Hotel Kanro no Mori

Amazing place to stay. In the midst of winter, all one need is the comfort and warmth of accommodation and food.
And Kanronomori outclass that easily, without the expense of tradition and culture. Housed in a complex, there are traditional tatami rooms , tatami + western beds, or totally western rooms. We stayed in the tatami + western beds. Absolutely beautiful, with large windows in the room which doubles in bringing in sunlight and warmth, and also as an amazing window to the world outside. Who needs a tv ?! The in house onsens (split to male and female) are a welcome delight to a cold cold day outside, especially if one were to ski. The outdoor onsen, soaking in the warmth while the snow fall softly around you, is a must experience. Food, needless to say, is a feast of the local delights. Love the breakfast spread, especially the miso soup + wild mushroom, the porridge with all the condiments, the local beancurd + ginger mash. There's western portions as well, for those not used with the local fare. The ceiling to ground glass windows, just be the window to your eyes and soul. During winter, what an amazing sight to behold.

And a must try, is definitely the kaiseki dinner, with advance reservation in the day time if you would want to have for the night. It's about 5 course meal, prepare to be bewildered ! Absolutely worth the money paid for dinner. A pianist, will also serenade guests at the lobby area, for an hour or so, during dinner.

There are only 2 options for meals in Kanronomori, the provided breakfast and the kaiseki dinner are located in the same restaurant. For lunch and dinner, the adjoining cafe/restaurant serves simpler ala-carte meal (soba noodle set/ semi-buffet)

There is a accompanying sports center in the hotel, in the other wing of the complex. Guests can rent ski equipment, and book for ski classes/outings from here. The complementary shuttle bus run throughout the day, in 40 mins interval or so, from the morning till late evening, that shuttles between Kanronomori to Annupuri to Hirafu. Annupuri ski area is just 15 mins on the bus. There's Moiwa ski area, which is just right outside the arrival gate turning into Kanronomori, though not as popular as Annupuri.

Booked via JapaniCan, which had an amazing winter deal that packaged with breakfast for a very good deal price in winter. Was contemplating between Hilton Niseko in Annupuri and this, and was so glad to have gone with Kanronomori. We arrived in Niseko station, and the hotel shuttle van picked us up from the station , with advanced notice to the hotel. Would love to be back here again.

Room Tip: Reserve for the kaiseki dinner by the morning ! A must try !

We stayed there for 4 nights on a ski holiday. On arrival we were greeted by warm and hospitable staff which made us felt at ease immediately despite having some language issues. The room was spacious with a tatami floored dining area. The resort is actually 10 mins shuttle from Annupuri ski resort, which makes relatively isolated from the main hustle and bustle. However we appreciated the peace and tranquility which is perfect for a getaway. The shuttle service is frequent and punctual. We had both breakfast and dinner there. The kaiseki dinner was something we looked forward to at the end of our ski sessions, The breakfast a standard japanese buffet spread. Dipping in the onsen at the end of the day is something is must do experience. Overall, we would certainly return for our future ski holidays in Niseko.

Room Tip: Choose rooms facing the hill/ mountain.

The whole hotel decor is a bit dated, other than that I have no complains.

Great service throughout. Complimentary vehicle pick up at Niseko station upon arrival.
Free wifi ( very strong signal)

Ski rentals & lesson provided by the hotel. Free shuttle to ski slopes right from the hotel.

Onsen is beautiful, soaking in the onsen with snow falling is a experience you won't forget.

The hotel is surrounded by snow covered trees.

Overall a very comfortable stay.

Whether you are a great skier or not, Niseko is a must visit when you are in Hokkaido as many tourists visit this place every year for the slopes. While we enjoy visiting the place, we don't particularly like to stay at a hotel where there are too many people, that's why we chose to stay here when we were in Niseko.

This hotel was located at the corner of Annupuri and the service, scenery, and onsen were first class.

We book the rooms with Kaiseki dinners, which is a traditional Japanese multiple course dinner cuisine consisting of hot pot, fresh sashimi and the catch of the day etc. They serve a different menu every night and we can have different Kaiseki meals throughout our stay. The food was served in their restaurant where it has an unobstructed view of the forest through many full length glass panels. Because it had been snowing quite heavily for the past few days, the scenery of the forest with powdered snow was just amazing,

My in-laws were a little uncomfortable to visit the public onsen even though they don't have that many people. Therefore, we took the chance to book their two private onsens - one for my in-laws and one for us during our stay. It was totally worth it! We had the onsens to ourselves and both private onsens have an indoor and outdoor bath. Having a place on our own was a memorable experience, and we will probably do it again next time.

We also had a traditional Japanese massage in our room on the night we arrive. Their service was excellent. At the end, we had a little chat with our massage masters and one of them told us that the hotel was very popular for HK movie stars, and Tony Leung and Carina Lau had stayed here previously because of the exclusive location. Not sure if it is true or not .... But well, we do enjoy our own stay here.

Oh, there was live music at the lobby each evenings, the performers were a team of husband and wife - one was playing the piano and the other was playing the violin. The music simply made our Christmas stay special.

Enjoy to stay in this Hot Spring Hotel, relax atmosphere, friendly staff, the hotel is not as commercial as some of the hot spring hotels in the area, the uphill location is quite remoted and quiet too.
A nice hotel to stay in!!

We enjoy our 2-night stay at the hotel before moving to Hilton Niseko for another 4 nights during CNY. . I have to say I am more impressed with this hotel and Hilton. Here are pros and cons:
Pros:
1. Good price (about 30-50% cheaper than Hilton)
2. Great service. The staff is experienced and, even though their English is not good, they are polite and will do whatever to make you happy. We told them we would move to Hilton and they arrange a private shuttle to drop us off. The hotel staff also came off to bow to send us off.
3. Live piano at 7:30PM
4. Good food with reasonable price. We like all-you-can-eat steak for about JPT2,500
5. Nice onsen. (though not as nice as the one at Hilton but it is more than enough) It is also less crowded so I had an onsen to myself :)
6. Nice convenient store and many local products. (a lot better than Hilton's)
Cons
1. The location is 10-min by free shuttle to Annupuri but if you want to ski at Village or Hirafu, it is another 20-30 mins longer.
2. The bathroom smells urine and even if we requested a reclean, the smell did not go away. I guess it is the automatic toilet bowl that is hard to clean.
3. We stay in a western/Japanese room and feel that the room needs refurbishing. The carpet is spotted and the wallpaper is about to peel.

Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to a friend. But for us, we will consider Hirafu area next time we go to Niseko..just for a change.

Tucked away in a corner of Annapuri, one of the ski areas of Niseko is a high end hotel perched on the edge of a forest reserve.
The rooms can be priced with gourmet dinners, kaiseki style, which are multiple courses based on the freshest produce available locally. The menus are not repeated for a fortnight so you can have different kaiseki meals all through your stay as long as you stay less than 14 days.
The restaurant is ringed by full length glass panels which give an unobstucted view of the forest, which in the depths of winter, makes for an almost Narnia like ambience. You half expect a faun to appear, but instead, you do get to see some deers wandering around.
The resort also has an excellent onsen. And the onsen is closed for an hour every evening to switch the male and female sides so that everyone gets to enjoy the best views from each onsen.
Downside: This hotel is not situated directly on the slopes so you do need to take the frequently run hotel shuttles to Annapuri which is 10 mins away.
