We stayed here using our timeshare points (booked about 8 months in advance) for our Spring Break. We had a few blips upon arrival: No blanket or comforter for the pull-out bed, no 'welcome binder' in our room, room wasn't ready upon arrival, etc. In our confirmation email, it said check in was at 3pm, but later reading at the hotel, it said if you are staying using points/exchange program, check-in isn't until 5pm. So if the confirmation email was correct, they were running late having rooms ready...if the printed material upon arrival was correct, we were early. :-) However, right after leaving to go eat dinner and wait for the room to be ready, we got a call that our room was actually ready, so there might have been a little misunderstanding. Nonetheless, once those kinks were worked out, we had an excellent stay! I have never, in all the years of traveling, had such excellent service! A couple of times they'd stop by just to see if we needed anything. Whenever we did- everyone was always pleasant and smiling.

One tip might be to call ahead of time and see if you can request where you want your room (at least for those using timeshare points). We were staying in a one bedroom villa, and I called a couple of days before arrival to see if we could get a coastal view. I was informed that they assign rooms the night before (or at least on a Friday, if checking in on a Saturday like we were) and they would do the best they could to accommodate our request. We arrived into our room and had a great view! The flower fields were only just beginning to bloom, but we could see the ocean and beautiful landscaping of the hotel grounds. We would sit out there on the balcony every morning to eat breakfast and watch the birds. We also had a fireplace, which was a nice surprise that we enjoyed when it got a little chilly. (I think only certain rooms have those though.) Most of the time, the weather and air was so nice, we shut off the A/C or heat and just let the outside air come in.

Parking is located under the hotel which we didn't know about before-hand, so thought I'd let you know. I am not sure if our large SUV would fit under there, so I'm glad we brought a different vehicle. (Although I did see several large vehicles in there, so it might not be an issue at all.) There are luggage carts...if people remember to bring them back to the garage, which are very helpful. Never had a problem finding a place to park down there.

The hotel sits on top of the hill, right near Lego-land. We never heard any noise or anything like that though. There are several nice walking paths right in front of the hotel and surrounding Lego-land. Plenty of restaurants and the outlet mall is nearby. The full kitchen was very well-stocked- we never lacked for anything! Often we cooked our breakfasts and some dinners there. The bathroom lay-out, at least for our room, was a little odd. There were two showers and one toilet. One was clear and one had a curtain...so you couldn't have privacy and two people showering at the same time, so I am not sure what the point is with that. The only thing I didn't like AT ALL, was that sliding door in the bathroom... It didn't shut properly and the space between the door and wall left very little room for privacy for those staying in the bedroom. (Maintenance did come by once and asked if anything needed to be done, and we forgot to ask them about fixing that.) Perhaps we were in an ADA room and not all rooms are set up like that- not sure.

Some have mentioned the furniture... I agree that the material choice (as least for the living room furniture) was poor- it doesn't wash well, but we didn't have any issues. I would suggest, if possible, that they have one more chair in the living room. For a regular sized family (of 4), only the 3 of us could sit there together at the same time. As far as the bed- my husband said it was fine, but I have a pretty sensitive back so I woke up sore every day. The pull-out bed sufficed for the kids. I am not sure what people are meaning by "outdated" as I didn't see that at all in our room. Perhaps they have updated some of the hotel and still working on the rest? Ours was fine. I also didn't pay too much attention to the TV because...well, we don't vacation to watch TV. The WIFI was pretty spotty though... (I use it to look up restaurants, things to do, etc.)

Back to restaurants- The Karl Strauss Brewery (and restaurant) was EXCELLENT and easy walking distance. We both had delivery and eat-in service and the food quality was really good. The only drawback was that they didn't have any discounts which I thought was unusual, especially staying in the hotel right there. Nevertheless, it was very good.

There were a lot of activities available for varying ages to do scheduled that week. We didn't do any because we went to the beach and mostly did outdoor stuff while there... If you are flying and don't have a rental car, there is plenty to do right there. For instance, the week we stayed- they had a trip to Hollywood and a trip to San Diego going on. Plenty of cool craft activities for the kids too. Oh, almost forgot- they also had a small game room for the kids. Ours had a good time down there when they weren't swimming in the kids/family pool. :-)

We had no problems with towel replacements, cleanliness, etc... They came by twice to ask if we needed anything and to empty our the garbage. They also came an additional time to clean, and replaced towels without us even asking. So I am thinking these reviews are very important to them and they acted quickly with any complaints. Also, we only got one call to ask if we wanted to do the timeshare talk thing (mainly to let us know more about the resort), but we declined and they were never pushy about it. Again, we have never had better service in a timeshare!

