We spent a short amount of time at this beach after driving 17 mile drive. We could've sat for hours watching the waves, was just a shame that the fog was in making the view not quite as picturesque as I'm sure it is. Public toilets also spotlessly clean. Great place to spend some time.

Sandy beach perfect for a casual stroll.
Lots of children and dogs playing in the waves, perfect to spot some dolphins swimming out at sea.

This is the smaller and more secluded beach of Carmel. Most people stay along the main beach at the end of Ocean Avenue, but if you walk along the boardwalk on Scenic Rd all the way around the Point, you will come to the lovely and quiet Carmel River beach. It also has parking and bathrooms.

We parked on the southern end of the trail at Monastery Beach and hiked to Carmel River State beach and enjoyed an easy to moderate trail with sweeping views and lots of big rocks to explore. The rocks had pockets where salt crystals had formed and the tide was low so we could see kelp and sea creatures.

Came here before dinner and wished we had come earlier. Beautiful white sands and long beach surrounded by great views. What’s not to like!
