We stayed at the Carmel garden Inn last week during the concours (August 2014). We loved staying at the Inn because it reminds us of everything that is beautiful about Carmel. From the beautiful gardens surrounding the property to the all of the friendly staff. We were pretty busy with all the events of the week and it was wonderful to stop by for the wine and cheese in the afternoon and of course starting our day with such a healthy and delicious breakfast. On Friday I had the day to myself and Julian recommended some wonderful stores for shopping: the Mole Hole and the Pacific Rim. We had a wonderful time and look forward to our visit next year!

Room Tip: The garden rooms are lovely!

I stayed here with my husband and 15 yr old son. The location is fine for restaurants and Ocean Ave where the main shops are. We were given room 6 (Hyacinth). It was just lovely. The main bed was enormous and so comfy. Our son had a sofa bed which was a bit lumpy but there was plenty of extra bedding that we used to pad it out a bit. he slept well. There was a small dining area inside too, with coffee making facilities. Bring your own tea ( but that's a given when travelling in the USA). The private outside patio garden was a lovely bonus. We weren't there long enough to make the most of it.
Breakfast was good. Tea, coffee, juice, granola, yoghurt, fruit and the hot freshly made fruit or cheese scones made by Mary. If you are lucky the owner may even tell you the directions to the deep dark forest where the cabin people live. We found it. Wow!
We felt very welcome and would definitely stay here again.

Thank you so very much for your review and kind comments. We all love to create in the kitchen and to have you appreciate our food is special to say the least. We agree with you about the private gated patios...a real advantage to be able to leave your room door open and enjoy opening it up to such a large garden area yet private. Finally you bring a smile to my face with your words " If you are lucky the owner may even tell you the directions to the deep dark forest where the cabin people live". My deep gratitude for making us all (especially me) happy reading your review. Julian and us all.

The innkeepers at the Carmel Garden Inn are truly the treasure of this very special place. This past trip we were staying with friends out of town but walked by just to say hello. I know that the innkeepers had hundreds of visitors since our last trip however they remembered us clearly and we shared a warm and happy conversation. They offered our puppies water and even offered to make dinner reservations for us for that evening. Even though we were not staying with them this trip, The team of innkeepers here always go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The innkeepers pleasant, friendly, outgoing nature, not to mention the incredibly delicious rosemary shortbread cookies and the homemade granola for breakfast, make this one of the treasures of Carmel by the sea. When you visit here, you must tossyour diet to the wind and enjoy both of these delightful treats. The rooms here are spacious and cozy with several of them having a beautiful large private patio perfect for your furry friends. We cannot wait until our next trip to Carmel to once again stay at the delightful Carmel Garden Inn.

Your words bring so very much happiness to our team. I have read them to all of us, including the housekeeping staff. A large part of our business depends upon all of us really enjoying being here at the Inn and taking special care of our guests. For you to reciprocate with this praise and appreciation is more than we could have asked for. Thank you!! Julian.

Rooms are a bit odd with knotty pine walls and a mish-mash of furntiture. But they are large enough with a large tv. Overall, the setting felt more like a motel than a b&b (albet with a lot more potted plants than your typical motel). Toilet was not fully functoning. The room also lacked proper ventillation and we had to sleep with the (unscreened) door open to get enough fresh, cool air in the room to get to sleep. Breakfast was very poor. Some hard boiled eggs, limited dry cereal selection, and yogurt. Staff was nice enough. Location was decent but not great as it was a few blocks outside the shopping/restaurant core.

One of the really good and fundamental advantages of tripadvisor.com is the ability for anyone in the world to freely express their likes and dislikes. Hopefully, if used properly, tripadvisor.com can be a guide to aiding folks in locating places to stay using the common threads of reviewers who have similar expectations. While we regret that so very many aspects of our Inn and your stay with us not only did not meet with your expectations but were clearly not to your liking, we nevertheless applaud your review and hope that those who read it will either agree with you and search for another Inn or disagree with you and stay with us. Thank you for filtering for us. Julian

We stayed there 3 night and really enjoyed it! We knew the service would be great after the phonecall to make the reservation. Julian is so nice and pleasant to talk to! We felt welcome right away, we had one of the smaler rooms, but it was cozy and clean. There is also a garden where you can sit and enjoy the nice flowers and quiet. And it is a short walk to the main streets, no need to use the car for dinner :-)
We enjoyed nice homecocked breakfast every morning-so good! And a nice atmosphere among the tables there. Small talk with the other guests and the staff, got good advices on what to do and see :)The staff is very nice, helpfull and friendly. Would go there again if we go back to Carmel.
Thank you so much!

When we purchased the Inn in March 2013, our goal was to create an atmosphere of charm, coziness, quiet and fun, lots of good food and wine, a bistro like dining room conducive to guests chatting with each other and us, and generally provide an 'experience', not just a good place to stay. Your comments and kind words reflect how well we have achieved these goals. Thank you so very much. Your review is greatly appreciated and valued by all of here at the Inn, Julian

From the phone call making the reservation right on through the stay, this was a great experience. Julian and his team are warm, fun, proud, and super service oriented. The room was nicely appointed, and the bed was a traveler's welcome, offering a wonderful night's sleep. The food both in the morning and at the afternoon "wine hour" was yummy -- and Susan's home-made granola is as good as advertised. I would definitely stay there again.

An honor for us to have your comments indeed! Thank you. Our team is so very fortunate to have your review, especially now, in the midst of summer and our busiest season. We get caught up in the motions and forget how fine our guests are; I try to have all our staff read the reviews but with yours, I actually read it to them all. We look forward to your return, Susan made 10 lbs of Granola just four days ago and is making more this afternoon...that is appreciation beyond expectations! Julian and us all

From the moment we arrived and were warmly greeted to the charming and comfortable rooms, the dog friendly atmosphere, the private patio for tea or the afternoon wine and cheese, the nice breakfast with its homemade touches, the lovely flowers and helpful staff, we couldn't have asked for a nicer experience. I have stayed in Carmel multiple times at different places - the Carmel Garden Inn just moved to #1.

Room Tip: The mini suites with private patios are great for dogs and people. The Rosemary room was on one end...
