“Very nice place to stay.”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

The views were awesome and the food was one of the best I had in Bhutan. While you are there try their spa. It was awesome. One and half hour of pleasure. Overall five star. I wish I had stayed more than a night. This place is definitely worth the money you pay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a good view on the top of the hill.

The view from the room is breathtaking...you get the feel of staying in middle of the forest. The staff is accommodating and helpful. Though try to put in a request for a king size bed if you are a couple or are traveling with a small baby.

We were 2 families with kids and stayed in Nak-Sel for just 2 days. We regretted the fact that we had spent more time in Thimpu and were left with less time in Paro. Because Paro is a much better place to enjoy, relax and spend peaceful vacations in Bhutan. Nak-Sel is a very fine property with big spacious rooms and good hospitality. Food was very good and the staff was very helpful as well. Tenzin at front office was especially very helpful and friendly. This property is one of the best in Paro and I would anytime recommend it.

Nak-Sel being placed at a higher altitude than other hotels in the Paro valley is the best place to give your body the necessary biological adoption to the weather and the altitude.

Visiting the Tiger's nest would be easier if your body has adopted to the breathing thin air.

And if you are done with your trekking, a Stone bath at Nak-sel will reenergize you to the rest of your journey.

The scenic beauty from dawn to dusk is unexplainable.

Nak-sel is located high up so one has a beautiful view from most places in the hotel. The approach road climbing up to the hotel is a bit run down - the hotel is actually built on a hillside so there is a lot of variation in the altitude within the property. We were staying in the cottage farthest from the lobby and the walk up to our room over the steepish path was quite strenuous for me. A snow capped Mt Jomolhari was visible from outside our room one of the days when the sun was out which was a delight. The hotel does have a van which one can use to get to ones room if so inclined. A brook flows through the property and if one is physically fit, one can spend a decent amount of time exploring the surroundings. There is plenty of birdlife in the jungle surrounding the hotel.
The staff of the hotel was fairly professional and helpful. They responded to requests for room service even though one could see the climb up to the room with a laden tray was enough to get them panting. In the room we were staying the beds had been re-arranged and the configuration was not that of a normal double bedroom. On the first night we also had a lot of insects come into the room - the best the hotel could do about it was a spray. They had run out of tablets for the electric repellant machine. There was also some issue with the lights and the TV in the room. The food was decent but most of the choice was Indian. The Wi-Fi worked only in the lobby block. Besides these few niggling issues just the beauty of the place made it a good experience for us

On the whole, Nak-sel is a beautiful property with loads of potential. The fact that it is usually quite highly rated probably means that we may have stayed there at a time when they were short staffed or going through a bit of a bad patch.

Room Tip: If you don't want to strain yourself getting to the room ask for lower rooms.

Was there last week. Great view from the room but location of hotel and getting there not easy. Not much to do either at the hotel. Food needs huge improvements. They charge 15% extra for room service. Staff seem like multitasking. See them at several places doing stuff right to room service. Were courteous and helpful. Would we stay there again, may be not

Thankyou to Nak-Sel for a wonderful week's stay during the Gross National Happiness course conducted there. The staff were helpful, the food delicious and the views sublime. Laundry done within 12 hours and Even our credit cards worked (a bonus in Bhutan)! I highly recommend staying here and walking in the nearby woods of a morning. Look out for wild strawberries in June!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Located thirty minutes from Paro International Airport, Naksel Boutique Hotel & SPA is a luxury retreat where the comforts of man and the presence of nature combine for a peaceful escape in the hills of Bhutan. Nestled on the edge of the national forest and the quiet Ngoba Village, Naksel derives its name from the Dzongka translation of 'Forest,' which is only fitting for this Himalayan sanctuary. The main lodge and surrounding cottages of Naksel rest on six acres of apple orchard, nearly 2700 meters above sea level. Each room, cottage and suite boasts unparalleled views of Mount Jumolhari, Taktsang Monastery, Sangachoekhor Monastery, and the Paro valley below. Elaborate hand-carved pillars and beautiful stonework exemplify the essence of Bhutan while tapered mud-brick walls provide insulation and restful silence. Leading Bhutan in energy efficiency, Naksel features LED lighting, highly efficient water heaters, and Swedish under floor heating systems preheated by solar panels. Main construction materials for Naksel are indigenous and locally purchased. Traditional windows, mud-bricks, framework and even furniture were locally crafted here in Ngoba Village, connecting Naksel to the surrounding forest. We offer the following room-categories: 1.
