“Spacious and lovely location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2009

We stayed in two connecting rooms. Really spacious! We had balconies which looked onto Ocean Ave. Breakfast was delivered to our room, but they do not bring tea or coffee. You have to make it yourself in the room, so don't use up all your supplies!! I would have liked some milk instead of the powdered coffee creamer.

Lobos Lodge is spacious (our largest room out of three hotels) and clean. We had a very comfortable king sized bed, fireplace, fridge, TV with DVD and VHS, balcony with a 'peek' of the ocean. It is located close to Carmel Beach and everything is within walking distance (restaurants, shops, beach). The staff was pleasant and efficient. Breakfast was more than generous with juice, fresh fruit, and large, fresh (still warm!) blueberry muffins. A coffee maker is in the room. If staying in town, this would be our first choice!

Booked after reading reviews on Trip Advisor and was not disappointed. Traveling with 2 other couples who also enjoyed the accomodations. Perfect location in Carmel. Parked our car and walked everywhere. Close to shops and restaurants. Comfortable suites with all amenities at an excellent price. Complimentary continental breakfast was also very good and served in your room. No complaints! Highly recommend

This was our first visit to Carmel and we stayed 3 nights in a suite (#37). It was very good...spacious, kinq size bed, very private west facing balcony, and a decent bathroom with separate room for shower/toilet from the sink. It has an outstanding location on the west end of Ocean Avenue, with a short 4 blocks walk to the beach, and pretty much walkable to everywhere else. The Lodge also has ample parking which is a good thing because this little town doesn't offer much parking. For the price, we think the Lodge is a decent value. Carmel was unseasonably very warm during our stay with daytime highs reaching +80ºF, so it was nice that the suite had a large portable fan. The evenings cooled off nicely which made for better sleeps, but if the summer temps are much higher than this then you may want a hotel with air conditioning.

We booked two nights to celebrate our anniversary. My husband was in an accident the day before we were to arrive, and he was hospitalized. I called to cancel the room, and was charged one full night's rate of $205 because it was less than 72 hours notice. I asked if I could have a credit for a future stay, but was refused by the manager. She said the hotel was nearly booked. When I initially made the reservation, I was told that only two rooms were available. I was very disappointed that no consideration was given to our very unfortunate and unavoidable circumstances. We still plan to visit Carmel after my husband's surgery, but will stay someplace else.

The Lobos Lodge has a great position in Carmel, which is a village we found very artificial and somewhat pretentious. I know that many people will find this cute and charming, but you have to know that it is basically a juxtaposition of art (mainly paintings) galleries and a few estate agents. Please be aware that Carmel in is general expensive.
We had problems with the Internet that never found a solution so we only spent one night since we rely on TrpAdvisor.
The service is very good. The room we were given was unfortunately on the lower floor in the cellar and it was a bit dark. Also, the phonic isolation between rooms is insufficient.
All in all, there is no in-between: it is either you will be absolutely fascinated by Carmel and the Lobos Lodge is certainly an excellent choice, excellent value for money, or you will find Carmel too artificial and you won't stay long (our case).

  • Liked — Excellent value for money, good location
  • Disliked — Rooms in the cellar are too dark and no Internet access during our stay in our room (#21)

We booked this hotel directly after reading the good reviews. We were not disappointed. The location within Carmel is excellent just uphill from the beach, 5 minutes walk. However as it is uphill all the way back, the return journey could take double this.

Our room (33) was huge with a sitting area. The bathroom was also very big but could do with a revamp as it was dated, however this would not stop me from booking this hotel again. We also had a small balcony which was a bonus.

The staff were very friendly and informative. The continental breakfast every morning was just enough to start you off for the day.

Carmel is very quaint and picturesque, however it does seem very manmade and almost like being on a film set, alittle too perfect.

We found a wine and cheese shop in Carmel and joined many others to watch the sunset with a bottle of wine - Bliss!!
