I left my cell phone and charger in the room after checking out of the hotel. After contacting the hotel, Ms. Juvy Tojot (director of housing dept.) sent them back to me within several days. Her prompt reply and hospitality made me extremely satisfied. Good staff, Good place.

Room Tip: Choosing the room next to the lobby is easy to get access to the adult pool.

I have just returned from the Grand Pacific Pallisades, where i stayed for 5 days. A friend invited me to go on her timeshare week, a trade, which was in January because other business travel was in that month and we would be in California. Other friends stayed in the hotel too, at a very reasonable off season rate. The Grand Pallisades is a hotel on one side, and some timeshare suite apartments on the other wing. Both have some views of the Flower Fields, from March to May, we saw them planting. We were not pressured by anyone to sit thru a marketing presentation, and the timeshare showed very well because of it. The owners did not sit thru a presentation, either, although they were offered a golfing holiday and other incentives it seems. They were treated well, respected as owners.

The amenities here suit families, grand parents and children, and also adult travelers. It is a beautiful property just like in the pictures, and because of walls and landscaping the view of the horizon from this hilltop is the Pacific Ocean.

The star of the property, a little piece of paradise, is the adult pool area, which is as nice as any more expensive luxury resort I have stayed in, and from Labor Day until Memorial Day, adults have this heated lap and recreation pool to themselves. Check the rules in summer, especially if you have teens that like to swim. And in March thru May, the pool looks out over the Flower Fields. (So do many of the balconies.) I could spend 5 days in winter sitting at this pool and not need to go anywhere else. You can return there in the evening, it is open late too, we swam at night and then warmed up by the fireplaces, the guests congregated there, and also people used the hot tubs.

The other pool is a family pool and that must be the star for all the young visitors to Lego Land, which is next door. There are some cute waterpark features, and in January, there were children running thru the showers and sliding down the slide on the Yellow Submarine in the pool area, and it looked like fun. There are hour restrictions on the kiddies, they shut it down at night for a quiet time. For families too, there are barbecues located near the pool area, and they turn them on when you reserve them ahead, and you can cook there, a few people were cooking something delicious while I was there.

Of course, in the suites, you can cook in your room, we had the perfect small kitchen arrangement, (although the refrigerator door is on backwards in #275, and it would make a difference if you switch it folks!) Our kitchen was bright, clean and had the basics, and we had a dining table that might seat 8, a full size table. The baths were bright and clean too, and the only criticism is, if you are supposed to keep your towels now a days, to save on water/eco etc., we need a few more places to hang them. Placing a drying rack in the closet could do, but they could add some more towel racks in the bathroom, and more hooks on the back of the door....if leaving them on the floors the signal to take them away.

The suite had smooth styled hotel furnishings, in good condition and a fireplace that felt good after a night time swim. The balcony was nice for breakfast. While we were there, some of the first floor suites were being renovated, near the kiddie pool. New stuff was arriving, new rugs, duvets, pillows, even saw some furniture. They were painting up for the coming season. We had access to a laundry room, and the business travelers needed laundry doing, it was $3.00 paid on a debit card, very easy.

Our hosts took the shuttle to the golf course at The Crossings, just minutes away and part of this resort area. I cannot report complaints, and I am not an authority on golf, I think it was nice and a challenging course. We had sunny days (60's to high 70's) in January, and then one rainy day. The golf that day was somewhere else, but I think a golf holiday is another star feature of this resort.

The grounds are beautiful, bougainvillia and birds of paradise everywhere, and palm trees, and there is a long walled walk around the property, nice for a stroll. There are multiple hot tubs, and in the pool area at night there are large open fires to warm up by. Yes, you have to dress at night to use the pool, it gets colder than you are used to, bring coverups and sweat shirts for January, but do go swimming, there were a lot of people enjoying day and night. There was a cabana/bath near the pool, and a garden just made for outdoor California weddings. (Literally?)

There is a resort fee, for us it was around $90 for four people. I suspect it covers the shuttle rides and maybe towels for the pool. This is not a full service resort with cocktails and food at the pool although they seem to be able to offer that for a special event or perhaps in summer season? I have paid $25 per day per person elsewhere, so you don't get those amenities, but this is timeshare living, people who like timeshares are independent minded and want to make their little meal for themselves, feed the kiddies at home, they like that. (My husband appreciated making his egg and coffee himself and not having to go out to a restaurant for breakfast.) You could get food in from Trader Joe's easily, avoid fast foods and eat right. That resort fee might vary, you should ask.

However, if you want someone to feed you, there is a Karl Strauss Brew House on the property, and they serve breakfast buffet , lunch and dinner, every day. They make meals and they will make them for takeout too, on a limited menu. They have beers of all kinds, they have a bar. People other than hotel guests come here, it seems popular.

The Lobby. Guest services in the Lobby is where you meet Sean, Scott, and John, and (? sorry ladies) they help you figure out your daily plans, look up tours and trips, make sure you are spot on, for your travel times, make sure you have the shuttle number when you take off, in case you need rescuing out there, and they are super. They will help you figure out your dinner plans, and get you a reservation. And, they drive you in the shuttle to the beach, and will pick you up later, or they will drive you to the Carlsbad village shops. We mostly took the shuttle to the beach, and to eat, and we took it to ride on The Coaster train to San Diego. They picked us up at night.

