The front awning of La Posada reflects its problem: in tatters and getting worse. Perhaps it was okay 2 or 3 years ago when the previous owner (a German woman) ran it, but the current on-site owner is a retired engineer who has no background in hospitality. The place looks like it's going to seed, e.g., three dogs run loose, the owner leaves their poop out on the deck that surrounds a swimming pool that doesn't look like it would pass any type of health inspection, and those same dogs are allowed to group right outside your window barking all night long at any and all things that get them going. Also, look out for the wily and disingenious owner in terms of his representations, e.g., you may be lead to believe that meals in addition to breakfast are available on-site but once you arrive you find out they aren't (there's more, but you can probably get my drift by now). In summary, we started looking for alternatives right after we arrived at La Posada and were so happy to be able to escape after two nights there.

Great Canyon views, nice pool and deck (that could have been cleaner) AND THAT'S IT. PERIOD.

Not worth the money charged. What they offered and what they delivered is not the same at all. Not what we expected.

The hard beds, no A/C, hotel services non-professional support staff, food not particularly good and greasy (not local nor international) and lots of dogs wandering around, gave us the feeling of being in a slum and diminishes the place completely.

My guy and I wanted a place near the volcano that was peaceful. Little did we know how nice and quiet this place would be. In addition, the owners are lovely and very helpful. If you want to stay near the volcano and have a nice view, this place is for you.

The food is great. Very tasty. Louis' wife is an awesome cook. Great homemade bread and breakfast too.

The rooms are large and very clean. Bathrooms are also very large.

If you are going to the volcano, skip the other hotels and stay at this B and B for a true Costa Rican experience. The owners really are great. They make you feel right at home.

Just returned from Costa Rica where we started off our trip by staying at Posada El Encuentro. The owners, Luis and Sharon, are very warm hosts and make you feel at home in their inn. A very nice, homemade breakfast is included in the price (fresh fruit, homemade bread, egg, juice and coffee). Sharon cooks delicious dinners as well. The view of the surrounding countryside and Rincon de la Vieja volcano is a plus. The inn is modest but comfortable, and is conveniently located about 20-30 minute drive from the park entrance.

Found this little place right here on tripadvisor. I must say that I was slightly disappointed. I have stayed in developing countries and I am not a newbie at this nor do I need to be pampered. The place was just not worth the money that they charged. I honestly don't think I would be nearly as critical if the rate didn't seem out of whack with what they offered.

They are very nice people. The food was not particularly good. The views were some of the best anywhere i have ever stayed... really a . beautiful setting. It was also ruined by the construction that was taking place as well as the general maintenance going on. We were having drinks by the pool and their guy with a weed whacker decided to go at it right next to us... I'm not a complainer but he really could have started somewhere else... the noise/smoke was unbearable.

We asked for a recommendation on a good local restaurant and he sent us to an Italian place in Liberia... not at all what we wanted when we said local. And it was not the best Italian food I've had in Latin America. LOL.

For some reason it just didn't click with us.
