“Great, fun hotel (but pricey)”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

My family (two adults nearing 50, 7 year-old boy, 10 year-old girl) visited the Legoland Hotel California in July of 2014. Three of us are Lego fans and the target market of the hotel. We stayed in a fully themed adventure room on the 3rd floor. Breakfast was included for our stay, as well as free valet parking, free internet, and free activities.

The rooms are a good size, with a kids "room" (no door or curtains) and an adult "room" (no door/curtains). The kid room has a bunk bed with a trundle (3 beds total). The kid room also has its own TV and reportedly free on-demand shows. I don't think we ever turned on the TV in our rooms.

The food at Bricks Buffet was good ($50/four people). Yes, it's geared for kids, but also has some items that adults will like (prime rib, carved turkey). Some characters also made their way to the tables during our stay (a knight and a jester).

Likewise, Skyline Café was good and the prices were not outrageous and the quality was decent.

The pool was a good size & depth for kids. There was no diving board or slide, but there was a pool side movie at 8:30.

At nearly $400/night in the summer (fully themed room), this was an expensive hotel compared to my usual budget. But, it was definitely different and fun. I'd definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Legoland hotel is great for kids and adults. We stayed in the pirate themed room. Kids love the separate bunks and it's good for adults to be further away from the kids while they are sleeping. The only thing we found is that the buffet restaurant is not open on Mondays . So there is only one restaurant that is open and it's a bar. Service was terrible because they had no staff on and it was very busy as you could imagine. If you go avoid Monday nights or plan to go somewhere else to eat. Other than that we d stay there again

I really thought long and hard about this review before writing. I think another possible title would be "A Swing and A Miss." I wanted this to be a great review, but the hotel just came up short in every aspect. If you are thinking of staying here, be prepared to shell out a lot of money and get a little in return. If you have stayed at a Disney resort, this is nowhere close and you will be sadly disappointed.

They make an attempt at a lot of things, just come up short on each. Let me give you a few examples:

They have a buffet for kids and adults. The buffet has many types of foods that would excite the young and old, but it is all horribly prepared. It tastes like it just came out of the microwave.

Try calling the hotel after 5 pm or early in the morning...impossible! They have a recording tell you to try during normal business hours.

Most people working there are in their teens or early 20s and most but not all could care less about customer service.

Except for the Lego structures, the hotel is decorated like a 2 star hotel, just blah at best.

There are a few good things about the hotel worth noting:

It is literally steps from the hotel to the entrance of the park. You get in an hour before the general public does. The negative is that to return to the hotel, you have to walk around to the front of the hotel...very annoying!

The pool is average at best, but they do have 2 life guards monitoring the pool at all times which is a major plus. The cabanas need a facelift.

They entertain the children with 3 different activities in the evening from 6 - 8 pm with a movie at the pool afterwards. This gives parents a chance to unwind after a day at the park.

The rooms are ok with a section for the kids and a separate one for the adults.

My recommendation would be to save your money and stay at one of the other name brand hotels that are located just adjacent to the property. You will be much happier.

Room Tip: Stay at a different hitel

Very good entertains men for children.
We went there before the local school holidays and it was great! We loved the music and light in the elevator and could hardly resist dancing to the beats!!!
Then there was the whoopy cushion.. My son and the other kids loved it!!!
The themed rooms were awesome and the treasure quiz was entertaining ...
I would say it is a little pricy for what you get... But.. They are always booked... So I suppose the rates are not about to come down, unfortunately...

This is a great place to stay with younger children. The layout and décor of the rooms, the Lego focused play areas in the lobby, the disco design of the elevators, the breakfast buffet with a wide variety of food, and the swimming pool where even the youngest can just walk in make for a very pleasant stay. Easy access to the LEGOLAND park is just out the door. This would be a five star review except that there were some reservation/check in issues that were blamed on the reservation call center and the only responses at the hotel were "sorry about that".

Room Tip: Ask to be over the pool area to get a better view.

