Stayed for a single night as part of a short 7 day driving tour of Highway 1 from San Francisco to Carmel and back. The location of the Normandy Inn is great, being within walking distance of the beach, while still in the main hub of the town where all the cafés, bars and restaurants are.

The hotel looks cute from the outside, and the lobby/ reception has a nice chill out area with comfy chairs around a fireplace. Complimentary beverages ( tea/coffee/cream sherry ) are available to guests in this area.

Our Queen Room was 'ok', although the air conditioner was quite noisy and the TV was at least a decade old, but it worked fine. The off street car parking was also well located and appreciated.

From this point it goes downhill though. Of the 3 staff we interacted with none of them seemed friendly or welcoming, culminating in the checkout where the gentleman managed to conduct the whole process without once making eye contact. When we asked advice on restaurants we were told "For a 'super salad' go to 'Merlots' 2 blocks away". We took the recommendation and had to endure an extremely bland and overpriced chicken Caesars salad and a burger and fries that probably wouldn't have passed a quality check at McDonalds.

But the highlight....or should I say 'lowlight' was the hotel breakfast. Advertised as a 'Deluxe Continental Breakfast' which fell well short of our expectations( no sliced fresh fruit, cold meats or cheese). And being that there were no staff present in the dining room throughout our 'breakfast experience' we thought the sign saying 'Tips Welcome' next to a collection basket was rubbing salt into the wound somewhat.

In summary, liked Carmel, but would be looking for a different place to stay if we return.

After spending a few days at Mission Ranch we decided to move downtown and after a lot of research on TripAdvisor we chose the Normandy Inn. This is a very well located hotel with a nice brisk walk to the beach. We booked a deluxe with fireplace which was nice and not noisy even though it faced out onto Ocean Ave. The complimentary breakfast is very basic so once again we walked the five minutes to the Tuck Box on Dolores which conveniently opens at 07:30.
If you have a car to park then make sure you get there ~12:00 even though check in is at 15;00 as there only a handful of spaces and very very narrow, if you have a big SUV you may have an issue squeezing into one! All in all a very good choice.

Room Tip: 2nd floor away from the road and take a deluxe with fireplace as this is nice even though it is a fi...

Spent three days at the Normandy Inn in Carmel. We have stayed here in the past. I would say that the location is the best part of this inn. The owners of the Normandy have gone to a lot of trouble to provide a nice environment for its guests. The inn has probably been in existence for years and it shows to a degree, but the place is great. Breakfast is provided, the reception staff is wonderful, and as mentioned before, the location cannot be beat. If you are expecting a shiny new room go elsewhere. If you want value and location, this is the place for you.

The Inn is centrally located, only a couple of blocks from the central town area and the beach, and still quiet at night (apart from the occasional noise from a neighbour). Pleasant surroundings, breakfast is good for continental style fare (no paper plates now) and the pool is a great place to enjoy the meal. Rooms are clean and spacious. However on a warm to hot day ventilation in the room is not great - gets stuffy and very warm. Otherwise very cozy. Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: On hot days a room on the ocean side might offer a bit of breeze.

Why would you stay anywhere else when The Normandy Inn has everything that Carmel is all about. You have the very best location for shopping-dining or the beach.
The staff will help in ANY way possible to make your stay enjoyable.Be sure and go to the Highlands Inn for good wine and a beautiful sunset or go to Pebble Beach and have a glass of wine as you look out over the 18th green and Carmel bay.
Do not miss Point Lobo just south of Carmel and take the cypress tree trail.
Travel for 30 miles south for some of the most beautiful views on earth and stop in nepenthe for a 50 mile view down the coast.
In closing ask for Sandra or one of her staff for anything you need and they will take good care of you.

Three days of total relaxation in Carmel are not hard to take. And they were made even more pleasant at the Normandy Inn.
The Inn is convenient to everything, which in this case is stores, restaurants, and the beach.

The public rooms are charming, a mix of antique and modern. The small pool is surrounded by flowers. Breakfast (free) offers a variety of options--all fresh. And our room was very comfortable with all the amenities we needed.
Parking looked as if it might be a problem because the Inn lot is small. However, it's easy and safe to park on the street over night right in front or beside the hotel.

Convenience and charm at a reasonable price. There's a Tiffany store in Carmel, but the Normandy has the real deal!

This hotel had apparently hosted Bing Crosby and Dean Martin back in the 1930s. The facilities do not appear to have been updated since then. It sounded like Fred Astaire was tap dancing above my head as the walls and ceiling are paper thin. Paper plates is what the breakfast is served on in the breakfast area which seats many fewer people than those competing for tables. I could have stabbed someone, but the plastic knife had snapped on my toast.
The hotel is centrally located and parking can be found in the nearby streets.
