with our own guide Francisco. He was very knowledgeable sharing information about volcano, wildlife, birds, insects, plant and forest life. He kept the interest of all of us even our teenage boys. They now have a deeper appreciation of our environment. Because of this eco tour. We saw howler monkeys, white faced monkeys, blue morpho butterflies, deer, leaf cutter ants, many birds. Of course we saw the valcano mud pots too. It was 5 1/2 hours. You can choose to take shuttle instead of horse riding. Should be fairly good physical condition. Horses were well taken care of and well behaved. We also enjoyed meeting this very nice man (from Nicaragua) who runs the store close to the entrance of the national park. He makes pretty jewlery, which I bought. Thanks to Francisco for an experience we will never forget.

we spent our last day in Costa Rica here. Our Economy Rental car contract included a buy one adventure day pass get one free, after 9 awesome days in Costa Rica we figured we would end our honeymoon with a adrenaline high. We visited on a Monday where the Rincon de la vieja park is closed, however when we explained to the gate guard that we were going to Hacienda Guachipelin he let us through. Out of all the things we did while in Costa Rica....this was our least favorite. However I do believe a good deal of your experience here depends on the "group" of people you get assigned to do the tour with. Our group was 26 people and for each activity you have to wait through all 26 people. As a lifelong equestrian we were pleased to see the horses here looked healthy (unlike most horses in Costa Rica), however the ride was pretty short and boring and was geared towards first time riders which is understandable....(however it would've been nice to have a more challenging ride for experienced riders.) The river tubing was fun! the scenery and rapids were awesome....it was a thrilling and unique experience. At the end carrying the heavy tube up the steep hill is quite a workout. Next we had lunch.....Lunch was awesome!!! The buffet and service was probably the best we had while in Costa Rica so 4 starts for the food. After lunch it was off to the zip-lining. We have zip lined before in the US....but we did not enjoy this zip line trip at all....there was a hurried, rushed feel to it, and it didn't leave you feeling safe and secure. The repelling seemed like a accident waiting to happen so we didn't take part in that. The zip line platforms were crowded and uncomfortable....we were glad when it was over. The absolute best part of this day was the oxen and oxcart that were there when we returned from zip lining....the guy let me sit on one of the oxen and it was such a unique once in a lifetime moment! We did drive ourselves to the hot springs and looked around....it was pretty but we didn't soak in any. All in all we would have much rather spent the day at the beach or exploring on our own. This place has a overall feel of being herded around like a bunch of 2nd graders on a field trip. If your brining a large group you would probably enjoy this more....but for a couple or individual being herded around from activity to activity with a large group of strangers isn't very enjoyable.

“Tubing was amazing”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

On this tour, which we arranged through where we were staying, we did horseback riding, white water tubing, zip lining, and then hiked out to the hot springs/mudbaths. Horseback riding, to me, was awful. It was soooo hot, the horses were exhausted, I felt uncomfortable and bad for my tiny horse the whole time I was on it. We went in the dry season so the paths we walked were very dry and dusty, and there was just so many people, so many inexperiences riders like myself crammed on to these tiny uneven rocky paths, and the horses would try and push in front of each other or would take off galloping and an inexperienced rider holding on to a tiny flimsy rope would really have no idea how to control the horse. I will admit I'm kind of scared of horses to begin with, but this part was NOT enjoyable. Thank god the rest of the tour more than made up for it. The whitewater tubing was a little bit scary, but it was exhilarating and fun and awesome and I wanted to go again the second we got off. the absolute high point of the trip!!!! This was my first time zip lining so it was definitely fun too! But by the 14th course or so I was hot and tired and a little bit ready to quit because we were starving. We finally got lunch which was delicious! Then it was off to the hot springs which were way cool and very very enjoyable. All in all it was a great trip! But skip the horseback riding if thats not your thing!

“Tubing was awesome, but zip-lining was just okay”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

So for this tour you will start with the zip-lining, which in my opinion sucked. I went zip-lining in San Luis and it way 10x better because Guachipelin was hot, not particularly nice to look at, and the harness was very uncomfortable. I recommend wearing longer pants for this portion. One thing that was unique about this zip-lining was that there is a repelling and rock climbing portion. Next you ride horses to the river where you will go tubing, which is fun. They don't really tell you how to ride the horse, but don't worry you don't really need to know anything because the horses know where to go. Be warned, though, they all liked to start running at the same time and it's a bit unnerving at first, but you will be fine! You may also want to wear long pants for this part. The tubing was AMAZING. Best part of the trip by far! You are in the river for probably over an hour and there are a lot of rapids and a few big drops. There is a stop where you can rope swing into a deep part in the river and jump off a cliff. We really enjoyed that. The lunch is pretty good, its a buffet style with a lot of different things to try. The mud bath and hot springs are short, but relaxing. All-in-all it was a pretty good trip.
