We stayed here for two nights because we had heard great things about Carmel and wanted to stay in the village part. The hotel is perfectly fine - nice room, good (included in the cost) cold breakfast. However the location isn't really central, so it was about a ten minute walk to get anywhere worth going and an even longer walk to get down to the beach. They do offer free wireless and put out chocolate covered strawberries when you arrive, which is a nice touch.

Hello and Thank you for your review-happy that you enjoyed the room, breakfast, Free WiFI, and chocolate covered strawberries! We are 3 blocks from the main street of Carmel on a nice quiet residential street. I am sorry that you would have preferred to be closer to the main street but then you risk having noise from the traffic and busy pedestrian streets. Our sister property, Carmel Lodge, is only 2 blocks from Ocean Avenue and has free parking and wifi, as well.

It's nice but probably won't stay here again. First the room...nothing special about the room, balcony overlooking someone's roof, no aircon in the room. Also it's supposed to be pet friendly but they don't offer any goodies (dog biscuit, water bowl, etc.) for dogs. No place to walk dogs other than in the residential area.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. The rooms were featured in Architectural Digest but I know that we can't be the perfect place for every one. Thank you for writing that we are "nice"!

One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. They greeted us with a flower and showed us around the little relaxation garden they have- it has water features and seating areas.
The room had a fire and a huge, amazingly comfortable bed.
There were chocolate covered strawberries waiting in the room for us- a nice touch.
It was within walking distance to anywhere you need to go including the waterfront and restaurants.
The only tiny thing was- we arrived after dark and it was very difficult to find as the sign is not very well lit and is low down- just something to watch out for!
But I would recommend this place to anyone.

Room Tip: We stayed in a deluxe king with a view- it was lovely

I really liked this hotel. It was so lovely. It had great personal touches. The location is perfect. It was very clean. The decor is terrific-inside and out. The bed and linens were So comfy! You can tell it used to be an older motel type place. That's just Carmel. The history adds to the quaintness. They've done a good job with the remodel and renovation. My only complaint is the lower level rooms are loud! You could hear every move made upstairs. (That's been noted before in reviews. Listen to them. I didn't. It's not an exaggeration.) I would stay here again in a heart beat, just upstairs.

Thank you for your kind review! We do our best to minimize any noise from other guests. Luckily, we are on a quiet residential street so our guests don't have street noise to worry about like on the main and other busy streets of Carmel. I love that you found the room "comphy" and "lovely". Thank you and we hope that you can enjoy one of our ocean view rooms next time!

We enjoyed our one night stay in this quaint hotel. We were appreciative of them accepting our golden retriever in such a nice, large room. The hotel is a nice walk up the hill from a busy downtown Carmel. The front desk personnel were very helpful with recommendations on dog friendly restaurants and even a 5 star dog wash facility after exploring the beach. The continental breakfast was also yummy with lots of fresh fruit.

This is such a romantic and tranquil hotel in Carmel. Probably ideal for a couple romantic stay. There is free parking at the hotel and the restaurants and shops are within walking distance. The breakfast buffet is simple but perfect. There is a strong influence from Indonesia as far as the interior and exterior decos are regarded. I loved our room, the small zen type fountain in it and the strawberries with chocolate welcoming us in the room. I also loved the kimono robes provided in the room and actually bought one to take back home. The staff were really welcoming and friendly. I would definitely return to Tradewinds Carmel when back in Carmel.

Thank you so much! Thank you for pointing out that Tradewinds is ideal for a romantic stay. We agree! We love honeymoons and anniversaries! We try to make each and every guest's experience special and memorable from the chocolate covered strawberries and orchids upon arrival to the Meditation Garden where you can put your bamboo sheath with a wish or prayer on it in the fountains. We hope that you can return soon. All the best to you!

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. We absolutely enjoyed our room and zen-like surrounding area of the hotel. We fell in love with great bed and extra large pillows, which were super comfortable especially after long day of sightseeing. Our room had a balcony and we had partial view of ocean and mountains. The area around is very tranquil although only 4-5 short blocks from Ocean Ave where all shops and restaurants located. Staff is very pleasant. Breakfast has exactly what is needed. Will def come back!
