We stayed here using our timeshare points (booked about 8 months in advance) for our Spring Break. We had a few blips upon arrival: No blanket or comforter for the pull-out bed, no 'welcome binder' in our room, room wasn't ready upon arrival, etc. In our confirmation email, it said check in was at 3pm, but later reading at the hotel, it said if you are staying using points/exchange program, check-in isn't until 5pm. So if the confirmation email was correct, they were running late having rooms ready...if the printed material upon arrival was correct, we were early. :-) However, right after leaving to go eat dinner and wait for the room to be ready, we got a call that our room was actually ready, so there might have been a little misunderstanding. Nonetheless, once those kinks were worked out, we had an excellent stay! I have never, in all the years of traveling, had such excellent service! A couple of times they'd stop by just to see if we needed anything. Whenever we did- everyone was always pleasant and smiling.
One tip might be to call ahead of time and see if you can request where you want your room (at least for those using timeshare points). We were staying in a one bedroom villa, and I called a couple of days before arrival to see if we could get a coastal view. I was informed that they assign rooms the night before (or at least on a Friday, if checking in on a Saturday like we were) and they would do the best they could to accommodate our request. We arrived into our room and had a great view! The flower fields were only just beginning to bloom, but we could see the ocean and beautiful landscaping of the hotel grounds. We would sit out there on the balcony every morning to eat breakfast and watch the birds. We also had a fireplace, which was a nice surprise that we enjoyed when it got a little chilly. (I think only certain rooms have those though.) Most of the time, the weather and air was so nice, we shut off the A/C or heat and just let the outside air come in.
Parking is located under the hotel which we didn't know about before-hand, so thought I'd let you know. I am not sure if our large SUV would fit under there, so I'm glad we brought a different vehicle. (Although I did see several large vehicles in there, so it might not be an issue at all.) There are luggage carts...if people remember to bring them back to the garage, which are very helpful. Never had a problem finding a place to park down there.
The hotel sits on top of the hill, right near Lego-land. We never heard any noise or anything like that though. There are several nice walking paths right in front of the hotel and surrounding Lego-land. Plenty of restaurants and the outlet mall is nearby. The full kitchen was very well-stocked- we never lacked for anything! Often we cooked our breakfasts and some dinners there. The bathroom lay-out, at least for our room, was a little odd. There were two showers and one toilet. One was clear and one had a curtain...so you couldn't have privacy and two people showering at the same time, so I am not sure what the point is with that. The only thing I didn't like AT ALL, was that sliding door in the bathroom... It didn't shut properly and the space between the door and wall left very little room for privacy for those staying in the bedroom. (Maintenance did come by once and asked if anything needed to be done, and we forgot to ask them about fixing that.) Perhaps we were in an ADA room and not all rooms are set up like that- not sure.
Some have mentioned the furniture... I agree that the material choice (as least for the living room furniture) was poor- it doesn't wash well, but we didn't have any issues. I would suggest, if possible, that they have one more chair in the living room. For a regular sized family (of 4), only the 3 of us could sit there together at the same time. As far as the bed- my husband said it was fine, but I have a pretty sensitive back so I woke up sore every day. The pull-out bed sufficed for the kids. I am not sure what people are meaning by "outdated" as I didn't see that at all in our room. Perhaps they have updated some of the hotel and still working on the rest? Ours was fine. I also didn't pay too much attention to the TV because...well, we don't vacation to watch TV. The WIFI was pretty spotty though... (I use it to look up restaurants, things to do, etc.)
Back to restaurants- The Karl Strauss Brewery (and restaurant) was EXCELLENT and easy walking distance. We both had delivery and eat-in service and the food quality was really good. The only drawback was that they didn't have any discounts which I thought was unusual, especially staying in the hotel right there. Nevertheless, it was very good.
There were a lot of activities available for varying ages to do scheduled that week. We didn't do any because we went to the beach and mostly did outdoor stuff while there... If you are flying and don't have a rental car, there is plenty to do right there. For instance, the week we stayed- they had a trip to Hollywood and a trip to San Diego going on. Plenty of cool craft activities for the kids too. Oh, almost forgot- they also had a small game room for the kids. Ours had a good time down there when they weren't swimming in the kids/family pool. :-)
We had no problems with towel replacements, cleanliness, etc... They came by twice to ask if we needed anything and to empty our the garbage. They also came an additional time to clean, and replaced towels without us even asking. So I am thinking these reviews are very important to them and they acted quickly with any complaints. Also, we only got one call to ask if we wanted to do the timeshare talk thing (mainly to let us know more about the resort), but we declined and they were never pushy about it. Again, we have never had better service in a timeshare!
