“Great location”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

It's hard to beat the location of the Capitola Venetian Hotel. The view is fantastic as well.

Pros:
Location! You're at the end of the Pier and a short walk from town.
Great view of the ocean (tho it's blocked a bit by the roof of the lower unit)
Large living room.
Kitchenette.
Small porch, but big enough to sit on.
Cool history.
The staff we encountered was very friendly and helpful.

Cons:
It's loud. I don't mean the beach either. You can hear the TV from the neighboring units and people walking around.
The shower is tiny and the showerhead feels like it's shooting lasers.
Whoever cleaned the unit left the cleaning solution on the toilet seat and didn't wipe it off. That was a bit of a surprise.

Room Tip: We were in room 128. Ocean view and decent size.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of the hotel. I hope you enjoyed your stay. I'm sorry you found the room to be noisy. It is an old hotel so we try to warn people to be considerate of the people in the rooms around them. I'll also look into the other issues you raised. I'll speak with the housekeeping and maintenance staff. Perhaps we need a different type of shower head. I hope you'll be staying with us again.

Regards,
Duane

Cozy beachy rooms with kitchenettes and minimal services but close to lots of fun. Helpful staff. Location is near fun shops and a good variety of restaurants with easy access to many other attractions. Some days we hunkered down to read and enjoy view. Some days we took off exploring.

We've been coming to the Santa Cruz/Capitola area every summer since my kids were babies, probably for about the last 25 years or so and have stayed at the Capitola Venetian for at least the last 17 or 18 years consecutively, most of those years have been in the same unit....the 2nd biggest one, since I have 5 kids. Through the years, Duane and the staff have always been friendly and accomodating. The room is always clean upon arrival. Even though the kids are all adults now and it's harder for my over-6 ft boys to manuever some of the beams in the unit, and parking can sometimes be a challenge, this is like our summer condo. We always have to bring at least two cars, but park one of them up the hill. We've talked about going to other destinations for a change, but no matter what, my family never wants to NOT go to Capitola and stay "in our place" because it's become such a tradition. Its the one time of year, that no matter where each of the family is living they plan their work and schedules around all of us going. Now, we've even gotten friends and family hooked on staying at the Venetian! Summer would not be the same if we didn't go. The day we check out, we always reserve for the following year. And.....it's funny because there have been times that we've gone to Capitola/Santa Cruz for just a day and when the family sees "our room" and someone else is staying in it.....they get a little over-protective and jealous....lol. We love the Capitola Venetian.....our summer condo!

Spent a nice relaxing weekend and bonus car show. Ok real small parking lot and I drone a mini. Had to enter passenger side because a truck parked do close. Room was cool. We had ocean view. Loved the sound of ocean, birds, and salty air. Quaint room. All open. Kind of felt like it was not level different parts head up or down. Great walk to everything, beach, food, shops. Foggy cloudy cool so nice to be away from 105 valley heat. Only real problem was toilets eat was so low I felt I was sitting on ground which is hard with ad knees. Cool place would go again.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Capitola. The car show was fun. In the future if you have parking problems in our lot such as you described please let us know. If we notice someone parking in an inconsiderate manner we do try to get them to straighten out their vehicle. I know our lot is kind of tight but if everyone has some consideration for the other people when they park it works.

This motel sits right on the beach at Capitola, since I was a kid we would come to the beach and I always wondered who were the lucky people who got to stay here, as it turns out I won a two night stay. This property was built in the 1920's and well maintained, the best location for discovering this town, no need to use your car. We enjoyed Pizza my Heart, and Zelda's restaurant, right up the street is Shadowbrook restaurant which you'll have to dress up a little for, beautiful property, a must see, great for picture taking along with a mural alongside the street on the way there. Don't miss Gayles Bakery in Capitola for breakfast lunch or dinner and take out for the beach, it's our families favorite place. Can't wait to rent this property again.

Room Tip: built in the 1920's, so not luxurious but very family friendly, comfy beds and furnishings, my th...

Been there, done that at Santa Cruz and didn’t want to spend the big bucks for the same ole’ thing so we opted to stay in near by Capitola.
We where looking for; beach front, no driving required for food and fun.
Happened across the Capitola Venetian, a block from restaurants, shops, bars and a sandy beach 75 feet from the door, Book it Danho !! We didn’t look at any of the reviews prior to arrival so we were walking into this property blind.
Our room #124 is street level has a balcony and what’s with all the room?
There are only two of us and we walked into suite with 4 rooms, (2 bedrooms, a living room and kitchen). This place could easily sleep 8 and with a kitchen, a family or group of friends on a budget could rock this place for a week.
The rooms very clean, beds comfortable, plenty of closet space, the bathroom upgraded. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator. The balcony gives the view of the river, beach and pier. True you do have a building between you and the beach but all you have to do is look up and it’s easy to ignore what is at your feet and enjoy watching the waves crashing on the shore.
If you do want to visit the boardwalk at Santa Cruz (like we did) it’s a 10 minute drive along the cliffs and through the neighborhoods.
This is a great property with an excellent location We will be returning here again.
I recommend the rooms 123 – 131 they have balconies. Rooms 123 & 124 open to the street and do get traffic noise, so if this is a concern then stay in the upper numbers.

Room Tip: I recommend the rooms 123 – 131 they have balconies. Rooms 123 & 124 open to the street and do g...

We had a wonderful family time and fabulous experience! My husband and I grew up on this beach . . . we had friends and family with us - who also had childhood memories of Capitola, as well.
The Hotel is run well, rooms are old - BUT clean and it's all part of the charm! Charming is Capitola by ~ the ~ Sea. The views from the room really great compared to some vacation rentals in the village. Always much to do, for all ages! The beach is steps away . . .
Make it HAPPEN, make your memories... we'll be back!