We celebrated my daughter's birthday this month in this hotel and purchased the "birthday package". In the package includes a special birthday gift for the celebrant ( be sure to remind the staff during the check in, 'coz they forgot to give it to my daughter only after i asked and reminded them), a "huge cake" given during dinner in the restaurant of your choice at legoland ( we choice bricks since its more family friendly and buffets include an array of foods that kids can get it by themselves since the food stands are of their level) and a short but sweet singing of happy birthday to my daughter by a group of "fun-costumed" staff in the restaurant. We stayed in a "pirates junior suite room". The room is HUGE and a lot of space that can fit 7-8 people. Although you are only allowed to have 5 people in the room, the hotel is not that strict about counting people who stays in the rooms. But they do count the number of persons entering the restaurants during the buffet. Our room has one king (that is so spacious for me, my hubby and 4 yr old son) and the bunk beds in the other side that comfortable accommodated my 15, 12, and 8 year old kids. But realistically, there is just more, enough space to put an air bed in the floor that can accommodate 2-4 more persons in your party ( i should say 2 more adults and 2 more kids). Again, just saying that only 5 is allowed but "you dont have to declare" that you have more in your party. And to add up to this very spacious Pirate Junior Suite room is "2" (yes, not 1) balconies overlooking the pool wherein you can watch people enjoying the pool and even watch the nightly movies being shown in a big projector by the pool. All of these you can watch in your own pleasure and convenience of your 2 connecting, spacious balconies. Bathroom is huge. Pirate decors and colors are awesome for the kids! Legos in the room to play (but not to bring home). Be sure to ask for a microwave (free). There is a mini fridge.
The elevators are super fun with the strobe lights and music enjoyed by both adults and kids. Dining Staffs at Bricks Restaurant are soooooo nice and went far and beyond their service by even putting our left-over "huge" birthday cake in their fridge during our entire 3days/2nights stay. We can call in anytime to bring the cake in our room and if we dont finish the whole thing, we can always request it to be placed back to their ref.
Everything is "almost" Awesome in legoland but not quite due to few flaws. Food is "expensive" in Bricks. Even if we paid $50/dinner package for 4 people. The quality and variety of foods presented are poor. Breakfast is free. Breakfast is "just average" but better than the dinner.
Front desk staff are "terrible" most of them does not smile(considering the is hotel is for kids) Only about 2 staffs from the front desk whom i saw played and smiled with the kids but the rest just seem to be just their "to work" not " to work and have fun with kids and guests".
Legoland Hotel is expensive. But overall, you get the prize of what you paid seeing your kids mesmerized by the decors, legos, colors, music and fun things everywhere... If i am going to choose to stay there again...even if its super, duper expensive...for the love of my kids... I WILL... :)

P.S: Book early in advance, pirates room are the first to fill up.
If you have privilege to buy from" recreationconnect.com" from your work, purchase thru their website( you'll save hundreds)

Room Tip: Rooms in the 2nd and 3rd floor overlooking the pool are the best!. You get to enjoy the fun riding t...

My family and I stayed here for one night on a visit to Southern California. We were blown away by the details and decor of the hotel. Our kids are 10, 8 and 6 and they all loved everything about the hotel. The rooms are expensive, but take into consideration the fact that they offer complimentary valet parking, they store your luggage if you arrive early so you can visit the park and also if you want to visit the park for the day when you check out. Your bags are delivered to your room when you arrive and someone will come to bring them down when you check out. Breakfast is also included with your stay. The room offers 2 bottles of water and 2 juice packs with no extra charge. I know this is not a huge thing, but the previous hotel we had stayed at charged $3 for each bottle of water in the room, so this was a welcome touch. There is also a treasure chest in the room and to find the code to unlock it the kids have to do a little scavenger hunt around the hotel. Little touches that made a huge impression. While parents are checking in there is a lego pit where kids can build in the lobby. There was the option of a dining package for 4 for $50 for the Bricks Buffet Restaurant, we paid extra for our fifth person and took advantage of that. While waiting for the elevator there is a whoopie cushion built into the carpet which the kids had fun playing with! The elevators have disco balls and when the elevator is moving the disco ball comes on and music plays. The rooms are great with a separate area for kids with bunk beds and a trundle bed. Everything is decorated amazingly and makes you feel like you're in another land :) We had supper at Brick's Buffet and there were a lot of choices. Something to satisfy everyone! There were also some characters going around talking to tables. We also had our breakfast here as well and again, many, many choices, happy kids and there was a pirate visiting tables. The hotel is pricey, but the experience was amazing and something that was enjoyed by the whole family!! We would stay here again - my kids hated to leave!!
