I live three blocks from Gayles and it's difficult to not go there everyday. The food is fresh and delicious, the daily specials are great, the pastries are out of this world - I even go there for a fresh mini baguette and coffee in the morning. The problem is, besides being addictive her stuff is also a little high on both calories and cost. Still, whenever we plan a picnic we stop by Gayles first the freshest stuff in town. Yum also to her Holiday delights - Passover, Easter, Christmas - all the faves!
I know the way they do customer service is funky, but that's part of the charm - just go get a ticket by the door and wait for them to call your number!
