“Good value for Carmel”
Reviewed 6 September 2009

This is clearly a renovated older motel/hotel. The rooms are decorated in lime green and blue and have a definite young, hipster feel. The hotel is right off of Highway 1 and very close to two large, upscale shopping malls which is convenient if you want to walk over and get coffee or something in the morning. The room price we got was reasonable for Carmel but the hotel is not close to downtown Carmel. It's a short drive to the tourist areas and the beach but you definitely need a car to get around. The receptionists were friendly and helpful. The bar serves free appetizers in the evening with the purchase of a drink. Free internet access in the lobby. Nice, older pool and two hot tubs - both open fairly late at night. Free parking. Not super luxurious but a nice place to stay for a few nights. The photos posted by travelers are accurate and a good representation.

I thought it was just ok, we stayed in much nicer hotels on our trip for a lesser price, it looked to me like the room needed a paint job but it did say reno's were completed? The reception staff really need to take a course in reception, no one greeted us, no hello, very strange.

We booked on Priceline.com to make a bid of $100/ night or less for a 3-night stay. The place was HORRIBLE - the door would not close unless you slammed your hip into it and did not have a security latch of any sort- the walls are bare except for a mirror on one - the only thing we could smell was bleach - we assume that was caused by their attempt to cover up odors from allowing dogs. The heater blew directly into our faces on the queen -sized bed and there was no way to adjust the flow. We stayed 1 night, checked-out and decided to check into The Embassy Suites even though we knew we couldn't get a refund because we booked at Priceline (which they were very quick to tell us. Please, do yourself a favor and don't be fooled by the pics on their website - It's not a place you want to go to.

Horrible, Disgusting, Hitchcock Film. When I first read this I thought is this person talking about us. In light of the many great comments we get from fair minded, honest people whose feedback we enjoy this makes me wonder. Perhaps that 5 star luxury resort just wasn't delivered. We are not the Four Seasons or Bernardus Lodge. But we are caring, friendly, honest, sincere and what many consider to be one of the best values in this beautiful and popular area. And ladies you can rest assured you will be safe in our rain showers.

Reasonable price. The hotel was nicer then we expected. Convenient to good resturants and shops. We walked to dinner every night. Walked to get coffee and pasties in the morning. They even had a great farmers market on the property behind the hotel.

This is a good value hotel for 1 or 2 nights in Carmel. We stayed 1 night on a trip down the coast on the way to Post Ranch Inn. It was right off coastal highway and wasn't too impressive from the outside but upon entering the patio, it had a warmer feeling. The reception staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and it served our purpose. It is not walking distance to the "main drag" of Carmel but there is as mall with restaurants across the street. We drove into town for dinner and to walk around as one should experience the "charm" of Carmel. We opted for the breakfast package which was well worth it.

We chose this hotel based on others that recommended. Unfortunately, we were passing through Carmel at the time of the big car show at Pebble Beach. Consequently, hotel prices were quite high and accommodation choices were limited.

We purchased the golf package which provides golfing plus cart at Rancho Canada. The golf resort was beautiful, food at the lodge fabulous and inexpensive -- we saved about $50 by booking through the hotel instead of separately. So, for those wanting such a package, it is a good deal.

The double queen bed rooms are quite large -- much more spacious than similar room types at other hotels. Although it is behind a gas station, it wasn't a deterrent and actually made it convenient to get to the shopping area behind us which had great shops and restaurants -- especially for families.

The bathroom doesn't provide much room for your stuff as there is little counter space -- but, it is nice and was clean. Just recommend putting your stuff on the credenza in the bedroom.

We did like their happy hour as they offered complimentary hot and cold appetizers -- one night, it was actually our dinner!

Their internet is free, but they do not support VPN connections.

Parking is free.

Did not eat breakfast there as it was a bit high, especially with kids. But, the Rancho Canada lodge breakfast was very reasonably priced, great food, and authentic cuisine.

The location was good and central to Carmel and Monterrey -- easy to get in and out of, especially to Hwy 1.

If we were to go back, I would definitely consider it -- but, not for the price that we paid. Just know that if you are going during the car show, the hotels really take advantage of the week.

I stayed one night in carmel and I find this hotel very comfortable. The room are big and clean, the bed is one of the best bed in wich I have slept, there is also a huge flat tv with HD channels. In the hall you can find two pc with Internet free. The breakfast is awesome, fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, orange juice...wonderfull!
The staff is very kind, when we arrive the girl at the check in says us if we want to book a restaurant in carmel because at 9 pm they stop to cook...without this advice probably we will have jumped the dinner!
