Modern and clean, but lacks character. The hotel was under renovation while we stayed (2 nights) so the pool area was largely out of bounds. Located conveniently close to a small industrial estate with a number of restaurants, a petrol station, large shopping mall and the mission. More of a motel feel than a hotel because it is right off Highway 1 which makes it convenient to travellers on the Pacific coast, but it is away from the atmosphere of the beautiful Carmel downtown area. Carmel and Monterey are only a short drive away though. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the pool area which was nice, although there were drinks and ice machines in the corridor right outside our room which made a lot of noise and disturbed
our sleep. One night there was a very loud argument in the corridor between a couple which must have woken everyone - not something the hotel can be blamed for. On a positive note, the restaurant was good and provided a very good breakfast, and although we didn't visit it in the evenings, it doubles up as a bar and night club.
