“Overall, a good choice for Carmel”
Reviewed 3 July 2011

Reading the reviews here, it can be hard to gauge whether Tickle Pink is good or not. Let me try to provide some balance.

There are some aspects you might quibble about. The decor's not to everyone's taste, perhaps being a bit frilly in places. But money has been invested in it - it's not terrible or shabby. From the back, the room entrances are like a motel courtyard. The Inn is close to a couple of other properties, including the Hyatt, though you could say that provides extra amenities nearby. It's quite close to highway 1 and some of the lower rooms could suffer from a little traffic noise. Service can be a little patchy. The wine at the wine and cheese get-together is all one label and only passable.

On the other hand, once you are in your room and looking out, the views are spectacular. If you go for one of the higher rooms, the view's even better and you're well away from any road noise. You can in fact hear the crash of the sea. Many rooms have a fireplace, and with the fire going stepping out on your balcony on a fine day or under a starlit sky is wonderful. Our room was a generous size, too, and everything was clean and reasonably well cared for. We loved being there.

Overall, Tickle Pink is a good choice for accommodation close to Carmel. Ignore what's behind you, look out from your balcony for the whales and seals, and with a crackling fire going it's hard to beat.

Room Tip: Go for the top floor. No 14 has the largest balcoy

30 years ago on June 16th we stayed at The Highlands Inn in Carmel. We were planning to go back to celebrate our 30th anniversary there, but we learned that it has become a Hyatt property and doesn't have the same "character" of tartan plaid and a very welcoming feel as it did in 1981. So on Trip Advisor I read about Tickle Pink Inn next door to the Hyatt property and the reviews were amazing! I am so happy that we decided to stay there for part of our trip down the California coast celebrating our anniversary. What an amazing place! As so many other reviewers have stated, the bed and linens are wonderful and so comfortable. The service is outstanding and the amenities are great. The late afternoon wine and cheese get together was so enjoyable and we looked forward to that time each day. The breakfast is also delicious. My husband brought breakfast to our room each morning and we sat and watched the seagull who visited us each time along with enjoying the view of the ocean. We named the seagull "Pinky" after the Inn. We were provided with Duraflame logs plus real wood for the fireplace and lit a fire each night. Being able to check out old, classic movies as well as newer ones is a nice touch. We enjoyed listening to the waves as we watched old movies. The only downside had nothing to do with the hotel: the weather was gray and foggy while we were there and it would have been better with a little sunshine--maybe next time! We definitely will return to what is now one of our all-time favorite places!

Room Tip: Ask for one upstairs

We loved this hotel! It sits on the hillside overlooking the rocky coast of the Pacific. The rooms, service, and views were amazing! We called at the last minute and got the last room available. It only had a partial view from the room, but the private deck with comfortable deck chairs had a great view. A bottle of champagne with a rose and a box of chocolates were delivered to our room soon after checking in. There are robes and slippers in every room, free classic DVDs to borrow, and free water. Every evening there is a wine and cheese gathering for guests. The front desk made a dinner reservation for us at a nearby restaurant, Pacific's Edge, with a panoramic Pacific view, and wonderful food. A hearty breakfast is provided, which you can have delivered to your room free of charge if so desired. We highly recommend this hotel for couples celebrating anything!

Room Tip: Ask for a sunset view room.

We chose Tickle Pink Inn because of its location near the high cliffs of Highland Drive just south of Carmel. It was an excellent location and even though we had 2 days of complete rain-out, room 9 featured great views and the sea gull's visited us every morning on the railing!

The Inn was doing some renovations so it was not as quiet as we had liked, but we did enjoy the friendly staff, and we just ordered room service since the closest restaurant required driving. Tickle Pink Inn has a great location and the views were spectacular!

When we complained about the noise upstairs, they were accomodating on the check out charges, but I would recommend to them that if they are doing renovations, then don't rent out the room directly below. We were tired from a business trip and the noise was annoying.

The beds are truly special and DirecTV is not usually found in hotels/inns and we enjoyed relaxing while it was raining.

Do drop into Carmel for a walk around, but we found it trite and boring being from NYC. Be warned that check in time is late. Our room was not ready until 4pm and we left SFO that morning so we had to kill some time in Carmel before we could relax.

Their evening wine reception was nice and the complimentary breakfast was exceptional.

Overall, though, it was a pleasant experience. And be sure and take the complimentary slippers with you!

Room Tip: The end units have better views!

This was our second time here-- same room, view of the Pacific Ocean, beds VERY plush - with down comforters, down pillows, sheet quality over 500 thread count Egyptian cotton-- this gives you an idea of the quality. It is pricey-- about $375-425 a night. They serve a nice wine and cheese social for about 1.5 hours every afternoon-- if you want you can take back to your room. The hotel does not offer other things to do like shuffleboard, tennis etc -- just movies your can check out at the counter, in room massage type of stuff-- this place is intended for the serious honeymooner - anniversary getaway. It is in Carnel Highands -- south on highway 1 about 15 minutes from Carmel

Our first trip back to Carmel is many years and we were looking for a wonderful place to stay and we found it at the Tickle Pink Inn. Unbelievable place to stay. The view is spectacular, the rooms are fantastic and the breakfast is so good. When we return to Carmel, the Tickle Pink Inn will be the only place we'll stay.

Do yourself a favor, splurge and stay at the Tickle Pink Inn

My husband and I stayed here two nights after we were married. It absolutely exceeded our expectations! The bed was heavenly with piles of fluffy pillows, and a giant, puffy down comforter. It felt very upscale and quaint, unlike other bed and breakfast inns that I have seen. The views were outstanding! Watching the sunset while sipping our complimentary sparkling cider (we were provided with champagne upon arrival, but since we both don't drink, they promptly gave us a substitution) was breath taking! We enjoyed our breakfast on our balcony every morning as well.

The hot tub was down a little path in a very nice, secluded area, which was very romantic. I think my favorite part of our stay was the complimentary sparkling drinks and cheeses. I am a big cheese lover, and they had a very wide selection. It was a fun activity every evening to enjoy our cheeses and the amazing view on the patio.

We were not too far from shopping and other activities in the area, and just driving around Carmel was enjoyable, as it is so beautiful.
