So, I have mixed emotions. Had my husband not gotten sick on our honeymoon (from the FOOD. a bacteria that added him to the list for the DPH when we got back. Campylobacter, check it out - from poor food handling), I would have given this place 5 stars. We spent 5 nights there, and he didn't end up getting sick until the last night, and subsequently spent the rest of our honeymoon in bed at the Westin at Playa Conchal. HOWEVER, this place is unique, has amazing adventures and tours, and you are literally surrounded by paradise. Prior to getting sick, we went horseback riding up the mountain and zip-lined down (if you don't zip line here there is ZERO point in going - it is the most incredible experience), we did the ATV jungle tour, and went white water rafting. We did a couples massage (highly recommend), and the volcanic mud, thermal springs, and steam rooms were really cool. You end up going to bed super early, as dinner is over by 10, and getting up early too (helllllo monkeys). Talk about off the grid - the wifi barely works (I think we got it one day), and road there is about an hour from the airport (and mostly not paved, hope you don't get car sick). Service was excellent. Private villas were too. And come on people, brush up on your Spanish. We barely spoke English there ("multilingual" is a loose term). Like I said, had he not gotten sick - it would've gotten more stars, but it definitely ruined the rest of our honeymoon. :-/

One of the best places in the North Pacific of Costa Rica. One of the best properties located in the volcano area and surrounded by an amazing nature. Once you get there you realize you are in the middle of the jungle. The adventure activities are amazing and the zip lining is one of the most amazing canopy tours in Guanacaste. The staff, service, food and facilities are more than excellent. This place is the perfect place for relaxation and adventure! Highly recommended!

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in early March as part of an Air Canada Vacations Ecotour. The last 30 minutes of the ride from the Liberia airport is quite bumpy as the road is not paved.

We arrived at the hotel late-afternoon. We checked in and were driven to our room in one of their trucks. The villas are spread out over a large area, with several large trees, bushes and flowers dotting the landscape. Our room was a decent size and did had a balcony, although there was no seating. It had have a table and chairs at the front entry, which was nice to sit out in the evening.

After checking in, we ventured down to the pool area. We were surprised to see that we were the only one's there! The pool bar is a little dated, but it did the trick. Beer prices were decent, although the signature drink prices were a little pricey. We walked around the resort, checking out the mud baths and sauna, both of which we took advantage of. It was pretty amazing that the sauna is entirely natural steam. There is also a pathway that runs from the sauna area, along the back side of the resort through the woods and comes out near the mud baths. A nice stroll. Lots opportunity to see monkey's around the resort. The trees near the mud baths was a popular hang out for them, and we spent a lot of time here listening to them and taking some photos.

The restaurant food was very good, although it was expensive. It have you the fine dining experience, which was great for the length of our stay, but it you were staying for a longer period of time, another option may be nice.

We booked the horseback ride excursion, which was fantastic. We were on tour for nearly 3 hours, strolling through the mountain area just outside of the main resort. Highly recommend this excursion.

The resort was very quiet and secluded. The grounds are gorgeous and the staff very friendly. If you're looking for a relaxing get-away away from it all, this is the place for you. If you're looking for something more upbeat, I would not recommend that you stay at this resort. After the dinner hour, there is very little activity, other than taking in the amazing beauty of the resort.

This hotel is in a beautiful location and the rooms are very nice. It was different to wake up to the sound of howler monkeys. The dinner is also worth mentioning, it was one of the best meals I had while in Costa Rica. The canopy adventure is amazing and worth while.

We loved this property. The grounds are beautiful, the hot springs and pool area are lovely. The service was top notch. The food at the restaurant was excellent. When we arrived it was low season and there weren't many people at the hotel so they upgraded us to a bungalow and we loved it!

The ATV trip to the waterfall was excellent. Two in our group had never been on an ATV before and our guide drove the machines through any tough spots for those of us not comfortable with steep hills and so forth. The waterfalls were very nice!

I would have given the place 5 stars but for a few issues: the WiFi only worked in the reception area, not in the rooms nor the restaurant. The TV in the room (and that of our friends) didn't work. The coffee maker had the wrong type of coffee for the machine and hence didn't work. However, we didn't choose this hotel to watch TV or play on the internet. So the few times we had to do email it was ok to go to the lobby.

As part of the Monkey Tours Costa Rica & Nicaragua trip my husband and I stayed here with our group and did all of the activities on the property. When we arrived in the afternoon we had a delicious lunch buffet of typical Costa Rican foods in an open-aired room. We then went horseback riding up to the zipline area, which ends back at the resort. The horseback riding was a bit crowded with horses bumping into everyone's legs, but the ziplining was fantastic. The guides allowed you to try different positions like "the superman" or "upside down" as long as they went with you. I've gone ziplining before in Costa Rica and have never been able to do something so adventurous! The mud bath is really just a few raised clay pots that you stick your hands into. After it dries you wash it off in a shower then jump into hot springs which look like a hot tub. The pool is nice from a distance, but when you get close it's very dirty and there were lots of ants crawling all over the pool bar. The rooms were very spacious, it feels like you have your own villa with a large deck (no furniture on them), and they were also very clean. The resort is secluded and throughout the night you can hear many different birds and monkeys. There is only one restaurant to eat at for dinner and the service was quite slow, with average food.

My family and friends and I returned to Borinquen for another stay, and we were delighted. We jammed in as many activities as we could in our one-night stay...a dip in the boiling hot tubs, nice dinner, ATV's and ziplining in the morning (plus the horseback ride on the way up to zipline). The included breakfast menu has three options, so a few of us ended up ordering off the regular menu. Dinner is very good, but very expensive...actually might have been the most expensive place we've been to in Costa Rica. There is no other option on the property unless you eat earlier at the poolside snackbar, which usually closes by 6. The pool is beautiful, but it's not really hot there at that altitude, at least at the times of year I've been there (Jan-Feb and April-May), so the pool has been almost deserted both years I've been there. There is a swim up bar with good drinks, but the bartender isn't always there. The mineral mud is self-service and fun for everyone. I didn't even get Dengue Fever there this time! We'd definitely go back!

Room Tip: Yes, there is a golf-cart service to drive you up and down to your bungalow (which is for sure UPHIL...
