Loved my brief stay at the Edgemere Cottages. Wanted to stay longer but business called. The owners/managers are truly gracious, helpful, upbeat. The architecture and gardens are picturesque but it's primarily its location that will make a stay there a memorable moment in your life: a short walk to beautiful white-sand beaches where you can see a Frank Lloyd Wright masterwork, Pebble Beach Lodge across the Bay...the neighbors' homes are charming, and you can walk to Eastwood's popular restaurant. Carmel-by-the-Sea is a preview of paradise--the Edgemere Cottages will enhance the joy of your visit.

This was the first stop on a central California road trip that started in Salinas, after an Amtrak ride from Washington. The nice little Amtrak shuttle took us to Monterey airport, where we picked up a car-- from Hertz, another 'bait and switch', but all the international car rentals do this--and we had to go with a big one, since we're driving to Santa Barbara and dropping the car off, to go back home on the train. But I digress....

Edgemere Cottages are one block from the beach, about 6 from town, with beautifully-cared for gardens surrounding 20's style cottages, all of which are actually connected by a wall, except the one bedroom, which is located in the owner's house, with a private entrance, bathroom, and courtyard. The weather was perfect for our two-day stay, so we spent a lot of time hanging out in the gardens, collecting vitamin D before returning to Juneuary in coastal Oregon later this week. We stayed in the queen bedroom in the main house on the first night, then the owner was kind enough to move us to Piccadilly for the second.Nice to have a kitchen and sitting room, but the bedroom was really very comfortable. And the breakfasts are fabulous--not too greasy, everything homemade. Owner/hosts Gretchen and Doug are very kind and unobtrusive.

Carmel is a gorgeous place in the sunshine, and we really enjoyed the community theater's production of God of Carnage, which Gretchen clued us in on(she's a volunteer usher), walking to the Carmel Mission on Sunday morning and hearing the choir sing and the bells ring, and catching an organic farmer's market right n the courtyard, walking to Bruno's for groceries(very friendly place), watching the dog and human surfers, admiring the fantastic gardens and respectful stewarding of city trees.

We hope to return to Carmel and Edgemere, with the springers, cause this place has got to be the dog capitol of the US!

Room Tip: The rooms are close together, and noise could be a problem. Fortunately, everybody in the Devon, on...

My husband and I stayed in the Piccadilly Cottage for one night, which is adjacent to the main house. The host, Doug, who was very friendly, greeted us and showed us to our room. It was a lovely cottage with a separate sitting area and kitchenette. The bedroom was very comfy and had a fireplace which we thought was very romantic. We were on our honeymoon driving from San Francisco to San Diego, so we only stayed for one night and never used the fireplace, but it added a nice ambience to the room. Breakfast was in the cozy dining room in the main house and was delicious. We met the hostess, Gretchen, when eating and she took time to chat with us...she was very friendly and really made us feel welcome in her home. Her assistant was also very nice. The Inn is only a block from the beach/ocean which is absolutely gorgeous. Carmel is a beautiful and charming town and we would love to return some day. If we do, we will stay at this B&B again.

My hubby and I are eternal honeymooners, and we are always looking for someplace special to spend our anniversaries. We found the Edgemere Cottages on Trip Advisor, and the pictures do not do it justice! The cottages are quaint, meaning adorable! We stayed in the Devon cottage. There were so many windows to open and let the fresh sea breeze in. The kitchenette was the perfect size, and the separate bathroom was the size of a REAL bathroom, not a hotel bathroom.

The breakfast was far from continental. The first morning, we had asparagus quiche with fresh fruit, cinnamon muffin, fresh juice, and coffee. The second morning was baked french toast, fresh fruit, sausage patties, fresh juice, and coffee. Very delicious and very filling.

The only thing that would give this a five star (in my book) would be an outdoor hot tub and Select Comfort mattresses. We have Select Comfort mattresses at home, and they have spoiled us for any other type of bed!

Hosts Gretchen and Doug made us feel like we were old friends!

Room Tip: The Devon cottage has no next-door neighbors in the sleeping area, but there is in the bathroom.

I really like this place, it is very dog friendly. It is very close to the beach but a long walk to shops/restaurants. It is a great place to stay if you want to stay in Carmel but "off the beaten path".

My Husband, Son, myself, and our "little dog" Ty stayed at Edgemear Cottages. We enjoyed sitting in the garden sipping wine. Looked forward each morning to the "special" quiche we would be served (each one was delicious). Gretchen & Doug (our innkeepers) were lovely and happy to pass on information about the area and all the "dog friendly" places we could enjoy. We look forward to many more visits to Edgemere. We were a group of four and the fact that the Edgemere allows dogs was crucial to our selection. We had the Rosemont Cottage, which was awkward for four adults. When the sofa double bed is down, it is impossible to get into the bathroom without moving furniture. Plus of course, anyone in the bedroom is trooping by whoever sleeps in the living room. It would be very nice for a couple who wanted more space. It is in a quiet neighborhood and the cottages are surrounded by gardens with patios here and there. Gretchen, who grew up there, is knowledgeable and accommodating. She seemed to have a good feel for who in our group was chatty and who just wanted to be quiet. As noted by others, it is just a block from the beach.
