Tours include transportation from Guanacaste beaches and Liberia. Only the north side of the Rincon is in the rainforest and has blue volcanic rivers, the “emerald green” natural mineral hot springs and abundant tropical wildlife. You’ll be entering a ”paradise on earth” and will have an adventure of a lifetime.Rincon de la Vieja is based out of Blue River Resort & Hot Springs and offers three tours. Two are combo-tours that feature either an adventure to the incomparable blue volcanic rivers and majestic waterfalls by horse or car. Or choose the canopy tour, through rainforest, waterfalls and ending with a Tarzan Swing. These combine with a visit to Blue River Resort & Hot Springs. The third tour option is to spend the day at Blue River Resort & Spa to experience the the hot springs pools, botanical gardens, butterfly gardens, mud bath and natural sauna, the Spa, gym and more. We pick up early morning and deliver you home in time for dinner.

“Tropical Paradise”
Reviewed 2 July 2014 via mobile

This is our second visit and Blue River Resort and Spa continues to improve. The food is excellent and the staff are very friendly and courteous. The gardens are spectacular and these are the top hot spring pools in Costa Rica. Contrary to what one person said they do cook with real eggs and this trip they the had a buffet set up for breakfast included in the price of the room. Just around the corner to the left of the resort is a rustic bed and breakfast ... Cecelia cooks wonderful home cooked meals for about $10 per person for complete meal with drink and it is all Organic ( stop by and order two to three hours ahead to let them know you're coming because they harvest the vegetables prior to the meal...(cash only - dollars or Cr money). Blue River has its own horses and guides and the spectacular rivers running near the resort can be reached by horse or SUV. Rent a GPS when you get to Costa Rica: they're very accurate and you will absolutely need one... your Google or Apple maps will not work there correctly. The roads are bumpy and that's what adds to the mystique of the trip because you are running around dirt roads to get up to the resort. You are smart to rent a four wheel drive. Because you're up in the mountains it is rather cool both in the summer or winter as opposed to the heat of Liberia... And you're only about 50 kilometers up in the mountains so its not more than an hour or an hour and a half of slow driving. People there are good drivers as opposed to Mexico City or Atlanta/NY or Rome. The flora and fauna and birds are absolutely amazing. It is summer there in December and we did not have any bugs on the December trip but on this June trip we highly recommend that you bring bug spray and anti itch cream. The gardens at blue river resort are spectacular and second to none and the butterfly gardens are fantastic. They have their own hot springs source and the four pools are tiled and have waterfalls and they are surrounded by tropical plants and flowers. This is a small resort and so you do not have the feel of a big busy loud place like they have on the beach.

“Rude owner who does not value his guests”
Reviewed 22 February 2014 via mobile

We originally planned to stay at Blue River for 7 days, but quickly realized that there was not enough to do at the resort to occupy us for 7 whole days. On top of that , the restaurant and anything else being sold at the resort was completely overpriced. Our first night we spent $70 for two at dinner. All we ordered was a bottle of wine and two entrees. Bottles of water cost over $2 and there was not a grocery store close enough to avoid this price. When we arrived at the resort they told us that there was an American phone line that we could use free of charge to call home. We thought this was such a great amenity. However, the second time we attempted to use he phone was a show of how little the owner respects his guests. My mother was on the phone with my father and the owner of the hotel rudely came on the line and told her to hang up because he needed the line. She was shocked by his abrupt manner and hung up the phone. The owner never apologized or even brought up the incident with us. His rudeness really turned us off to the hotel. Even when we told the front desk of our plans to leave early, the owner refused to refund our money or waive any of the excess charges that were charged to our room. His greedy and pompous demeanor ruined our whole blue river experience.

“Average, good food, hot pools not so good...”
Reviewed 7 February 2014

We drove 2.5 hours from Tamarindo to get there, be aware, road is very good except the last 20KM on a dirt/stone road. Need to have a SUV, you will damaged your car, or it will take 2 hours for the last 20 KM.

Setting is really nice, weather was perfect, we took a volcanic mud bath, really fun. Plenty of humming birds, really cool!

Food was really good at the restaurant, but the hot pools were really green and not clean... That was the main attraction, so I was not really happy.

They need to clean them... So for the people thinking this is normal, this is not. I went to 2 thermal resorts in La Fortuna (near Arenal) in 2009, and the pools were super clean. Also went to Caldas Novas in Brazil in 2008 in a thermal resort and the pools also were super clean.

Staff was really nice, but if you go for the thermal pools, go somewhere else.

We thank you for review our resort and the many kind word. We read all reviews carefully and try not to interfere by letting readers make their own decision another person’s opinion. But when there is an “untruth” about our hot springs, I know its time to step in. Our hot springs are one of the few in Costa Rica the world that are real and of the highest quality. By way of comparison most of the ones found in La Fortuna are not. See the article on our website about our water quality. Indeed, the water is a greenish color. The pools are cleaned daily and one, each day is emptied, power-washed and refilled daily. The hot springs bubble up from the ground within the botanical gardens, are pumped through pool filters and cooled before entering the pools. The hot springs exits the pools through a canal that return it back to a hot springs creek. Its our jewel and we think its the best you’ll find anywhere.

“Great Tubing”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

10 of us went aging from 6 - 55. The tubing was a little too intense for the 6, 9, 11 year olds. But was great for everyone else. The water was a beautiful Blue. Zip lining amazing in front of the waterfall. So much better than any place else to go..
