We were looking for an airport hotel in San Jose for a one-nighter, but all the classic airport hotels were expensive and had terrible TripAdvisor reviews. On a lark, I reserved at the Campbell Inn. I called the hotel on landing and they sent a proper van to pick us up at the airport, free of charge. The wait was shorter than for most airport hotel shuttle buses. The room was comfortable and everything worked. The staff is wonderful; you feel like it's a family owned and run hotel. And yes, the free breakfast is quite filling. Although the hotel is near a freeway, I found the room to be quiet. Great value for the money.

This is an excellent motel. The breakfast buffet alone is worth the stay. Very extensive food offerings and the eggs are so fresh you could swear you can hear the cackles. Staff is very service oriented and helpful beyond belief in this day and age. Within walking distance to lots of restaurants and other businesses is a big plus. Plus it is close to public transportation if that is what you need. If we visit again for next Atari reunion, this is where we will stay. Can't be beat for clealiness, location, staff and that BREAKFAST!!

Room Tip: We were close to the front but heard NO traffic at all.

We drove from Vegas and had become tired so pulled into Campbell to find a bed on a Friday night. The first 2 hotels we tried were full but Campbell Inn said they had one suite left but wanted $180 for it. Being desperate for a bed we agreed. The room was really a studio at best with a large bathroom containing a huge spa bath with shower over, a toilet and a basin. No place to put toiletries etc. The next space where you entered the room contained a kitchenette with microwave, coffee machine but no fridge. Also had a sink which doubled as the bathroom basin. The last section of space contained the bed, TV and a couch. There was one tiny window which meant the room was dark and abit dingy. It would have been worth $70 but no more. Still we were desparate and agreed. There was a good breakfast buffet included which made the huge cost a little easier to bear.

A house remodeling caused me to move out for two weeks, and a deal on Kayak put me into the Campbell Inn from 7/6/2012 until 7/20/2012. $99 per night + tax is a deal not to try. My home is approximately 1 mile away, and I know the area well. However, my experience half-way through the stay is making me regret my choice.

The parking lot has a sign which warns hotel residents that parking in the lot is at their own risk. These signs need to be posted in every room to warn hotel guests that staying at this hotel is also at their own risk.

The Campbell Inn has a fantastic location with a short walk to Campbell's downtown area that includes many restaraunts, and the Pruneyard shopping center which has a movie theatre, books store, grocery, and many chain restaraunts. It is also a short walk to the Cambell light rail station which allows access to the VTA light rail transit system. For those inclined to run, bike or hike, the hotel is adjacent to the Los Gatos Creek Trail which runs approximately 11 miles from San Jose, through Campbell, and Los Gatos all the way to Lexington Reservoir. If location were everything, this hotel is the place to be.

Unfortuantely, that alone does not make or save this hotel.

The hotel is sorely lacking any type of security. The swimming pool area has locks on the gates, but are not keyed to room keys to discourage non-hotel residents from accessing or using the pool or complementary breakfast area. Every day in the past week, people with kids drive to the hotel to use the pool in the afternoons and evenings. When they are done, they pile back into their vehicles and drive off. All of this is done in front of a reasonably large size cleaning staff. No one stops and asks anyone for their room keys. This is bothersome considering that room doors are left open while housecleaning is inside the bathrooms which have no visibility of the front door area.

When I asked the front desk for the name of the ownership group, or the individual owner, I was informed by the desk clerk that they do not provide that information...to guests. A hotel that does not provide information contact of their ownership group? This alone is an excellent reason to question whether or not to stay here. Across the street is a hotel owned my Mariott. They do not have any problems offering information to contact their owners.

The first night of my stay, I washed the bottom of my feet after finding they were black - my assumption was they were filthy from my day's acitivites. Less than 30 minutes later I found they again were filthy, and this was while staying inside the room the entire time. This made sense when I realized the hotel staff was steam cleaning the carpets of the room next door upon my arrival. A discussion with the front desk revealed the hotel is aware of the filthy and grimy carpets, but they are on a schedule where they are slowly having the rooms cleaned. In the meantime, all the rooms with filthy carpets are constantly being rented out to guests.

There's an old radio commercial for a motel chain where the message is..."at night, when it's dark, all hotel rooms look the same."

Like I've mentioned, Campbell Inn has a wonderful location, but it has 3 major problems:
1) lack of any type of security for guests
2) they are afraid of providing guests information of who owns the hotel
3) many of the carpeted floors are disgustingly filthy and there is no hurry to remediate the problem

Room Tip: Get a hotel with some security and clean carpets

I stayed at the Campbell Inn Tuesday evening 7/2/12 for $111.60 + $13.39 tax = $124.69. Very reasonable for the area. The hotel is conveniently located between historic downtown Campbell and The Pruneyard shopping/dining area. The front desk staff were welcoming and friendly. There is a walking / jogging / bike riding path that runs along a creek just past the Inn. Should you decide to use the path the Inn has rental bikes available. There is a nice pool area located in the interior courtyard of the Inn. While it is very close to the elevated highway 280, the rooms are well insulated and quiet inside. I had a comfortable king bed (slept very well) room with micro, small fridge and coffee maker. There were many channels available on the tv. The room was nicely appointed. Bath had a tub/shower with one of those rounded-out shower curtains, a sink in the bathroom with another sink outside of the bathroom. Towels were nice and thick enough to comfortably towel off.

There is an excellent complimentary breakfast in a large room by the pool with both cold & hot choices available. The hot choices included scrambled eggs, bacon & sausage, home fries, pancakes & waffles. Plenty to choose from and it begins at 6:00am on weekdays, which worked great for me as I had a 7:00 am appointment. I had dinner the evening before just down the street at a very nice Mediterranean restaurant - Cafe Artemis - in the Pruneyard shopping area. There are many restaurants to choose from there.

In an earlier review, someone mentioned that you are asked to review & sign a paper that there will be no "parties" or similar events in your room. This is true and I appreciated that this is a policy of the hotel. How many times have you stayed at what would have been an enjoyable motel/inn/hotel only to have some louts making noise much of the night.

Enjoyed my stay at the Campbell Inn and would recommend it to all.
