“Landmark. Destination Bakery/Deli. Just do it.”
Reviewed 22 April 2014

Landmark: Everyone from the area and many from all over have learned of Gayles. Its a crazy busy deli & bakery with to die for food. You can eat there (cozy fireplace in winter or cold days) or take it with.

First thing you do when you get there: browse. Just mill around and take it all in, check out everything! Then when you'v figured out the dozen or so things you want - grab a number! Before long you will hear your umber called and they will get your selections ready for you, get you to the cashier and bang you're good to go!

Gayle's also has a decent coffee bar (but Pete's is located just down the strew) and some decent local wines (by the bottle).

Cyclists will want to make Gayle's a lunch stop or start/finish for a ride and chill on the outside deck.

Food-wise, my favorite things at Gayle's are the bakery items - cookies, cakes, tortes, pastries.

Great hangout for weekend brunch but deli-style not cafe-style food.

“Gayle's Bakery”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

Gayle's Bakery is one of the most singularly unique combination food and bakery restaurants in the United States. I have patronized this bakery periodically for the last 35 years, and have never been disappointed. Their baked goods, of which there is a large variety, are as good as they get, and their food, which can either be eaten at the restaurant or taken out, includes a wide variety of choices and is very good as well.

The prices for the quality are reasonable. The only drawback is the wait time when they are busy. It is not uncommon to have 15-to-20 people or more in queue at the busy times of the day.

“Gayles is an Capitola tradition”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

I live three blocks from Gayles and it's difficult to not go there everyday. The food is fresh and delicious, the daily specials are great, the pastries are out of this world - I even go there for a fresh mini baguette and coffee in the morning. The problem is, besides being addictive her stuff is also a little high on both calories and cost. Still, whenever we plan a picnic we stop by Gayles first the freshest stuff in town. Yum also to her Holiday delights - Passover, Easter, Christmas - all the faves!

I know the way they do customer service is funky, but that's part of the charm - just go get a ticket by the door and wait for them to call your number!

“Delicious!”
Reviewed 11 April 2014 via mobile

Found this place by "accident" while in the Capitola/Santa Cruz area. Ample seating, casual & quaint. Everything we tried was yummy! Just so sad I live 3 hours away....I can't stop the craving for their chocolate eclares! Please move to my town!
