I have to say I was little bit nervous when I made reservations to stay at the Quail Lodge. Not knowing what to expect I called them a few too many times, but they were patient with every called. They assured me that the room that they had assigned me was a wonderful room. My husband and I were celebrating our 44th Wedding Anniversary. Needless to say I wanted everything to be just so special. Well the Quail Lodge exceeded my expectations and I cannot wait to go back. We love our Bartender he been working at the Quail Lodge for 44 years. Thank's everyone for making our anniversary so lovely. We will be back. There was only one small thing I would have excepted was a card acknowledging our anniversary(44 years is along time) along with maybe a small bottle of wine or champagne in our room. But like I said it is a small thing.

A really nice property. I was there for a 2-night birthday trip. Stayed in a suite - VERY roomy. 2 TVs, 2 gas fireplaces, heated floor in the bathroom. Robes available upon request, as are top sheets (European bedding). Didn't find that out until checkout. Very relaxing, close to Carmel-by-the-Sea but far from the hustle of the little town. Definitely a place to relax and enjoy life. I would definitely stay there again.

The redone Quail Lodge is a great base for Carmel and Monterey if you enjoy a little greenery and solitude. It is a short drive to all you want to see and then you can retreat to this oasis. Rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable and the staff helpful. Small complaints -- we had limited drawer storage in our room (#244) and no shower cap to be had. But the setting among trees and along the golf course were lovely. A well maintained putting course is laid out between the buildings. All in all, this is an excellent base at good value for those who love the area attractions but would prefer to end their day on a pillow somewhat removed from the hustle and bustle.

This is my (new) favorite place to stay in the Carmel area. Checked in and added an extra day to our stay just because the place is so lovely and so relaxing. I've gotten tired of the crowds and costs of the town of Carmel and this is the perfect respite! Close enough to pop over to the beach but with enough amenities to make it a destination in itself.

The room - a lovely bright room with huge windows that look out onto our private veranda (with flowers and Adirondack chairs). High ceilings, perfect furnishings, and a huge bath and dressing area. Everything is just right. The grounds are perfectly landscaped with plenty of flowers, huge ponds, wide paths for walking (and of course rolling green golf courses). Staff is friendly and welcoming, parking and internet is free (oh yes, so is breakfast).

Dog friendly - we always stay at dog friendly places. This is the first place that charged a reasonable fee AND gave us gift bags for each dog with really useful items! A water bowl, fleece throw for sleeping, flashlight/poop bag combo, stuffed toy.

Highly, highly recommend!

You know when you walk into a hotel and the beautiful surroundings just make you exhale? Well, that's the feeling I got walking into the reception area of Quail Lodge and Golf Club in Carmel, California. The drive through the Carmel Valley to get there didn't hurt; it has to be one of Northern California's most beautiful areas.
But back to Quail Lodge. It is a low-key oasis set in the valley on a beautiful 18-hole golf course. The main building is two-stories but everything else is built in a very low profile on one level. Given the severe drought conditions I don't know how the grounds still look so green and lush. And there are flowers everywhere.
About the amenities, in addition to the golf course (which seems to do brisk business) there is a nine-hole putting green, bocce ball court, swimming pool, and fitness center. I'm a swimmer, and while I would have been happier with a lap pool, this was the cleanest pool I've ever been in. The water was crystal clear all the way to its nine-foot bottom. The fitness center is divided into three separate, small buildings. One is devoted to cardio, another to weights, and the third is a stretch studio.
The rooms are Fantastic with a capital F! Enormous, our room really was two two rooms--a bedroom and a separate sitting room. There were two large flat screen TVs, and the bedroom had a stone gas fireplace. We arrived in the midst of a heatwave and we had some trouble with our AC, but the staff was diligent in trying to repair it. One technician went as far as leaving a vase of fresh flowers for our inconvenience, definitely a first! The hotel also compensated us for our troubles by comping our dry cleaning bill. If I had one issue with the room, it was the fact that a ceiling fan could have been useful given the tall height of the ceiling. I know it wouldn't have been as aesthetically pleasing, but from a practical point of view it would help circulate the air in the room.
The bathroom was enormous with a separate tub and huge walk-in shower. As a woman I particularly appreciated the tiled bench seat--I shave my legs in the shower and finally had a platform. I can't tell you how many hotel showers I've been in where there's not even a shelf to out a razor on let alone a place to shave your legs!
My husband read in a magazine in the room that the lodge had to make some serious changes as a result of the economic downturn. They undertook a major renovation but to keep costs down, guests are not greets by a bell captain, and there's no concierge. There are no spa services although there's a nearby spa guests are directed to. Guests bring their luggage to their own rooms, which is really no big deal because parking is readily available near the guest rooms. A lovely continental buffet breakfast is served daily with an array of yogurts, juices, fresh fruits, cereals, hard boiled eggs and breads for toasting. Their organic strawberry and raspberry jams are a real treat.
As far as location,Quail Lodge is located in the Carmel Valley but only a short 10 minute drive to all the restaurants and galleries of Carmel-by-the-Sea. We went into town almost every evening to catch the sunset over the Pacific (there's an entrance to the famed 17 Mile Drive right there), and then go to dinner. We can't wait until our travels take us back to the Monterey Peninsula and to the incomparable Quail Lodge.

Room Tip: Fun to be near the bocce court. We walked out and played whenever we could.

We just returned from a two night stay at the Quail Lodge and Resort and while driving home we were already planning a return visit. This gem in the Carmel Valley area was so restorative. Close to Monterey but away from hustle and bustle. Rooms were very clean and comfortable and the putting course was just outside our patio - perfect for a bit of practice with your morning coffee. The continental breakfast was delicious with plenty of carb selections for toasting, organic jams (delicious), yogurts, hard boiled eggs, fruit and coffee. We ate out on the deck each morning.

Our room had two queen beds with big soft white comforters along with an Lshaped window seat with comfy pillows. In room coffee and fridges.

The staff was very friendly and the facility was well maintained except for the squeak of our bathroom door. We took advantage of the 18 hole golf course and Refuge Spa, just a short 2 minute drive from the lodge, where we had amazing massages (Corinne was fabulous).

This is an "away from it all" place. No Starbucks or fast food near by. We did eat at Edgar's which is at the clubhouse and delicious but we also walked to the BBQ place just across the street which had great service and good food too. Besides a couple of places across the street most everything else is a drive away but when you want to get away from it all that is perfect.

Very pet friendly, clean, cozy, accommodating and restful...clearing calendars for a fall visit.

We went to Quail Lodge for a two night stay, with one night booked as a 'stay and play' golf package. The golf was wonderful and the room exceeded expectations. We had a fireplace, a large sofa, a very comfy king sized bed, and a big deck looking out on the course. The 'continental' breakfast was better than most, the staff was cordial, and the overall atmosphere was upscale without being pretentious or uppity. The golf package was very reasonable, given that the rack rate for non-members and non-guests at the course is $150 per round. Our package was less than that for two, including the room. We went on Sunday and that made it less expensive than a weekend booking. When you go, check out the cantina across the street.