Room Tip: We were on the 3rd floor, Villa C area (directly facing the ocean) in a one bedroom villa. This was...

We stayed at Grand Pacific Palisades after a "special offer" to Hilton Rewards members. We were told that we were receiving deep discounts on the room rates. But when we got to the facility, we realized that our discounted $250/night rate was exorbitant for the value.

The Room: outdated, desperately in need of a makeover. No HD, poor broadcast reception. Our room "with an ocean view" consisted of a shallow patio overlooking the highway. If you push out over the ledge and crane your neck to the right, you could see the ocean. Kind of.

The Staff: vacant and apathetic. No one seemed to know what they were doing. It took us three different phone calls to find out check-out time. No one seemed to know the answer, and each time we were transferred to someone's voicemail.

The Hilton sales team: all of these amazing features were provided, with the stipulation that we would attend a 90-minute timeshare presentation. From the get, we let the sales person know that we would not be signing anything on that day; that any decision we might make would require 24-hours to mull it over. She was very amenable to this and proceeded to show us the property. We ended up being quite interested in the investment. And the sales person started closing us hard, demanding that we could only get "added incentives" if we signed right then. I reminded her that we would not be signing anything day-of. The sales person's warmth rapidly turned frigid. We were then presented to a woman who could only be a manager. She was confrontational to the point of rude. These interactions made our decision simple, we won't do business with them.

Now for the good.

Location: the property is in a great spot, adjacent to the Flower Fields. A quick jog, and you're taking in some spectacular sights. Also, there is a Starbucks, as well as a couple interesting food options. Also, downtown Carlsbad is an easy 10-minute drive away. You don't ned to get on the highway.

The Pool: gorgeous, heated pool, complete with swim lanes for those of us that enjoy vacation exercise.

Carlsbad is a great town to explore, and the weather was incredible. We look forward to visiting again. That said, we will never again stay at the Grand Pacific Palisades.

Great Hotel. Convient location to stores nearby. Easy access to Legoland, which was walking distance. Discounts on tickets for staying with them. The only thing that i could ding them on was some of their equipment was not working properly. The pool the kids loved also it had a heater, which was awesome since we were there in February 2014. Gym was nice had everything you needed to get a decent work out in. They had 2 outdoor fireplaces one adult and one for anyone. They had 6 outdoor BBQ's but 1 out of the 3 that i tried only worked. The customer service there was awesome. Overall a great experience would recommend to friends and family.

Room Tip: If you want a good room that sleeps plenty for a big family. I would recommend the suite with a kitc...

After having stayed at the Carlsbad Seapointe Resort in Carlsbad twice I expected it's sister property to be of similar quality and service. Unfortunately, that is NOT true. The rooms were very outdated and dark with a balcony view of the parking lot. Activities taking place during the Christmas holiday were ok, but nothing great. As a matter of fact, the smores night never took place and my kids were extremely disappointed. The housekeeping was not up to par either. I had to keep calling to replace towels and coffee packets. Since we had stayed 10 nights I expected that the bathrooms would've been cleaned more often. I don't need new sheets and towels everyday of course since I don't do that at home either, but bathrooms need to be clean! The one thing we did enjoy though was the pool area which was very nice and clean and plenty of towels. The outdoor activities were plentiful for the kids (basketball court, splash park, etc.) and the weather was spectacular for the most part that entire week. I would prefer going to back to the Carlsbad Seapointe Resort on my next visit which has convenient access the beach across the street.

Stayed there for a trip to Legoland, which is a short walk just across the street. Hotel is very nice, well kept, great service. Room was clean and well-furnished, with a nice balcony. Family pool and play area was very well-liked by the kids, nicely equipped fitness area. There is currently a big push for time-shares that was a little distracting with how often it was mentioned. Concierge was very helpful. Highly recommend.

Planned a long weekend with the family to go to Legoland. Upon arrival at the Grand Pacific Palisades, I was welcomed and treated very well. Service was outstanding, everyone was friendly and accommodating. Shuttle service was great. Room was fantastic - attention to so many details that made everything convenient. The grounds and facilities are so impressive - views, fireplaces, kids pool + water park, playground, lap pool, multiple jacuzzis, fireplaces located throughout, views of the ocean, solid restaurant on the resort...we can't wait to come back.

Room Tip: We had a deluxe double double queen view - awesome, especially if you have kids.