The location of this hotel is not on the beach, it has ocean views from it's perch atop a hill looking out over the Flower Fields to the ocean. There are a few highways between the hotel and the ocean. There is a splendid Mall Prime Outlets, if you forgot anything, and there is a Trader Joe's and Peet's coffee at a different mall. The shuttle can get you there. We took the shuttle to the Beach, and walked all the way to the Carlsbad village, and walked back, a few times, it took a long time and it is set up to walk easily, with pedestrian areas, walkways, and benches for sitting also, for runners, and there was a bike lane. In January we put our feet only in the water, it was as cold as Maine water, and the surfers had wetsuits. The temps were a lot like Maine in late August or September, but appreciated by us in January.

At the lobby we could see that they hold timeshare events in the suite over the lobby, and there is also a helpful office where you can communicate with your timeshare people if you need to, they can help owners. Owners pay fees that keep the resorts maintained and nice, and our hosts seemed to be treated respectfully while we were there. I could not help thinking though, that the space taken up by the Timeshare offices would be nicely used to expand their wedding business, or to get in more dining in the future, or a spa....(There is kind of an ugly sign dominating the charm of the lobby, a bit much, that advertises a nearby Marbrisa resort.) The timeshare units are available to rent to non members, and they make a nice change for a long trip, I think you have to search for them online as timeshares, or select Villa accommodations when you are booking.

Room Tip: You want a view out toward the ocean, if possible. And in March to May, you want to see the Flower F...

Nice facility and convenient craft brewery/restaurant just across the parking lot. Enjoyed evening soaks in the outdoor hot tub which wasn't crowded on a Thursday or Friday night. Beware the time share pitch potential...the vultures were starting to line up on Saturday as we checked out.

We stayed a week and since we first got there till we left everyone was super friendly, fulfill our every need. Although the kids pools was close, the adult pools was great, lots of space for swimming, great atmosphere and music.(sunset by the pool are a must) The rooms were very comfortable, fully equipped kitchen, 2 bedroom and a sofa-bed, tv with lots of channels, fireplace and balcony. Great location, Carlsbad its a beautiful town, totally recommend going, great places to eat, close greatly equipped supermarket (shuttle available for going to strategic points in carlsbad, including supermarkets) and beautiful views.

Room Tip: Rooms with ocean view are great, its a magnificent feeling to wake-up with that breathtaking view an...

We did an RCI exchange using leftover canceled Wyndham points. We had never stayed in this group’s timeshares so we weren’t sure what to expect. Other than the outdated décor of the unit and the really slow/restrictive business center, we enjoyed our stay in unit 194 of the D building. The activity guide is full with both adult and kid activities. In fact, Sun – Tues there is a cocktail time (free) each afternoon or evening. After that they switched to non-cocktail oriented snacks (small charge). Each evening at 8pm there is an free in-room movie that they broadcast on channel 3 that is PG or PG13. Saturday is S’mores for a small charge. The Thursday Coffee Klatch serves free coffee & donuts (no tea) to show how the updated units will look.

Our unit was a one bedroom with one bath but two sinks. Bed & pillows were quite comfortable and the living space was big, but I would hate to put 4 adults in it as there was a couch and one side chair. The kitchen was long in the tooth – blond laminated cabinets but granite counters. I’m not sure if they plan on updating the cabinets or just fix the peeling ones. The updated model still had blond laminate cabinets. All the furniture is blond but this is changing to a darker wood as they update the units (C building was being done when we were there). Some items are being replaced while others are being refinished. They will also update the carpet and dishes. Kitchen seemed to have the standard timeshare equipment. My only complaint is the salt/pepper grinder was way too course a grind. Luckily I packed one of those little salt/pepper shakers that Wyndham/Diamond provide.

Outside area is nicely landscaped with the adult pool/hot tub looking out to the ocean. The kid’s pool also has a hot tub. The pool area has a slide, splash pad, etc. along with a playground area. The gas grills also are in this area. There is an activity center as well as an arcade room. Being that this resort is across the street from Legoland and the great kid’s pool, expect lots of little ones especially on the weekends or in the summer.

The fitness center is well equipped with 3 treadmills, 2 elipticals, two bikes (one of each type) as well as some machines. There are also free weights, medicine balls, mats and a big ball. The dry sauna is in this area as well as the massage area.

We didn’t eat out in the area as the Costco is quite close and we made several meals from the free snacks. One day we took the train into San Diego (close but far enough away you don’t get the noise) for a whale watch and tour the Midway. We liked the location of this resort – close to outlet shopping, Costco and the train, but not in the heart of Carlsbad to get all the noise from trains and people. Too bad we were too early for the flowers, they were being planted.

After reading some of the reviews on TripAdvisor I must say there is a fee ($16+tax/day) that covers parking, business center, etc. The computers in the business center are terrible which explains why I was the only one there. I could read my email but couldn’t reply, read my local paper and navigate around. Their restrictive software was so restrictive you couldn’t do much. I don’t know how the room connection was as I don’t travel with a computer. I complained at checkout and they cut the daily free in half. As for the fitness center, it is not open 24/7 but from 5am to midnight.

Room Tip: C building has coast view, D building they call 'garden' but I call it street side.

Green Features: If they want to conserve energy they should make sure the door to the outside fits properly. There are gaps all around the door.

We've stayed here 3 times now. First time in the suites, and I highly recommend it! Love the close proximity to Legoland. Love the heated pool in January! Even got a little sunburn. Great service. Only one complaint is the push to sign up for their timeshare. It wasn't horrible though. I told the lady I wasn't interested and there was no more pressure. I just like to go on vacation and not be bugged. I will say, I'll go back to pacific grand palisades again and again!
