We stayed at the Monarch Cove Inn following a family wedding which was hosted there. As other reviewers have mentioned, the views from this location are very pretty, so it is definitely a nice place to host a wedding. The rooms are a bit worn, and there is only one (full?) bed per room. Considering the one bed and the high price/room, it's definitely not a place to take a family. (We brought sleeping bags for our kids.)

To their credit, the wedding and catering worked like a well-oiled machine. It seemed like a nice idea to stay at the hotel following the wedding, but in hindsight, we should have saved our money and stayed elsewhere.

Great location slightly isolated from the crazy parking at the beach. But beach is not too far away, via a nice walk on a bluff. Lovely staff, ample parking, good breakfast delivered to your room.
We stayed in the Ocean View room, which was often fogged in, but still just a gem.

If your looking for a fabulous retreat and a place back in time, the Monarch Inn, in Capitola, Ca. is the place to go. We just returned from this Mid-1800 year old Bed and Breakfast property, it's nestled among Eucalptus and pine trees, old world roses, flowers and charm. The walking paths take you to serene sitting area's where water fountains give you a tranquil moment. A walk down by the ocean may just give you look at the whales and dolphins swimming by. The surrounding landscaping fits the time and era of the property. The rooms have great ocean views, and their decor pleansantly gives you the comfort and look of days by gone. The rooms have sitting area, eating erea, fireplace, comfortable canopy beds, and their own bathrooms. There is so much window space, the views are breathless. Breakfast is brought to your room, you can eat in your inside eating area, or simple go outdoors to your own patio sitting area. You are served fresh fruit, coffee, orange juice, yogurt, jams, cream cheese, butter, and wonderful very large pastries. The property is very quiet and serene, the staff is very friendly and helpful. It's also a very great place to have a Wedding. We will go back again. The Warren's from Lodi, Ca.

Room Tip: upper level best views of the ocean.

We stayed at the Monarch Cove Inn for my 50th bday. We got a complimentary bottle of wine when we arrived. We were threre on a Thursday which meant it was not busy and we felt we had the whole place to ourselves. We hung out on our porch and in the lovely garden. We walked to New Brighton State Beach which is a path away. The Ocean View room has an awesome view! Location, location, location. It was quiet and beautiful. The continental breakfast brought to the room was great with plenty of food and coffee. The room was fine, nothing fancy and the bathroom needed a remodel. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Overall, it was a wonderful place to stay. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ocean View Room!

I'm at the Monarch Cove Inn enough to call it my second home. It was built in the late 1800's and its cozy charm reflects this. Each room has its own color theme and fireplace electric heater. An assortment of butterfly knickknacks and paintings are all over the property. Breakfast is served in the room each morning.

Capitola Village is a short walk away with great food and a beach.

I love staying here. It’s quiet and secluded allowing me to regroup and relax. The staff is friendly and helpful. They’re available during regular business hours (9am to 5pm). The Monarch Cove Inn is a real gem on the tip of the Monterey Bay.

There is a nice view of the ocean from the property, but that is about the only positive thing I can say. The 2 bedroom cottage we stayed in was very run-down. The carpets were dirty, paint is peeling, and furniture is worn. The bathroom is dark and tub is in poor shape. Also, the rooms smelled of mildew. I was very disappointed, and would definitely not stay here again.

The only good thing about this place is the location and the view. We stayed in one of the best rooms the Ocean View Room with indeed a stunning view. The room was furnished with flea market furniture. The mattress was soft, the room dirty, a big gap under the entrance door causing a draft when you were inside the room. The sheets had holes. The bathroom had mildew, no hooks for your clothes, no towel racks, the toilet was wobbling and loose. The pressure of the shower very low - and the shower curtain had hooks missing. Motel 6 would have been luxurious. Our first breakfast was also a big disappointment. Frozen fruitsalad, stale and cold rolls, warm coffee. For the two of us we had to share our food on one plate. The second morning we left (the same identical breakfast) and went to Gayle's Bakery for a wonderful meal with fresh rolls and juice. No staff was on the premises to complain to only the cleaning staff who did not speak english. We travel a lot all over the world but this was a huge disappointment. Shame on the owners to charge so much for so little.
